The point was that those gifts were not done away with, and neither were the others. I am on topic :)

Revelation 19:10b plus 1 Corinthians 13:8-9 The testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when the perfect comes, the partial will pass away.
Thank you for the inspiration .:)

Tongues are the vehicles by which we all communicate, and there is plenty of example of how people misinterpret each other constantly even while speaking identical tongues.
Yes, but we learn our language with which we communicate, even if it is used poorly at times. The gift of tongues was a language unknown to the speaker but known to the hearer.

The good thing is that your bad experiences don't render the Word of God Null and void and replace the legitimate workings of the Gifts of the Holy Spirit. Nothing in the Word of God states that the gifts of the Holy Spirit stopped in 70 AD. That is a lie.
He was referring to one particular gift ending in 70AD, tongues, not "gifts" plural which you erroneously stated.

That is why tongues were a sign to Jews who were refusing to believe. Hearing a language that they knew, and knowing the one speaking it did not know, was something they could not deny, yet denied it just the same.

Ironically, those Jews became just like Pharaoh who could not initially deny the plagues over Egypt.... He needed to willfully harden his heart to maintain a state of denial.

Likewise, the Jews who were rejecting Christ hardened their hearts like Pharaoh. They did so until 70 AD rolled around when God had Rome destroy the Temple in Jerusalem, and the city ransacked...

1 Corinthians 14:19-21

But in the church I would rather speak five intelligible words to instruct others
than ten thousand words in a tongue.

Brothers and sisters, stop thinking like children. In regard to evil be infants,
but in your thinking, be adults.
In the Law it is written:

“With other tongues
and through the lips of foreigners
I will speak to this people,
but even then they will not listen to me,
says the Lord.”

Like Pharaoh did against God's signs in Egypt, those implacable Jews also refused
to repent and be saved with the sign of tongues. They were hearing foreign languages
that they knew, and at the same time, knew the one speaking them did not!

As God closed the waters upon Pharaoh and his chariots and drowned them?
God, likewise, had Jerusalem flooded with Roman soldiers to destroy the city,
to take away the center of their arrogance and pride. The Temple was destroyed!

Hypnotizable people would be protected if they would only understand and heed God's Word
concerning tongues. It ceased after Jerusalem was destroyed!

Speaking of Tongues...

Paul tells us what it's original purpose was.

Who were they that refused to listen?

I will speak to this people (Jews!)
but even then they will not listen to me,
says the Lord.”

That's only one aspect of "Tongues" see 1 Cor 14 for more info.
Having the gift while it was valid had its benefits for the recipient.

Today, people living in emptiness find being taken over by what they call tongues to give them a sense of relief from their vacuum inside. Pagans speak in tongues! They do not have the Spirit..

Only sound doctrine in the filling of the Spirit can fill that void!
Tongues can not fulfill. They can only momentarily stimulate and excite to take one's mind off of their emptiness....

1cor chapter 12 trough 14 don't say that.
They were written before 70AD, and only applied for the time needed to be a sign to the Jews who were going to be judged
for rejecting Jesus.

If it is for today? Just enjoy it and stop trying to convince others that you are not deceived.

cherry picking

You left out much!

14 1. Pursue love, and desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy. 2 For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries. 3 But he who prophesies speaks edification and exhortation and comfort to men.

4 He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church.

5 I wish you all spoke with tongues, but even more that you prophesied; for he who prophesies is greater than he who speaks with tongues, unless indeed he interprets, that the church may receive edification.

6 But now, brethren, if I come to you speaking with tongues, what shall I profit you unless I speak to you either by revelation, by knowledge, by prophesying, or by teaching?

7 Even things without life, whether flute or harp, when they make a sound, unless they make a distinction in the sounds, how will it be known what is piped or played? 8 For if the trumpet makes an uncertain sound, who will prepare for battle?

9 So likewise you, unless you utter by the tongue words easy to understand, how will it be known what is spoken? For you will be speaking into the air. 10 There are, it may be, so many kinds of languages in the world, and none of them is without significance. 11 Therefore, if I do not know the meaning of the language, I shall be a foreigner to him who speaks, and he who speaks will be a foreigner to me. 12 Even so you, since you are zealous for spiritual gifts, let it be for the edification of the church that you seek to excel.

13 Therefore let him who speaks in a tongue pray that he may interpret.

14 For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful.

15 What is the conclusion then?
I will pray with the spirit, and I will also pray with the understanding. I will sing with the spirit, and I will also sing with the understanding.

AGAIN... That was written to the early church.

Written at a time when the gifts were supposed to be still active!

It would be like reading a manual for a car model that was written for the days when engines were
all carburated (no fuel injection yet) and explaining the benefits of properly adjusting a carburetor!

But, now? The days of carburation have ceased.

that text doesn't say the gifts Tongues or otherwise ended in 70 AD :)
Nor have I ever said anything of the sort... in all my years of being here .:)

Speaking of which, whatever happened to that Roger guy you used to argue with about this issue?

Come to think of it, I have not seen him for some time

1cor chapter 12 trough 14 don't say that.
You got to look elsewhere for that.
For the Bible works as one connected thought.

Here's an example of how your plea is empty...

Has your right eye ever offended you?
Where does it say you should not literally pluck out that eye?

That's a psychologically manipulative statement.
So what are you REALLY doing here?

The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell
where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.” John 3:8

You can hear me. Yes... But like the wind, you can not figure out where I am coming from, nor where I am going.

Still can't figure it out? Think! :D
