The next problem is, that it is combined in pentecostal and charismatic circles with the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Which excludes all believers which are not following the expieriences with the baptism of they Holy Spirit.
There's only one real problem with tongues as it's practiced today. The gift of tongues is the gift of speaking in unknown human languages. People today don't speak unknown human languages but made up gibberish. No gift required, anyone can do it. It's foreign to the true gift of tongues. The fact that it's been accepted by so many, and continues, is a sad testament to the level of ignorance in the body of Christ.
problem related to praying in tongues

Matthew 6:6
But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

Matt 26:36
Then Jesus came with them to a garden called Gethsemane, and he said to his disciples: "Sit down here while I go and pray yonder."

Praying like in Pentecostal / Charismatic Churches violates the teaching of Jesus above.
Here's something that needd to be corrected:
1. Putting Pentecostals & Charismatics in the same group is a judgment call. They are hardly anything alike.
2. Saying all Pentecostals & Charismatics together are the same is also a judgment call. All it takes is one person who does it right to prove it.
3. Everyone knows none of you have went to all of these churches to gather evidence.

Finding one church that does it wrong is no reason to judge them all. There's not a single denomination in the world who has all their churches doing everything right. I myself wouldn't dare speculate who is/isn't.

Which of you three have posted/believed everything "correct"? Can you prove it?

As you judge them, you yourselves will be judged as you judged. I would suggest repentance on this matter. I'm not mad at anyone, to me there's no way these statements can be biblically true.

Matt 7:1“Do not judge, or you will be judged. 2For with the same judgment you pronounce, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. 3Why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but fail to notice the beam in your own eye? 4How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ while there is still a beam in your own eye? 5You hypocrite! First take the beam out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.

Luke 6:37“Judge not, and you will not be judged; condemn not, and you will not be condemned; forgive, and you will be forgiven;

I think you may find most of the people you are quoting actually WERE charismatics or pentecostal. I was.

And that, ladies and gents, means that that personal experience was meant for a world wide condemnation of all churches everywhere where any person who spoke in tongues should ever do so even if doing so silently as per Paul's instructions because we all know that if even one church or person does it wrong, everyone everywhere should just shut up because one place did it wrong

I mean let's not correct as Paul did. No no! Let's just condemn and junk whatever it is that offends us for whatever reason

so much better that way
That is a lie from the pit of hell, twisting words in such a hellish manner. If you cant read my simple statement and understand it, you by no means can understamd scripture

I'll never understand why people take the time to learn and post things, and then do it in such a way as to ensure it's rejection. Perhaps the only thing worse is to have someone attempt to help you and reject that as well.
I've found both to be common online. Perhaps people aren't as humble and as spiritually mature as they think.
So true, this poster has had multiple monikers over many years, which is fine, but your insight is impeccable as usual! :)

What do you mean by "historical context of the church"?

When a person speaks in tongues he does not know what he is saying (1 Cor 14:2). Since generally speaking, people who meet together all speak the same language, nobody else will understand it either, which is why when tongues is spoken aloud in the church, it must be interpreted so the church will be edified (1 Cor 14:5).
Sir if I take the time will you have an open mind?

I have looked at this from both sides, in depth, and I think that what I stated initially stands.

Do you think tongues is a non earthly language?

They can engage with honesty and intellect. I will not tolerate stupidity.
Stupidity is not an intellectual issue it is a moral issue.

Lol. One's impeccable is another's...how was it so delicately stated..."you're wrong". Alas, God humbles us all.

You are a world class cessationist. I understood you just fine. I have never seen one positive comment from you regarding the spiritual gifts.

From the pit of hell? How dramatic. Absurd

Cessationists are bullies, at least in this forum, and seem to believe if you dare to question or detract from what they say, you become a liar and other and various non Christian.

There is nothing more un-Christian then the way loco addressed me while saying he would like to talk with honesty and integrity.

You are not sounding very authentic IMO.

Wouldn't speaking in tongues be annoying and off-putting, for people in the congregation who don't do it?!
Really off putting for people in a forum who cannot hear it, so my guess would be you betcha.

She uses capitals now most of the time so maybe a step in the right direction or maybe not. :giggle::unsure:
Lovely to be able to discuss a person in a thread from behind your pc or laptop. Does it make you feel big?

All you anti tongues or gifts in general people seem to enjoy mocking and seem to believe that by doing this, people will run off.

I'm not sure that is Christian behavior though.

You have no idea about me. You have never paid attention to what i have written here. You have only ever emposed your emotions upon my words.

I don't pay much attention to you; that is true. You attack people who disagree with you and create emotional outbursts in your replies when someone has the nerve to disagree with you. So I basically just avoid you because of your inability to respond when you disagree in a civil manner.

Whatever....that is your problem and not mine. I disagree with your comment. You invoke a personal experience. I've had plenty with people who abuse the gifts but that is not a legit reason to trash those who speak in tongues even if they are wrong.

Anyway, since you will never see anything from any point of view but your own, I'll just relieve you of the stress and put you back on ignore.

Spot on.

Those in disagreement don't see it that way of course. These threads on 'tongues' do get nasty and that is mostly because of the mockery and superior attitude assumed by those who judge everything and everyone but themselves and insist that there are no more spiritual gifts...certainly not tongues at any rate.

They handily ignore all teaching/instruction regarding tongues that we find in I Corinthians and twist scripture that obviously does not agree with their posits and sometimes get very angry. The anger is meant to make a person just go away.

I've been around the block a time or two myself. I do not agree with what you initially stated.

When a person speaks in tongues, it may be a language of men or of angels. It may be a language that is no longer spoken. It's simply a language.

Now dealing with the subject at hand. God is all knowing and powerful and knkws what people need in order to bolster their faith.
And certainly if a person called by God to deliver the gospel to a foriegn place needed special ability to speak their language God would indeed grant such a gift. Also i think that if a person needed within their prayers to speak beyond their ability for what ever reason God would indeed give such an ability. What is seen mostly in the book of Acts is that the speaking in tonges was evidence to Hebrew people that gentile people has recieved the Holy Spirit and thus salvation, today this isnt necessary.

Speaking in tongues has absolutely nothing to do with "delivering the gospel." When a person speaks in tongues, he is speaking to God, not to people (1 Cor 14:2). He is praying in the spirit (1 Cor 14:15). Speaking in tongues is not a witnessing tool.

Also i think that if a person needed within their prayers to speak beyond their ability for what ever reason God would indeed give such an ability.
Every Christian has the ability to speak in tongues (1 Cor 12:7), and God would like every Christian to do it (1 Cor 14:5).

What is seen mostly in the book of Acts is that the speaking in tonges was evidence to Hebrew people that gentile people has recieved the Holy Spirit and thus salvation, today this isnt necessary.
"Mostly"? What about Acts 2? Acts 19? What about Paul saying (by revelation) that he would like all Christians to speak in tongues? Why, exactly, do you think speaking in tongues is no longer necessary?

I am a Pentecostal, & I've seen a lot. But I won't judge the whole group for it.
