Some make too much money. Others are in the country illegally. All of them are riding on your dime.
Fox Business got the report ahead of a Capitol Hill hearing. The number has 𝐣𝐮𝐦𝐩𝐞𝐝 𝟖𝟖 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝟐𝟎𝟏𝟗, supercharged by pandemic-era rules that let states stop checking who actually belonged. The price tag for that negligence: 𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐥𝐲 $𝟑𝟐 𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫 in improper federal spending.
The worst offenders are exactly who you’d guess. In 𝐂𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐚, 𝟔𝟐 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐞𝐧𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞𝐥𝐲 𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐞 — 3.1 million people costing taxpayers more than $10 billion. New York isn’t far behind. And as Fox noted, the states have little incentive to fix a spigot Washington keeps refilling.
The cruelest part is who pays for it. Every dollar shoveled to someone who doesn’t qualify is a dollar taken from the disabled kid, the elderly widow, the genuinely poor American the program was built to protect.
