I'm starting to suspect might be the culmination of the attempt to fulfill Masonic prophecy, as outlined by Albert Pike to Mazzini in that infamous letter from 1871. If one interprets Christianity as "Zionist Christianity" or "Scofield Christianity", perhaps that is how they were/are planning to destroy it (with false prophesy that somehow doesn't come true).

This manifestation will result from the general reactionary movement which will follow the destruction of Christianity and atheism, both conquered and exterminated at the same time."
