Agree, it is personal. For certain!

What I am not saying is that it is only for a specific few or that people are unable to believe the Gospel because they are triple blinded.

It is a common tactic to bring up Peter, which was a very unique time in the history and development of Christianity
and then assert that people can only believe by some specific act of God and that hearing the Gospel is not sufficient.
How many times did you hear the gospel before surrendering to the Truth of God's revealed written Word?

I heard it hundreds of times. Hearing does not equal understanding, or accepting. An act of God was required.

Actually, God got my attention a number of times before I surrendered my life to Him in my 50th year.

Ears to hear and eyes to see. Thank You, Lord!

My brother, you just said a mouthful !! That's as blunt as you can ever make the point! There is no limit to His mercy.
I don't mess around with that stuff. You can have your views on doctrines fine but when it comes to Jesus himself that it is where I draw the line. I don't know who he is to so called elects but he is not just my savior he is not just my best friend, he is also my king my Lord and that title demands respect.

I will not stand by and let someone spit on his name like that

I wasn't questioning Jesus as the rock of salvation in any way I was just curious as to why when Jesus was speaking to Peter he said on this rock I will build my church but to Peter specifically

He wasn't talking about salvation he was talking about the building of his church so he clearly wasn't referencing himself as the rock of salvation when here he says He then stated, “And I say also unto thee, Thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it”

So I apologize my curiosity gets the best of me sometimes I was just curious about this because the belief Peter built the church because Jesus called him the rock he would build it upon well I wondered why Jesus called him a rock and that he would build upon it his church when if I am not mistaken wasn't the baptsim of the holy spirit that made the apostles speak in tongues when the church began or did Peter actually start a church

OOps Im sorry I forgot to un bold the letters I have to look up and down a lot to type because I have to be so close to the keyboard so mistakes like that happen. But anyways I actually think I did a study a long time ago about the churches being started by Peter first if I am not mistaken or am I wrong?

I don't remember where to find it the bible
Never a need for apology. I was just ruminating.

How long did you believe in God before you were born again? .

From when I was able to comprehend the concept of God at about age five I believed completely there was a God, never doubted.

The act of God occured after I believed in Christ for salvation, changed my mind about my dead works.

Well, that's a different question. I believed there was something, and some called it God. I could
get behind that even though I could not agree with or accept the Bible and the God portrayed within.

I believed in Jesus, and all the truth about His life, what I did not understand or know was that His sacrifice was personal, I thought is was a general act not a personal act for me.

That's why rebels are called rebels. They do that which is "not allowed" .:giggle:
True enough.
I was not interested in doing what was not allowed for some reason, I trusted my parents and their guidance, and looking back I am very thankful for that.

I was brought up in religious home. How much I heard about Jesus or heard the gospel is
actually questionable, given that it was the RCC. But surely I heard something. I just did not
believe it, and saw the whole religious thing as a sham I did not wish to participate in. At the
age of 33, I was curious enough about Who Jesus was that I went to a church at Passover/Easter
to watch a movie on His life based on the gospel of Luke. I had a profound encounter with God,
Who graced me with the knowledge of His unconditional love and forgiveness.Wow. I needed that.
It may have saved my life. But I still did not understand the gospel, or know Jesus. Nor did I believe
in that God, even though I was grateful to know He loved me, and that I was forgiven. Paradoxical
I know. I entered into a phase of seeking that lasted about 16 years after that.

People's unique testimonies remind us that there is more going on then we realize inside a person's mind and heart.
