I think the OP is right.

And I think Lafftur is right too.

Prosperity, and what can I get out of God, preachers are bad and dangerous.

But the OP creates an inordinate amount of negative and/or divisive threads. Hey, OP, how bout a nice uplifting, edifying thread from ya?

If the prosperity gospel is a false gospel, how is it a negative thing to bring attention to it?

Very kind of you to say, Snacks.
Thank you kindly, blessings to you and yours in Jesus name.:):coffee:(y)

Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

Hebrews 7:6-7
6 But he whose descent is not counted from them received tithes of Abraham, and blessed him that had the promises.
7 And without all contradiction the less is blessed of the better.

So what is the problem???

James 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

John 3:27 John answered and said, A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven.

This verse might apply to this thread. And interesting to read previous verses of 1 Kings 3.

1 Kings 3:24 And the king said, Bring me a sword. And they brought a sword before the king. 25 And the king said, Divide the living child in two, and give half to the one, and half to the other.

We all come to Him as we are, but we don't stay the way we are.
You do attempt to create division in the Body of Christ.

Just another trashing and bashing session by ResidentAlien ---

Worth repeating ---your Quote here ---

@shittim has a wonderful heart for God and is one of the more loving people on CC. Your words are better suited for calvinists.
Huh? He falsely accused me of disliking scripture. And i have no idea how calvin comes into this.

Victoria Osteen responded to her critics about her remark. But notice she doesn't really change the essence of anything she said:

" 'While I admit that I could have been more articulate in my remarks, I stand by my point that when we worship God and are obedient to Him we will be better for it,' said Mrs. Osteen in a statement to The Blaze on September 5, 'I did not mean to imply that we don't worship God; that's ridiculous, and only the critics and cynics are interpreting my remarks that way.' "

But that's not what she was being criticized for. The criticism was because she said when we worship God, we don't do it for Him really but for ourselves. She said nothing to walk this back or apologize for it.

1 Corinthians 1:21-24
21 For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.

22 For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom:

23 But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness;

24 But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.

Why would she????

It is 100000% correct.

What do people give to God that He hasn't given them first??????

Go to church because it is good for YOU.

Worship God because it is good for YOU.

Read the bible because it is good for YOU.

Pray to God because it is good for YOU.

Come to Christ because it is good for YOU.

God doesn't need all your silliness.:ROFL::ROFL:

You think you are doing God a favor???:ROFL::ROFL::ROFL::ROFL::ROFL::ROFL::ROFL:

Grandpa, you can't see the problem of someone saying when we worship God we do it for ourselves, not Him? That's the topic.
No. I see no problem with it. Because its ABSOLUTELY TRUE.

God doesn't need anything from you. You need EVERYTHING from God.

What is the problem with that TRUTH?

Why is worshipping pleasing to God? Why is praying pleasing to God? Why is reading the bible pleasing to God? Because it is when God GIVES you the things you don't even know you NEED.

Matthew 6:8 Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.

I imagine comedians in the vein of George Carlin still exist and pick up on these statements like the video and use them to further denigrate Christianity.

Huh? He falsely accused me of disliking scripture. And i have no idea how calvin comes into this.

There are certain people on this board who make vague and noncommittal statements so no matter how you respond they can criticize you and make you look like an idiot. Best to just leave them alone.

What Victoria Ostien said could be taken two ways. We do profit greatly when we surrender all to Jesus (not always materially though). I am willing to give her the benefit of the doubt. It is Joel that concerns me. He is the one who claims to be a pastor.

Wow!
You only do things for others because they need it or as a favor?
How about because you love them or because you just want to?
Romans 12: 1 says presenting ourselves as a luving sacrifice to God is our reasonable service.
The word service has meaning.
