No one here is saying he is free to chose as he is.
The will of the natural man/flesh is sold under sin, Paul as an regenerated man made that statement Rom 7:14ff

14 For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin.

15 For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I.

16 If then I do that which I would not, I consent unto the law that it is good.

17 Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.

18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not.

19 For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do.

20 Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.

21 I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me.

22 For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:

23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.

24 ;O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?

25 I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.

Paul is saying even now, with his body of flesh, he is present tense serving the law of sin. Now how much more is that doubly true as a unregenerate man ? Do you think Paul believed he had a freewill from the servitude of sin ?

Joshua was speaking to people who were vacillating, unsure, unsteady, not devoted to serving God alone. They served God and also served Amorite idols.

Joshua told them to make up their minds, of their own free will, who they would serve.

If they were already in exclusive service to God, Joshua would not tell them to choose.

Joshua 24:15

And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.
That Joshua knew they served God first tells us,as dis Jesus in the New Testament, that their natural mind could not have served God at all so to be later told to choose. Because,as Jesus said, the natural man cannot understand the things of God. So as to serve him at all.

If they had already chosen to serve God, Joshua would not have told them to choose who they would serve.
When Joshua knew they had a choice to make as to which they would serve,he already knew God called them from their natural minded state prior to his artival.

Because he knew the natural mind cannot serve God of its own choice, but by God removing that blockage so to then understand the things of God.
Which those people to whom he gave the choice did. That's the only way they could consciously choose to abandon the idolatry by which the local culture had influenced them, and choose to serve God alone. Because they knew who God was and what service entailed. As did Joshua.

If they didn't already know God,by God's doing, there would have been no need to propose unto them an alternative to the idolatry.

remember the opening chapter of Job?

Job tells us he was living in fear (fear is sinful, see Revelation 21:8) and that is what caused the hedge of protection God put around Job to be breached so Job caused his own troubles.

I don't think any rational person could argue that God wasn't responsible for the injury that Satan caused

Yes, the false teachers always claim God is the One doing wrong and He is evil.

God is not evil or responsible for evil coming upon anybody, but the tares who are speaking and teaching in behalf of the devil claim God is evil. Thank you for outing yourself as to you is leading and guiding your teaching which is false.

he could have stopped it.

Not without becoming a liar He can't.

God said His Kingdom is based on seedtime and harvest (Mark 4:26, Genesis 1:11), and He said He is not mocked what man sows is what he shall reap (Gal 6:7,8) - So Job had gotten in to living by fear being scared his children were going to curse God and die and it's his fear that was sinful.

God cannot just stop satan from attacking someone when they have turn away from the Lord and are gotten in to sin (fear is sin according to Jesus - see Revelation 21:8) because if He did then He makes Himself out to be a liar because they would mean man does not reap what he sows.

Sorry to see you have been taught false doctrine concerning Job and Paul leading you to believe God is an absentee Father Who does not care for His children and sits idle watching satan destroy His people and taking so much joy in seeing evil come upon people. They taught you lies of satan on this top.

James 1:13-15
Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:
But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.
Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.

Secondly and this is most important, God is the transcendent creator God. Most people think of reality as a house with an upstairs and a downstairs and God dwells upstairs with the Angels. But God exists in a higher plane of reality than his creation. His agency is creativity through speech. He says, "Let there be light," and there is light. Not only this but as Paul reminds us "In him we live and move and have our being." The Bible teaches us that reality has a narrative structure. God doesn't just create stuff; he creates historical events.

Meaningless religious word salad.

Do better!

There is no cosmic principle or rule that requires God to keep Lucifer around.

Your lack of knowledge on how God's Kingdom works on display.

Imagine that. God waited all that time to kick Lucifer out of heaven. Why didn't God do it sooner?

No, the moment lucifer thought inside himself that he was going to over throw God's throne - like lightning he was cast out of Heaven. That's the speed of light. Can't get any faster than that.

The was able to get back in to go before God's throne due to Adam bowing his knee in sin to satan. God had given Adam authority to come before the Lord and when Adam committed high treason by turning away from God to become one with satan by sinning against God - that authority still had to be honored because God says the gifts and callings of God are without repentance (Romans 11:29), so if God does not honor His Word that would make Him a liar which He is not going to allow.

This is why there had to be an incarnation where God's Word takes upon flesh. One man caused sin to come in to the world (Adam), so the only way to get right standing in to the world so men can have a pathway unto salvation would be for Jesus to come, die on the Cross, and then be resurrected (Romans 5:17,18)

Again, claiming God is evil and could stop evil but choose not to is making God out to be... the devil. You should repent and ask the Lord to forgive you for the darkness that is in your heart that would cause you to continue to believe and teach others that God is evil.

God says he creates calamity, yet there is no darkness in God at all? What is that all about?

That is about you being ignorant of the scripture not understanding how God's Kingdom works

Your opposition to the Lord has created separation between you and the Lord.
Your time is short so I recommend repenting of this sin as quickly as possible.

Did I say anything about defeat? I don't think so.

Claiming God is evil is living in defeat, and being a mouthpiece for the devil to spread doctrines of devils.

And what does light look like?

Of course the tares have no idea since they are walking in darkness.

It is called projection from start to finish.
Talk about making scripture one's personal tool to support an ideology nowhere supported by the text.
Grace~~~Equal opportunity and equal privilege for ALL. His Gospel.

Calvie/reformed theory~~~I am special. You may or may not be. Good luck to some!

The serpent on the pole didn't need to be looked at. God was just covering His bases so He couldn't be blamed....According to the calvies.

These proof texts have been answered many times. The natural man is the Corinthian church? They are called carnal for their divisions, yet are still Christians.

"
1 Corinthians 2:14 — “The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned.”

So, the lost man needs someone to spiritually discern the “deep things of God” (vs. 10), right? What are the means God uses to discern spiritual truths to mankind? Is not the very epistle that Paul is writing to the carnal believers in Corinth a means of “spiritual discernment?” And since the “brethren” in the Corinthian church are “not able to receive” these same “deep things of God” (1 Cor. 3:1-3) one would be hard pressed to suggest that Paul was intending to teach that no one is able to understand the simple gospel appeal to be reconciled unless they are first reconciled.

Again, this text never suggests that mankind is born unable to respond to God’s clearly discerned gospel appeal. It only affirms that that mystery of the gospel must be discerned for us, which it has been. As Paul states, “When you read this, you can perceive my insight into the mystery of Christ, which was not made known to the sons of men in other generations as it has now been revealed to his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit.” Eph. 3:4

Neither side is suggesting that lost men can understand the deep spiritual truths of God apart from the means God has chosen to discern these mysteries. So, the question is whether God’s means of discernment through the apostles is a sufficient work of discernment that enables those who hear it to respond? "

Romans 8:7-9 — “For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God’s law; indeed, it cannot. Those who are in the flesh cannot please God. You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him.”

Mankind’s inability to submit to God’s law does not prove their inability to trust in Christ who fulfilled the law for mankind. Mankind’s inability to please God while acting in the flesh does not prove mankind’s inability to respond to the spiritual appeal of God so as to receive his spirit.

If I warn my rebellious son saying, “You cannot please me by acting selfishly,” does that suggest the child is unable to heed my warning, humble himself and repent of acting selfishly? Of course not. It only suggests that as long as my child continues to rebel and act according to his pride that he will not please me. This verse says nothing of man’s inability to respond to God’s powerful truth and appeal to humble ourselves. Each individual has the choice to remain in their flesh and pride or respond to the spirit’s call to humble themselves. If you choose the former YOU CANNOT PLEASE GOD.

Good resource for an answer to pretty much all of the very few verses calvinists can use. Meanwhile us in the apostolic historic side of the Church have pretty much the entire bible as our proof text. Every single time "Turn, repent" is used, it is a proof of free will. Unless of course God is shouting to the wind.

Free will is right there in the garden of Eden, and again when Cain is told by GOD:

"So the Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen? If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should rule over it."

The TULIP folk generally frown on context, exegeting the text, examining the text in original language, not building a doctrine on one verse etc.,

they prefer.... ... dummies.JPG

Seriously though.......What Good news do the calvies bring to the great commission ?

Teach none, they cannot hear you....

And what a miserable, death and pathetic message on all these forum pages from the calvie/reformed theory folk.

Two things: First, remember the opening chapter of Job? Satan argued with God that Job would curse God if he caused Job to suffer. God allowed Satan to give Job boils. Later, God also allowed Satan to destroy Job's extended family. Given this, I don't think any rational person could argue that God wasn't responsible for the injury that Satan caused. God allowed it, and he could have stopped it. But if God stopped it, Job would never have been tested or learned an important truth about God's nature. God doesn't allow evil but he does.
God allowing Satan to afflict Job does not mean God was responsible for the injury that Satan caused.

The Bible never says that God was responsible for Job’s afflictions.

Job set himself up, made himself vulnerable to, the attacks of Satan, by fearing bad things might happen.

Fear is sinful. Sin has consequences.

Job 1:5

And it was so, when the days of their feasting were gone about, that Job sent and sanctified them, and rose up early in the morning, and offered burnt offerings according to the number of them all: for Job said, It may be that my sons have sinned, and cursed God in their hearts. Thus did Job continually.

Job 3:25

For the thing which I greatly feared is come upon me, and that which I was afraid of is come unto me.

Yes agree and so disingenuous how they handle scripture and they have no qualms about it at all.
Case in point, Post #2666, I usually skim post those posts but I noticed you responded.
There is more than one soil in that parable.... so very disingenuous.

Only for those that don't know the Lord or the scriptures, like the calvinists.

I am seriously inclined to believe this more and more, God does not regenerate people before they hear and respond to the Gospel.

And everything is so badly misinterpreted, hear means to take heed/pay attention, and they give it some extra ordinary imposed ability that only some are bequeathed.

If salvation does not happen that way the logical conclusion is...

I wonder if there are any discussion boards out there that are pro calvinism

If there were, I suppose they would kick people out just for bringing in scriptures that proves calvinism is false doctrine.

These people believe they are elect and couldn't not go to Heaven even if they tried, so they may do what their idol John Calvin did and put a hit out on people that don't buy in to their fake doctrine and have dissenters whacked.

You know the devil really appreciates the calvinists

God does not regenerate people before they hear and respond to the Gospel.

This is true.

If He could, then universalism would be true because we know the Lord desires all people to be born again

The calvinists think God decided long before the creation of the world that only a few would be saved and those few just happen to be calvinists.

Can you imagine a calvinist going out in public to witness to people?

The calvinist be all like: "Hi, I'd like to speak without about eternal salvation thru Jesus Christ... although I have to be honest with you that I believe God has already decided that most people are assigned to burn in hell for eternity, so it's really doubtful that you made the cut so, well, never mind - your going to hell and there's no salvation for you. Too bad for you!"

They should have a comedy skit about calvinism because it's definitely a clown show.

If Calvinism/reformed theory were true, annihilation would be true.

But because the Son Died for ALL, there will be an ETERNAL lake of fire.

NONE will have an excuse. He is not willing for any to perish and He will make sure every one has their opportunity and privilege with His Son.

GRACE.

These proof texts have been answered many times. The natural man is the Corinthian church? They are called carnal for their divisions, yet are still Christians.
Answered many times by whom to who? Why say such things? It tells me nothing.

So you also conflate a carnal Christian with the natural man? That is wrong also.

You do not know who the natural man is, I take it. He is the one WITHOUT Christ.

He does not belong to Christ. He is of the world which cannot receive the Spirit of Truth.

Scripture says so. I don't think FWers can deal with these Biblical Truths.

They blow their philosophical construct out of the water.

It is reformed theory. Calvies don't like to be called calvies.

But you are spot on, what a witness we get on these boards from calvies........But they won't witness this barbaric "truth" in their churches. It's way more subtle for those worthless, steaming piles of dung out on the street.
