I agree. It is enough that Bible is clear that these gifts that cessationists are so afraid of are still here until Jesus returns.

If they want to ignore them... oh well - they shortchange themselves and miss out on those blessings while you get to enjoy them and be blessed by them! :giggle:

I don't know. They're practically saying it's demonic or cult-based - attributing the things of the Spirit to demons. Does that sound like a matter of milk and meat? A remember another group in the Bible that attributed the things of God to demons....

Anyway, the Bible says....

Luke 11:11 “Which of you fathers, if your son asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead? 12 Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? 13 If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!

So if we are living by the Holy Spirit, He isn't going to give us anything demonic!

I know I don't. They are revealed and I am warned, nor do they desire to come near me. Anyone else recall these events in your lives? :)(y):coffee:

So, what is the head off then? Again, there are other places where people speak in tongues and nobody is present to interpret nor does anyone understand It in their own language. Here's another question to follow: If they spoke in tongues and there was no interpretation, how does the person around them who witnessed the tongue know what they were saying? Just curious.
Well I advise saying what Jesus taught about tongues and what every epistle except 1 Corinthians teaches about the subject.

1 Corinthians chapter 12 through 14 , Acts chapter 2, Mark 16 .
Quoting scripture does not prove the validity of claimed current events.

Are you aware of this?

Why would you NOT WANT TO DO something that the Holy Spirit enables you to do???
That is like saying why would you not want to move mountains if Jesus enables you.

That is like saying why would you not want to move mountains if Jesus enables you.

If Jesus does enable you and tells you to move mountains, then I don't see why you wouldn't be able to. If that is His specific will for you.

On the flip side if that's not Jesus' will for you, then it won't happen. That's all. The statement about moving mountains in the Bible was general. It wasn't for anyone specific but as an encouragement to believe when God tells you something is possible for you.

Receiving the gift of tongues isn't for everyone. If the Holy Spirit doesn't want to give you this gift, that means He hasn't enabled you to do speak in tongues. And it's clear He hasn't given it to you. Which is fine. You have other gifts that God has given you to build up the church! But you shouldn't pooh-pooh the Christians that the Holy Spirit has given this gift to.

How about when we respond to each other, we do not stoop low to disrespect one another. We are to love each other, even if we disagree. I have seen for the past few days several comments in which its opinion - why don't we approach the discussion with the word and reason concerning the scriptures. God calls us to sharpen each others understanding. I don't care if you are cessationist or continuationist, we are brothers and sisters in the Lord and we should treat each other with that in mind.

Well Thomas was filled with the holy spirit perhaps not at the time the apostles were given it but he was at pentecost when the spirit came down wasn't he?
With the 120 together, yes. But some people use to interprete that pentcost Was the second experience with the Holy Spiotit. Because the apostles had aready received the Holy Spirit when Jesus breath it to them.
again you are unbiblical with this topic. and say the same ridiculous things over and over again.

You can't show one verse in the bible stating that the Gifts of the Holy Spirit are not for today. To call something false and be ignorant of the teaching is very amusing. The experience at Azusa was not the first. The Book of Acts chapter 2 was. The second was not even at Azusa. The experience of utterances was noted and documented from the church fathers, such as

Tongues In The Second, And Third
And Fourth Centuries

Among the Church fathers that lived following the death of John the Revelator in 98 A.D., Montanus of Phrygia stands as a leader in the support of tongues. Eusebius, a fourth century Church historian writes that the followers of Montanus would be “carried away in spirit, and wrought up into a certain kind of frenzy and irregular ecstasy, raving, and speaking, and uttering strange things.”(2)

Irenaeus, a disciple of Polycarp who was in turn a pupil of the Apostle John, wrote in his book “Against Heresies”
“In like manner do we also hear many brethren in the Church who possess prophetic gifts, and who through the Spirit speak all kinds of language and bring to light for the general benefit the hidden things of men and declare the mysteries of God, whom also the apostles term spiritual “

You were provided this information many, many times. You spew ignorance with your unbiblical comments. Why do you continue to display immaturity? After being shown again and again how wrong and unbiblical you are? What a hateful person. In your very post here, you have no biblical text to refute what you even say, which started at Azusa.

The Gifts of the Holy are for today and have not stopped. You have no Biblical text to say otherwise.
Why you missinterprete my saying? I have not said that the Holy Spirit is not giving gifts today!!

You will also find people that believe the scripture, i.e., Sola Scripture!

Not theology or the diabolical history of the church.

Here are three gifts of the Holy Spirit; wisdom, knowledge, and faith.

People are claiming that the gifts of the Holy Spirit no longer apply?

Wisdom, knowledge, and faith, no longer apply?
I have never said.

What does WG say that you can’t summarize here?
:) He's a great theologian.
Either way, if we go with my perspective on what scripture teaches on tongues, everyone here would be speaking in tongues if they believed it.

Mistranslation, most copies will affirm what appeared to them like tongues of fire or divided tongues of fire. It means that it was not literal. Here, it is a little confusing because instead of "like" they use "as of".

Personal Prayer language.
to say of means it was like or had the appearance of you just need to understand how words work and what they mean in context

I understand what it means - however, in this context, it is a likeness not a direct indication of fire literally coming down.
