Is Knowledge of the Original Languages Necessary for KJV Believers?

Despite the popularity of personal interpretation and opinion that so many seem to place great value on these days, what is important, is interpretation that stays as close as possible to the original intent of the author (s)

That's a like a unicorn around here and sadly, very often in the edifice we call church.

Obviously, most of us are not interpreters of the original languages of scripture and due to the fact Americans seem to think everyone should dish it out in English, there is a big world out there and the likelyhood of the KJV being passed around in
Mongolia is probably pretty grim.

So, best to find a teacher or two who actually does understand and is able to explain the Bible as it was written and as the authors understood the 'time' they had been born in. The Bible is a spiritual book and no matter the efforts to create a 21st C viewpoint, it will be what it is. God does not change to suit our whims and neither does His word.

And that should be peer reviewed teachers and not some dude out on a limb while cutting down the tree. In other words, no cult figures and no ignoring what scripture actually states. We have plenty of that already.

I don't have anything against anyone if they want to use the KJV exclusively. In my experience though it's the KJV onlyists who seem to have a problem with everyone else, claiming they're trying to deceive the world with their evil modern translations. Give it a rest already. If you're happy with the KJV and believe that it alone is exclusively God's word then, go, be at peace and enjoy your KJV and leave the rest of us alone.

Yes, well.....there is that and the enthusiasts claiming the KJV is as inspired as the original text. I'm not sure why they even needed to translate anything that being the case.

There are a great many "dear leader's" who are hopelessly unqualified to teach. Or preach. Their hapless followers end up in a doom loop of ignorance and exploitation.

When you really dig deep and truly strive to do your own due diligence, the truths of Scripture become oh so obvious.

[Jhn 8:31-32 KJV]
31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, [then] are ye my disciples indeed;

32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

If I knew Greek, what manuscipt would I reference? I'll stick with the received text and the KJV. The bibles are NOT the same. The KJV claims it's not corrupt. I could make this a very long post. It's not hard to compare and see which one that stands alone. The God who saved me parted the waters and made promises. One of those was to preserve His word. I have ZERO doubt and know EXACTLY where it is. It's not good to overthrow kings.

2 Corinthians 2

17 For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ.

Psalm 12

6 The words of the Lord are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.
7 Thou shalt keep them, O Lord, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.

Alan Bunning, who seems to be the owner/ operator of the site, is a professor of computer science who also has a degree in Biblical Greek.

Miles Coverdale lived before the KJV was translated. He didn't get kicked out of the church. He did flee to continental Europe in 1528, because in his time, England was still under Roman Catholic domination. Coverdale didn't agree with Roman Catholic doctrines, and he realised it would be dangerous for him to remain in England - he had defended Robert Barnes at his trial for "heresy", and so he knew the dangers. (Barnes was eventually burned at the stake). Coverdale died in 1561, so many years before the KJV in 1611.

I think something important to also keep in mind is this.

The word of God is God.

Even the Bible tells us this.
John 1.

In the beginning was the word. And the word was with God.
-----
And the word became flesh and dwelt among us.

And the angel told Mary, you shall name the child Immanuel. Meaning God with us God with us. (paraphrased scripture)

Immanuel stated,no one can come unto him unless God calls them.

Paul tells us,the natural mind cannot understand the things of God. They are spiritually discerned.

When Holy Spirit enters us,that would be God, he then enabled us to understand the words of the word.

So really, any version of the Bible in mans language is unable to be understood. Until God enters us. And then it makes sense. Regardless of the Bible Version.

The Holy Spirit is the word that leads us home.

The Bible was not written for unbelievers.

God does not listen to the prayers of Sinners.

God's Elect. We are his because he made us to understand that first.

That's not Calvinism,btw. That's God's words.

It wasn't clear exactly what frederickdoc meant. As I mentioned in a reply to him, the jailer would only have been in danger from his Roman bosses if any prisoners had escaped, but Paul assured him that none of them had:

NKJV Act 16:28 But Paul called with a loud voice, saying, "Do yourself no harm, for we are all here."

So by the time the jailer asked about being saved, both he and Paul knew that he was in no danger from the Roman authorities.

As for the beating, that was ordered by the magistrates, not by the jailer. Nor did the jailer perform the beatings, which happened before the apostles were jailed:

NKJV Act 16:22 Then the multitude rose up together against them; and the magistrates tore off their clothes and commanded them to be beaten with rods.
Act 16:23 And when they had laid many stripes on them, they threw them into prison, commanding the jailer to keep them securely.
True points. So, you're not saying that Paul knew beforehand that the jailor would convert, but only that before he converted, they all knew the jailor wouldn't be executed for any escape...?

@frederickdoc, when you give the reference as John 12, is that the number of the chapter or the verse?

If it's chapter 12, which verse is it?

Or if it's verse 12, which chapter is it?

Now I've found it. It's John 12:32. In the KJV,
And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all *men* unto me,

But where did you find the word "judgment," in any translation of this verse? Or even in the original Greek?

In that powerful prison scene found in Acts 16, Paul actually walks out and models all three roles—Prophet, Priest, and King—at the exact same time!
However, when the Philippian jailer breaks down and gets saved, Paul is acting most powerfully as a Priest.
Here is the breakdown of how Paul operates in all three offices during this amazing event in the King James Version (KJV).

1. Paul as a PRIEST (The Way of Salvation)

A priest is a mediator. Their job is to stand in the gap, pray for people, and bring hurting, guilty humans into a right, clean relationship with God. This is the Zakutha (victory and legal innocence) we talked about!

Intercession through Praise: In Acts 16:25, Paul and Silas do not complain. Instead, "at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God." This is priestly worship happening in the dark.
  • Saving a Life: When the earthquake hits and the doors fly open, the jailer draws his sword to kill himself because he thinks the prisoners escaped. Paul steps in as a priest to save his physical life, crying out, "Do thyself no harm: for we are all here" (Acts 16:28).
  • Clearing the Guilty Record: The terrified jailer falls down and asks, "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?" (Acts 16:30). Paul acts as God's priest by offering the ultimate legal acquittal. He says in Acts 16:31:
"Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house."Paul stands there as a priest, wiping away the man's guilt and introducing his entire family to God.

2. Paul as a PROPHET (The Divine Power)

A prophet is God's spokesperson. They reveal God's heart, speak the truth, and are often accompanied by miraculous, supernatural signs that break the physical laws of the world.
The Prophetic Miracle: God sends a massive prophetic sign to back up Paul and Silas. In Acts 16:26, "suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken."
  • Speaking the Word: A prophet delivers the specific words of God. After the jailer asks how to be saved, Acts 16:32 says, "And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house." Paul acts as a prophet by declaring the divine truth that changes the atmosphere of that home.

3. Paul as a KING (The Spiritual Authority)

A king rules with absolute legal authority, commands order, displays unshakeable dignity, and cannot be bullied by the systems of the world.
Unshaken by Chains: Even though Paul was beaten with rods and cast into the inner prison with his feet locked in stocks, he never acts like a helpless victim. He holds his head high like royalty because he knows he serves King Jesus.
  • Enforcing Legal Rights: The very next morning, the city rulers try to secretly sneak Paul out of town to cover up their crime. Paul stands up like a king and refuses to be pushed around! In Acts 16:37, Paul uses his legal status as a Roman citizen and commands:
"They have beaten us openly uncondemned, being Romans, and have cast us into prison; and now do they thrust us out privily? nay verily; but let them come themselves and fetch us out
The magistrates actually get terrified, come down to the prison, and beg Paul to leave. Paul completely flipped the power dynamic!

The Beautiful Summary

When you look at the whole story, Paul perfectly displays the complete life of a believer:
He uses Kingly authority to endure the trial and command respect.
  1. He uses Prophetic power through prayer to shake the prison foundations.
  2. He uses a Priestly heart to stop a man from suicide, preach the Gospel, and bring total Zakutha (salvation and innocence) to the jailer's entire household!
