Is there something wrong with me? I take offense to words on a picture like this?

Am I wrong thinking putting the Lord's name vainly on one of the threads on here is wrong? On any threads, I think its wrong, but I've rarely ever seen God wrongly mentioned (vainly), so it's just come up.
The Lord leads .

I admit, I'm no saint, I've done a lot of things in life not happy about but God's forgiven me again and again and again and I know my relationship with my Saviour is true, so... But, ladies, gentleman, when this kind of thing is said in a christian getting, like c.c. is, it really hurts me to see it.

My thoughts I know, just like the 'oral sex' thread, I adamantly stated my thought, along with 'sexual compatability'. Actually, Lord led me to just speak in that thread, I was rarely, if any, on topic.
And, I know saying , 'oh god.' And, 'oh my God,' are sayings you may have in your life now, and, as I said, only thing needed for going to see Jesus when you die is in John 3:16....'believeth in Him'. :)

I don't know if you have read the 10 commandments in the bible, but, and, again, we all have our hang-ups, things we do. I'm challenged constantly in my business to do what Jesus would do (I recomendó book, 'Jesus CEO', BTW. SO, UH, yeah! , I run my own biz and daily deal with public in transactions and doing things right is ,but I , well, OK, enough on that, it's not what I want this thread to be about.) and I am not judging you.

I am asking why people think using the Lord's name in vain is ok?

Thanks for answering and , a few last thoughts, we all err, every day for most folks, sin, too, we're only human, we're supposed to make mistakes, so says Billy Joel. I also like a song by The Human League, called 'Only Human.'
I'm not mentioning any christian songs because I can't think of any at the moment. :D

So , if God says, do not take my name in vain and, unlike MOST other commandments, there is actually a sentence that follows this commandments, saying, and, I kid you not, it says: 'You will be punished.'

So, for all those wondering if all bad comes from Satan, guess what, you can be punished (and operative word is 'will' here) for saying God outside of a reference referring to God respectfully.

I think this is a judgement call Mr Green. If it bothers you, then you need to click on the "x" button at the top of that thread and never ever open it again because nothing in that thread will be said that won't be offensive to you.

As for this saying? I don't know. God will have to convict me, because I say it often. With conviction. And I don't think I am going to hell. I am on dialysis, so there you have it. I am being punished.

I am sorry you were offended by the thread. I don't want to offended my fellow people in Christ. I want to be sensitive to all people in the body and you are included in that. So, please know that while I think it is a necessary topic, it was done with the most tack that could be tackled with, it was never intended to hurt anyone and I pray that there will be no division over this (more than what there already is).

I don't think its in vain when someone cries "oh God!" But I do think its blasphemous when someone uses the Lord's name as an expletive, like when they are angry and they exclaim Jesus's name as if it was a four letter word. That sort of thing does bother me. Especially when they do it in mainstream movies. Whats even worse is when they say God's name as an expletive when its coupled with the word that starts with D.

Sorry about the pic, Ed. I didn't think anyone would be offended by it, but now I know better. ;) No hard feelings? I now think that thread is somehow cursed (no pun intended!).

I think part of the problem is, we don't always know what it means by taking the Lord's name in vain. Like Green, I grew up thinking that phrases such as OMG was just as bad as saying G D. It's because God is Holy, and any name associated with God is to be considered Holy. I remember one time I said, "Oh Thank God", and my mom said not to use that phrase lightly. That if I said it, I should mean it.

However, to throw in so more food for thought, what about gosh and gee wiz? Some people say these words are also curse words, cause they are substitutes for God. And yet, these are words I found myself frequently saying, when I was younger. Sometimes, I might still use them, and not thinking of them as words that substitute God. But, does that make it right?? hmmmmm, have to think on that.

I guess maybe it depends on the context. When people just say OMG when they aren't literally crying out to God, then that is probably using his name in vain (and now I see how that pic can be offending - sorry), but if its said as a sincere cry out to the Lord it is not in vain. I guess that pic can be taken either way.

We all are, if you believe God's words are true, we are all bros, and, I have a lot of sis' on here too. :)

But I am praying heavily as I type, I feel just Lord-led now, sorry to offend anyone that may be uneasy on this tópic. , And, HEY!, I'm no saint, I've turned my back on God in my life and I was SEVERELY punished. My white picket fence was practically up, my wife was good as in the kitchen, my job was paying me handsomely when I was 25 years old....I was driving my nice little car along and forgot , well, God is having me do another thread for this now, you will soon hear it all, my God story that eventually changed my life.

But, yeah, I mean no harm, a lot of folk think (I think) that I think I am too ununderstandable, well, I know liam's said that. And, that is OK by me as our personalities will clash sometimes. I know though that, like I said above , we, as christians, ultimately, are after one thing-ending this life and IMMEDIATELY being out of this body but with Christ, as Paul says in think it's 2 Corinthians, or, mybe, Phillipians.

So, I am just saying why do you take the Lord's name in vain, if you do?
God says in scripture that He desires a personal relationship with each one of His sheep (believers).

Can you intimately be close to God if you are throwing his name around as some flavoring word to express your angst?

And, I like your creativity, zere, I never question that on here or the words you say to others are sincerely to help them, even, to bless them, but this picture popped up on a thread (and allfunfor, I am not referring anything negativo, or positive about thread. Please understand, I only am singling out the message in the picture, young lady :) )

God knows what is in our hearts and how we mean things when we say them. If we feel convicted then we should refrain from what ever activity we were doing that was wrong. I do not throw his name around lightly because I felt convicted as a fledgling christian :)

I'm not Jesus, and sometimes I like being immature. ;) I didn't make the picture. I just wanted a pic to show that the thread was really getting bad.

I think that it is important to not be legalistic, vkat. And , God knows I blurt those 'g' words out, but I assume you those words are not referring to His name.
Saying things like gosh, and gee, are not the same as taking the Lord's name in vain .
Ultimately, as I said before, your life is from God, and, God wants a personal relationship with you, and saying His name in vain will stunt your growth, even delay the good things of life God has planned for you. (jeremiah 29:11)

It should be a seperate thread but I know that I immediately cry inside if a girl who is a christian takes the Lord's name in vain. It is a weakness in your spirit , I feel, if you take the Lord's name in vain, ladies, the wrong guy (non-christian guy in singles group, who knows God's ways but is refusing them) will prey on you, ladies. Again, call my thinking grandiose or out-and-out weird, but that is how I feel. The Lord leads.
Sometimes the punishment from God can be what we do to ourselves, too. Sigh, sadly, :( , we do all the damage from our own actions, and, God doesn't have to even lay a hand on us.

Maybe 'You will be punished,' refers to the hurt we inflict on ourselves and, of course, the Enemy attacks us when we choose to get away from God's protección.

'Course, getting back on course is as easy as asking in God's name for protection back after first acknowledging and asking forgiveness for sinning on His name, He will ALWAYS have open arms for you no matter how far you journied away :)

If anyone wants to judge someone, please don't . God looks at our heart, as girlnext saye aptly. And, to quote another christian chatter, I only mean the thread to 'edify,' as julieannie would say. :)

The thread is about saying the Lord's name in vain(with no direction to God to help your life). Why do you think it is ok in your life to do it?

Remember, we all have things in our life and God specifically asks us why we are staring down that simple on his face when you have a growth on your own face, or body. ok, it's 'speck' in another's eye when 'plank' in own. But you get it. I get it. We, brothers, and, sisters, in Christ get it, don't judge, that is God's domain.

The picture is creative, funny, the ONLY things up for discussion are the words, the Lord's name , in that context. That's all, God bless your thoughts for others to read on this subject and I wholly pray God blesses you :)

Green, this has nothing to do with being legalistic. It's more, are even words that we use commonplace, taking God's name in vain. That's what I was asking. I don't know if anyone else has ever heard of that, and wondered what they thought.

By the way, legalism is only if you do or not do something with the attitude that it's because you are more holier than someone who does or does not do the same things. However, choosing to do or not do something, because deep in your soul, you believe God does or does not want you to, this something completely different from legalism.

(By the way, I decided to see what the origins of Gosh, Gee, and now even Golly were, take a look at this article, and then the definition from Meriam-Webster's dictionary.)

I don't care for those words either, but I think I would have contacted a brother privately before posting this. Seems a bit unkind. Are we truly edifying anyone by calling more attention to it?

As for threads that offend people, when I log on, I actually have to click on a thread to see it, it doesn't just fall open and slap me in the face. If I'm offended by one or think it's totally immature, I stop opening it and don't post there. I'm no one's judge.

Maybe my thinking is too simplistic...I dunno.. *shrugs*

Its ok, I'm sure Ed didn't mean any harm or judging by starting this thread. He's the nicest person on this forum in my opinion. I don't think he would hurt a fly. He just wants to know what people think of using God's name in vain.

I was not implying that Zere said it in a wrong way, NO!, I am not . God knows Zere's heart, and, as I know Zere, being on a christian site, I think Zere said it because that 'oral sex' thread was getting way out of control, or 'sexual compatability,' whatever one he posted the 'oh god, this thread sucks' picture on. I was simply saying that when people say the Lord's name in vain then it is going to be hurtful to you, and, if you REALLY READ my posts above you will see how you can be hurt without God doing anything to hurt you even. It is CLEAR in scripture, if you take the Lord's name in vain, YOU WILL BE PUNISHED.

I did not say it was by God or what, I don't know, I can't read into that and see it. I did explain some of my theories on the subject however :D

My whole thread is about the words in the 'this thread sucks' picture, it just was a good picture to use because God's name was in it and, as Zere said could be taken EITHER WAY, that is how I PRAY that I used it, and, how Zere used it. I would NEVER do something to hurt another brother or sister in Christ and if I was reprimanding someone I would do it, as you said, julieannie, privately. :) This thread is not about how words were used or by who, just simply....why would you take the Lord's name in vain?

And of legalism, I just think of 'legalism' and thinking of that definition as you need to follow God's word to a point of fault and I so do NOT believe that. I believe in having a personal relationship with Jesus, which ALL of us on planet Earth can have just by doing something so hard, so hard, I mean, you have to go to church 25 times, read your bible once through cover to cover, and, it's sooooooo-soooo hard to do :( Don't become a christian ! You can't do it !!

......NO! Of course not :) All those words are blather, foolish, what Satan will tell you. It is so SIMPLE to have Jesus come into your heart. How? Invite Him in. You don't need NO ONE around either, praying mother Mary's or even praying holy scripture, you just need YOU !

Ed, I already mentioned that I didn't put those words on there. Its not my picture. I copied it from somewhere.

I was just looking for a pic that said "THIS THREAD SUCKS". And u know what...this thread is starting to suck too. :)

Ok, that seemed a bit harsh. I wasn't trying to be harsh. Just want to make sure people see that its not my picture and that I didn't put the words on there. ;)
