1 Corinthians 1:23
But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness;
I am not pretending to know your life's story, but I am sure that coming to Christ from any brand of Judaism would not be a smooth journey, any more than it was from my former Atheism.
True, but when one's resolve is set firmly upon the Lord replacing every belief I had ever been taught in the past, replacing it all with only His truths, that makes the journey much easier to bear.
Many seem to carry baggage from modern Judaism, never even having been in it.
I guess you have more excuse.
Modern Judaism isn't much different than 2000 years ago. Pharisaical tendencies still abound among many of my brothers and sisters.
A bit bazaar (in an upside down sort of way) that you equate spiritual Israel with Westernized religion.
I would have thought that modern Zionism- both political and religious, comes from the West.
Did I say that?
When you speak of "spiritual Israel," I assume you're talking about all who were born secular Gentiles and converted into Westernized religions of so-called Christianity. It is understood that not all who are genetic Jews are Jews...those who reject Christ Jesus as Messiah. That will soon change, with 2/3rds of our genetic numbers wiped off the face of this earth.
Lets consider Jesus response to a direct question about the restoration of Israel:
Acts 1:6 When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?
7 And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.
8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you:
Notice that Jesus does not yet consider them ready to understand, because the Holy Ghost is not yet come upon them.
The restoration of the Israel of God is SPIRITUAL, and now that we have the NT completed up to Revelations, we no longer have excuse not to know that.
Spiritual Israel, then, as you appear to be defining it, is not those who will remain here on this earth past the catching up to enter into the Kingdom yet to come.
Reading through Paul's epistles I find him constantly breaking down "the middle wall of partition" (Ephesians 2:13-15) between the circumcision and uncircumcision in Christ Jesus.
Here is a good example:
Galatians 6:14 But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world.
15 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature.
16 And as many as walk according to this rule, peace be on them, and mercy, and upon the Israel of God.
God is the God of Abraham Isaac and Jacob,
and through Jesus we all call Him our Father.
We are all one family even with the OT saints,
and Heavenly Jerusalem is a real city.
That middle wall of partition came down at the fall of Israel spoken of by Jesus Himself:
Luke 13:6-9
6 He spake also this parable; A certain man had a
fig tree [symbolic of Israel] planted in his vineyard; and he came and sought
fruit thereon, and
found none.
7 Then said he unto
the dresser [symbolic of the Father] of his vineyard, Behold, these three years I come
seeking fruit on this
fig tree, and find
none: cut it down; why cumbereth it the ground?
8 And he answering said unto him, Lord,
let it alone this year also, till I shall dig about it, and dung it:
9 And
if it bear fruit, well: and if not, then after that thou shalt cut it down.
One year after the ascension of Christ, they stoned Stephen who issed the most scathing of all indictments against Israel for our rejection of Messiah and our crucifixion of Him. That was the beginning of the fall of Israel. Before that, Gentiles were outside the commonwealth of Israel, with God and without Christ, and without hope apart from Israel because of that middle wall of partition.
There are more scriptural proofs of all this, but that should suffice for now.
