Rev 10:1
And I saw another mighty angel come down from heaven, clothed with a cloud: and a rainbow was upon his head, and his face was as it were the sun, and his feet as pillars of fire:
Rev 10:2
And he had in his hand a little book open: and he set his right foot upon the sea, and his left foot on the earth,

10:1
1) "clothed with a cloud": Ex 16:10 (many), Eze 1:4, Matt 17:5, Luke 21:27, Acts 1:9, Rev 1:7,
2) "rainbow": Eze 1:28, Rev 4:3,
3) "face was at it were the sun": Rev 1:16
4) "feet as pillars of fire": Rev 1:15

10:2
1) the little book is the very same book (title deed to the earth) noted in Rev 5:1-5, 7
2) "set his right foot.....left foot" is a posture of conquest, taking possession of that which was earned.

Possibly the same angel as Rev 7:2-3, 8:5?

So, John ate the title deed to the earth?

Im thinking it was probably a book of prophecy, because when after eating the book, he was told to prophesy again.

Even though this verse gives the impression that this might be Christ Himself, verse 6 discounts that notion: And sware by him that liveth for ever and ever, who created heaven, and the things that therein are, and the earth, and the things that therein are, and the sea, and the things which are therein, that there should be time no longer:

There is only one who lives for ever and ever and who created the universe and that is Christ, the eternal Creator. And since the angel is swearing by Him, this angel cannot be Christ. However he is a "mighty angel".

"For when God made promise to Abraham, because he could swear by no greater, he sware by himself," Hebrews 6:13. It seems that God can swear by himself. I tend to think of this Rev 10 messenger as a picture of Christ.

Indeed this is the root of controversy. I was expecting someone would post this. I will post something later.

Looks like Jesus in Revelation 1, Ezekiel 1, etc.

Problem is, Hebrews will not allow Jesus to be called an angel, that is heresy.

Also, everything (including angels) was created through Jesus and for Jesus.

A curious angel.

Think about the term "Angel of the LORD" in the Old Testament.....

Revelation 10:2 this is the same book that John eats in, 10:10, and therefore not the scroll in chapter 5.

We may be miscommunicating, but it seems to me, that you are equating the little book in chapter 10 with sealed scroll in chapter 5.

He had a little book open in his hand. And he set his right foot on the sea and his left foot on the land, Then the voice which I heard from heaven spoke to me again and said, “Go, take the little book which is open in the hand of the angel who stands on the sea and on the earth.” So I went to the angel and said to him, “Give me the little book.” And he said to me, “Take and eat it; and it will make your stomach bitter, but it will be as sweet as honey in your mouth.”

Actually I'm going to follow up on some commentaries tomorrow regarding a couple of questions we all have brought up on this thread. Frankly I am not 100% convinced one way or another......

Im just speculating, that lttle book could be the things that the seven thunders said, or possibly a book of prophecy. But thats all just speculation

Some good thoughts. The redoubtable Chuck Missler brought up the point that it may be that this scroll is the very same as that of Revelation 5. Because of the conquest posture of the angel among other things. I posted the audio link if you care to give it a listen.

Christ is never called an angel or a mighty angel in the New Testament. Instead we read that God says to all the angels "Let all the angels of God worship Him", since all the fulness of the Godhead dwells in Christ bodily.
