There's this Christian publisher in NZ maybe you can enquire they might know of a Canadian Christian publisher . I don't think it's a pay for publisher like a self-publishing outfit. It's a traditional publisher meaning it will pay you, not the other way round. Don't fall for the scam of self-publishing.

A few, the one in PA wants $3,000 US and another one in Winnipeg said it wasn't ready for publishing and rejected it.

Well thats the thing keep persevering until you find one that accepts you and doesn't ask any money for it.
Writers are rejected all the time. If it's only 'a few' you need to find a few more...

Ya scammers. Bad news. I hear ya. I got 4 long stories of a real good time with them. Thanks for taking a joke well but really no issues with Canadians. I heard the ice skating was in and knew a family that went frequently. Sounds like fun to me. Be well and watch or those foxes.

I'm trying to encourage him to submit his manuscript to a REAL traditional publisher, not a scam publisher who wants money upfront. Real publishers give you an advance and pay YOU, not the other way round.

I think the expensive ones are self publishing companies.
Its the ones under a $1,000 that I think are scams out of India.
 
^^ go talk to some REAL published writers and publishing houses, not scams online.
If you can print your entire book on a desktop printer, it's not a real book IMHO. There's more to a book than just words.

Anyway, wonder why you left your church? Are you still going to one/finding another or just taking a break.

I don't know of any writers groups around here,
I can, but I want it printed professionally to sell commercially so I can use the income to try and get off social assistance, and maybe look at making a career as a writter.

I left because I moved, I had to move to Winnipeg when my landlord and his girlfriend no longer wanted anyone living with them, then covid hit, every thing shut down and a year after moving, I got an offer here and yes I did attend during covid, In person and online and then I moved here and have been attending churches but none of the same denomination.
