Also, I didn't know this, Renée Zellweger is a singer too. I just found out she won a best actress award for playing Judy Garland and did her own singing for it.
No, I haven't seen Chicago.
Although I did see the 70's movie Cabaret, I'm not really a fan of the music/performance I saw in a trailer of the film Chicago. I haven't seen the film Chicago, but I generally understand Chicago had more of Jazz musical dance (I do like Jazz), but I'm not really a fan of stage musical/dance.
There's some musicals I've liked, like Yellow Submarine, Grease, Xanadu and La La Land to name a few.
Ok well Liza Minnelli, Judy Garland's daughter, played/starred in both.
Grease was an all-time favourite of mine, and I know every song from that. The dancing was great too. It was originally a broadway stage show, but the setting was 1950s not the decadent 1920s of both Cabaret and Chicago.
Actually Lorna, Judy Garland's younger daughter also starred in the little known Grease 2 movie. Which I haven't seen, but I HAVE seen her sing on stage when she did her show 'Songs my mother taught me' . As well as Over the Rainbow, she also sang it beside the tune of 'Twinkle Twinkle Little Star'
I could write whole threads on musicals, but I kind of shy away from the Christian Music forum, as it seems exclusively Hillsong, and CCM which I'm not a fan of. I call it Canned Christian Music.

Yes, she did (Liza in Cabaret). Some of the performances in that, and of course the costumes and music were creative and well done. I like performative dance, but not a fan of the cliche Cabaret stuff. And I tend to stay away from stage musicals. Although there's always exceptions, like I enjoyed Annie on stage, which my school took us to for some reason.
I'm an Olivia Newton-John fan, music and person, and liked most of the music in Grease.
I also have a hard time listening to what the radio plays around here for CCM. I find most of it musically weak repetitive "praise music"... which of course I have no problem with, and let God be praised, but I do not find the vast majority of the music enjoyable. I find spiritual encouragement (or praise God) in ways other than repetitive praise songs.
There's lots of christian artists/music I absolutely love as a music lover, but it's extremely rare for me to hear what I like on local christian radio. I used to live in an area that played good christian contemporary rock, but I haven't found any station playing that where I live now.
I'm looking forward to seeing Jesus Christ Superstar in November.
Have you seen Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat? That was pretty good!
I've seen Fiddler on the Roof and Annie as movies. Love the songs. While the dancing and choreography can be amazing, I'm a lyric lady. I will always gravitate to music I can sing to thats got good lyrics.
My favourite Carole King's musical arrangements are amazing, but its the lyrics with her co-writers that made the songs.

I've seen Jesus Christ Superstar on stage and film. Lot's a good music, compelling play.
Carol King is great. My fav writ/performed by King is It's Too Late. My fav song she wrote and others recorded is Pleasant Valley Sunday by the Monkees. Of course Natural Woman - Franklin performing is great.
carol king is immensely talented in writing. i saw her "living room" tour years ago at S.P.A.C., saratoga.
