The point is apostasy has happened before, and I see no reason to believe it's worse now than every before. Revivals happened because the Church wasn't doing the job. If you're saying the Catholic church has never in history been part of the Church, then that's a completely different discussion that I'm not going to get into. I see no point.
Nope, not what I said. What I said is the Catholic church left the word of God from the get go, can't see how the reformation applies as a reference to apostasy.

But regardless of how you understand apostasy what difference does that make?

It makes a difference because people latch onto things to "prove" we're in the end times. I've heard it my whole life.

We are in the end times and we have been for your whole life unless you were born prior to the Jews returning to Israel. This is the "terminal generation" and the Bible simply says the apostasy must come first, doesn't say we can't have had a couple of revivals prior to that.

I have a collection of books with end-times predictions that have come and gone. I'm sure I'll be able to continue to add to my collection.

What better way to discourage the believers than with false prophets. That is actually a sign that the Lord warned us about first when telling us what to look for.

We didn't know they were false prophets until after the time passed. It will be the same for others in the future.

The Lord has given us extensive discussion on what we would see, we were charged repeatedly to watch for His coming and we are also told that we can see the day approach.

People are deceived because they don't know the word very well and they are led away by their lusts.

We are not in darkness that we would be caught by surprise by that day.

So say them all.

Teaching believers that we should not be watching for the Lord's return is demonstrably false doctrine. Paul was in Thessalonica for a few weeks and taught them about the rapture. When asked Jesus gave extensive exposition on the signs of his coming. Paul talked about a crown for all those who love His appearing.

The teaching that no one knows the day or the hour and therefore they don't need to watch is also demonstrably false. Every time the Lord said that He concluded that therefore you need to watch. The examples He gives is of a farmer not knowing the day or the hour to harvest, hence he has to watch. A woman doesn't know the day or hour the baby will be born hence she needs to watch. You don't know the day or hour a thief will strike, hence you need to watch.

Also, no verse is of its own interpretation. When you couple those verses with others like Revelation 3:3 then it becomes obvious that although no one knew the day or the hour 2,000 years ago there is no expectation that true believers will be caught by surprise by the rapture.

Now we are told that man lives by every word of God. How many pastors follow that? There are many pastors who won't talk about certain topics. The Bible talks about the Antichrist extensively, how many pastors do? How many completely avoid the book of Revelation? 25% of the Bible is prophecy, how many spend 25% of their preaching on prophecy?

The solution to not being deceived is to be filled with the word of God, but if they won't teach this word then of course people will not be filled with the word that would make them wise unto salvation.

Ya know, those of us slow folk that’s been here for a decade, could probably benefit from the erudation of the guy that’s been here 5 minutes, and tussles all over the place.
Ah, the "I've been here a long time so I'm smarter than you" response. Like, I just crawled out from under a rock and have never been in Christian discussion group. I guess I'll just come back in 10 years once I'm a "senior member" like you.

Mentioned a grand total of four times in the singular, and once in the plural, by only one writer (John, but not in Rev.).

Yeah. It might not be such a great idea to join a site and then spend the first couple of days acting like a know it all bull in a China shop, just running around daring people to knock the massive chip off your shoulder.
How many people have you butted heads with in your very short time here?

But God forbid you would ever examine yourself to see if just maybe YOU’RE the problem?

It's all good. If I didn't passionately believe what I do, why would I argue in favor of it. No worries, I'm sure there are others here who are interested in healthy discussion. You have a wonderful rest of your day.
