There are different Bibles in English.
Do you perfer Modern Bibles or the King James version?
Modern Bibles use the Alexandrian Text.
King James uses the Textus Receptus (simular to the Greek Majority).
The two choices of text are:
1. The Oldest text (starting in year 200) the Alexandrian Text
2. The most numberous text (starting in the 5th centry) the Greek Majority Text
In short you are either choosing the Oldest text or the text that is found more often (they have found more copies of the Greek Majority Text). Alot of Americans use Modern Bibles such as the NIV or NKJV. Greeks use the Greek Majority Text which is close to the KJV. Which do you use? Would you pick the Oldest, the most copies, or both?

I use the KJV most of the time. I study the Bible in Spanish aswell. I don't think I could suggest anything better than the KJV, not that I think it's the only version.

I use the New King James as I've been made aware it's the correct one.

Since we're on the subject, any idea of any major differences, like I've heard the NIV misses out several verses..

The NLT is the easiest bible to read. I get lost reading the KJV because no one speaks english like that anymore. I also like the NIV but not as much as the NLT.

I was just reading the New Century Version and I was showing to my 14 year old she really like the idea that she could understand what she was reading. In my church we always read the KJV. but, when I am reading at home I choose the NIV. I also have English Standard Version, So I sometimes read that.

Alexandrian manuscripts
shorter ending of the Gospel of Mark, which finishes at Mark 16:8 omitting verses Mark 16:9-20

Read the bible and pray that God will reveal to you the truth. Without faith no one can please God. Pray and read, and OBEY!!

May Jesus bless you.

Wonder why that is, as every scripture is important, I thought.
Mark 16:9-20 doesn't show up in some early Manuscripts.

Also, to the subject of the thread.

Typically NIV.

I am not a catholic, but the apocrypha has two books that I loved reading and still occasionally do, Sirach and Wisdom. Yet few centuries later they were removed as non scriptural, go figure, 7 books in all. Sometimes I cross reference what one version say against another, easy to do with e-sword, side by side but ultimately it's what God is saying or addressing in me that is being spoken. We can all read the same version, same book and chapter and God will highlight different parts to each one of us personally pertaining to where we are at and what He is telling us. Hence the holy spirit guides and teaches us all truths, about ourselves mostly.

My Nab because of its age has these books, I enjoyed them alot, as they spoke much about wisdom, Gods desire for us, and simple advise in ones walk. :)
The advise on choosing a friend was very good. :)

God bless.

I use the KJV it has a different source than modern versions. Modern versions have errors and change the meaning of verses which can affect what we believe.

Daniel 8:12
(12) And an host was given him against the daily sacrifice by reason of transgression, and it cast down the truth to the ground; and it practised, and prospered.

John 17:17
(17) Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.

The word of God has been attacked, changed to mean other things to keep people away from the truth

King James Bible 1611

eh i go with whatever is at hand, im not terribly concerned about which version. Those people saying KJV is the only right would do well to remember the following: King James gave the translators instructions intended to guarantee that the new version would conform to the ecclesiology and reflect the episcopal structure of the Church of England and its beliefs about an ordained clergy. The translation was by 47 scholars, all of whom were members of the Church of England.
