You might be really, really old, but you were no more alive during prohibition than anybody else here.

You don't know anymore about it than I do. I promise you.

Alcohol destroys people and families every single day.

If you know so much about that first-hand, then you are a work of God that He cannot use. If you are speaking FOR the consumption of alcohol, ESPECIALLY among Christians, then you have failed to produce good fruit for the Lord from your own life experiences.
You have no idea who I am, what I have experienced, what I have done or how God uses me. I am neither for or against alcohol. I am against drunkeness. I am even more against dead religiosity, legalism, slanderous speech and false accusations that are the hallmark of much of what you have to say. You twist God's word to suit your own preconceived notions. Reading about the Pharisees in NT should encourage you to reject the pharisaical attitude. Instead, you embrace it.

Alcohol is a non-issue. You've made it into one. That is being divisive and you indulge your critical spirit. You will be judged as you judge others.

Proverbs 9:1-6
Wisdom has built her house,
She has hewn out her seven pillars;
She has slaughtered her meat,
She has mixed her wine,
She has also furnished her table.
She has sent out her maidens,
She cries out from the highest places of the city,
"Whoever is simple, let him turn in here!"
Him who lacks understanding, she says to him,
"Come, eat of my bread
And drink of the wine I have mixed.
Forsake foolishness and live,
And go in the way of understanding.

Alcohol is a non-issue..
Same as money, power and such. It is what we do with it, not what is it.

Yes, lots of problems from alcohol abuse, yet more problems from money, forbid it from church? Fanatics create zombies.

the Bible ( in Proverbs and other places) condemns gluttony , but for some reason, most Christians never mention that..

I use a charcoal filter for my water. Fits perfectly into the refrigerator.
Excellent!
I used to be a distributor for Berkey USA and we had countertop units. The purification units were mostly an activated charcoal matrix too. I still use my Royal Berkey every day from the well. It saved me thousands and feel better after getting away from municipal chemicals.

No more cattle, no more yeast.
Let nothing rise, kill every beast.

This is the new motto for the green revolution.
Let just hope that the cattle and the yeast never think to form an alliance against us and develop the bovine beer burp wmd.

Furthurmore to your comment, I note that you were almost certainly not in attendance at the wedding in Cana. So you have no clue as to whether or not Jesus drank the alcoholic wine that He made. All that you have is speculation and the arrogance to believe that your unfounded opinions are beyond challenging. Guess again.

Just when you think it can't get any worse, natural gas gets us again.

Deuteronomy 14:26 Use the silver to buy whatever you like: cattle, sheep, wine or other fermented drink, or anything you wish.
Actually Leviticus 10: 8-11 would be more applicable: 8 And the LORD spake unto Aaron, saying,
9 Do not drink wine nor strong drink, thou, nor thy sons with thee, when ye go into the tabernacle of the congregation, lest ye die: it shall be a statute for ever throughout your generations: 10 And that ye may put difference between holy and unholy, and between unclean and clean; 11 And that ye may teach the children of Israel all the statutes which the LORD hath spoken unto them by the hand of Moses.

Are believers within a Royal Priesthood even better than the Levitical priesthood? Do believers enter into the sanctuary in Heaven when they pray, which is better than the tabernacle of the congregation? Do believers need to put a difference between holy and unholy and between clean and unclean?

Now regarding the first miracle of Christ, we need to understand that that wine was unfermented grape juice of a very special quality. And that the word "wine" in Scripture can apply to both unfermented grape juice as well as strong fermented alcoholic drinks (depending on context, and also the different Hebrew words used). The distinction is not found in the Greek.

We should also take note that regarding the Lord's Supper the Bible speaks of "the cup" rather than its contents. Since yeast and fermentation are equated with corruption and sin in the Bible, the bread and the wine were both without fermentation -- hence "unleavened bread" for the Passover as well as the Lord's Supper, and pure grape juice would represented the sinless blood of the Lamb.

Amazing how far non-brewer-baptists will go to claim any level of alcohol consumption is sinful.

“Everyone serves the good wine first, and when people have drunk freely, then the poor wine. But you have kept the good wine until now.”

That statement would not apply very well to un-fermented juice.

Why not?
Some fruit juice is good and others poor quality. We've all had store bought apple juice.
If you ever have the chance to drink fresh pressed Snap Dragon apple juice you'll change your mind. I guarantee!

I've been to wedding receptions with punch bowls of cheap juice. They often add I've cream to make it tastier and fancy for the special occasion. If someone brought in a big punch bowl and set it next to it filled with high quality fresh juice (non alcoholic wine), which would people prefer?
I would go for high quality over the standard typical stuff you pick up at the store.

The difference being you can tell the difference between the two because you are not impaired.

People pretending that the context does not imply impairment are only fooling themselves.

because that's how drinking works. You start with high end, and when your senses are dulled a bit you switch to the cheap stuff.

Back then keeping juice fresh was a problem, unpasteurized juice spoils fast and it would have been hard to keep it from fermenting anyway, they had no way to kill the yeast present on the grapes themselves.

That being said, the alcohol concentration could vary from one extreme to the other, high end wine would likely of only been 8-9 percent by volume, whereas cheaper stuff made by watering it down could have been around 1-2% or even less.

I should also add the text only says how many water containers there were and of their size, not how much was drawn out.

I wasn't sure what you meant at first, but
That's a good point. I don't think anyone else made that.

I don't think a watered down alcoholic beverage to near nil % is the issue.
Kombucha can have that much if kept too long until it goes into the second stage fermentation.
However, if someone wants to stop fermentation, it's not difficult. We kept preservative free home made grape juice in the pantry for years.

I used to brew beer and stopping fermentation without ruining the beverage would have been a tricky process, and dangerous after bottling if it wasn't actually stopped.
