It's not a nuclear weapon or anything like that, the wicked last generation of humans in the times of end will be reduced to fighting on horseback before all this, their level of tech is described as swords and spears and chariots. The abomination of desolation is an idol, an idol is an abomination, a false god or false religion is an abomination. The text of all the mentions of the abomination of desolation make clear it is an idol, what the idol looks like, who empowers the idol, who makes the idol, and what it does.

Right. He is the final king of the North in the sequence of their kingdom recorded in Daniel 11, and he is the one that in that chapter also creates the abomination of desolation. It is an idol. Revelation 13 then colors in the end times more and makes this certain in great detail.

Look closer there are seven ….. then later one of the seven retirns a second time controlling the ten and destroying the great whore ( jerusalem ) to fulfill prophecy .

You're one that is close, but you forget that three horns get cast down before the little horn, and three kings of the North fall down in sequence before the Man of Sin reigns whom establishes the idol that is the abomination of desolation in Daniel 11. Indeed though, he betrays the people of the covenant and enters the holy land and establishes the idol where it ought not to stand.

hmm . I’m not sure how that relates to what I said but it’s always good to discuss however and hear other ideas .

what I was saying is ….
( This is during johns time )

“And there are seven kings: five are fallen, ( johns past ) and one is, ( johns present ) and the other is not yet come; and when he cometh, he must continue a short space.”( johns future )
‭‭Revelation‬ ‭17:10‬ ‭KJV‬‬

after that comes this beast with ten horns

“And the beast that was, and is not, even he is the eighth, and is of the seven, and goeth into perdition.”
‭‭Revelation‬ ‭17:11‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast.

These have one mind, and shall give their power and strength unto the beast…… And the ten horns which thou sawest upon the beast, these shall hate the whore, and shall make her desolate and naked, and shall eat her flesh, and burn her with fire. For God hath put in their hearts to fulfil his will, and to agree, and give their kingdom unto the beast, until the words of God shall be fulfilled.

And the woman which thou sawest is that great city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth.”
‭‭Revelation‬ ‭17:12-13, 16-18‬ ‭KJV‬‬

what I’m saying is this imagery John is seeing of the ten horns that are with this “ beast” is about Jerusalems judgement and destruction. It’s established repetetively in the ot the imagery of Jerusalem as a terrible whore who is constantly commiting adultery and pouring out her fornications on all those nations around her and god declaring that he would turn her lovers whom she commited her whoredoms with against her and let them defile and corrupt and leave her with nothing stripped naked and bare and burned and killed ect ect thier sanctuary would be destroyed leaving thier covenant desolate and unable to be observed…….thier city besieged by foreign armies surrounding them and the people cast out and scattered among the winds into all nations of the earth …….

this is why I had asked if you had read much prophecy about Jerusalem in the latter prophets . The pictures were seeing and imagery of a great whore being destroyed by several kingdoms and because of Gods Will and fulfilling his words ….. is about Jerusalem like Jesus was warning them repeatedly would come upon that generetion . It’s a really consistent image

Revelation is written in the form of an “ apocalypse “ ot expects us to know those images from prior revealed scriptures like the law and prophets or gospel .

The latter ot paints clearly the events we’re seeing there regarding the destruction and desolation of Jerusalem. Because of her many whoredoms and abominations pronounced with judgements .

consider the imagery those Old Testament prophecies create ….. then read revelation .

It really helps and takes away much of the mysterious and confusing things because those images are understood from the scriptire before and what it’s already said and shown

But I digress people have thier own views of revelation a lot I find

Well in Daniel 11:21-45 (which is way too long to post but the whole chapter is good) its clear the Beast of the Earth establishes the idol in the image of the Beast of the Sea in Jerusalem.

As for the Horns of the 4th Beast of Daniel which is the same as the Beast of the Sea of Revelation 13, which figurement is what the idol that the Beast of the Earth (whom is the Little Horn) creates and causes the sinners to make and worship is what the abomination of desolation is, it is an idol.

10 - 3 = 7

Daniel 7:7-8
7 After this I saw in the night visions, and behold a fourth beast, dreadful and terrible, and strong exceedingly; and it had great iron teeth: it devoured and brake in pieces, and stamped the residue with the feet of it: and it was diverse from all the beasts that were before it; and it had ten horns.

8 I considered the horns, and, behold, there came up among them another little horn, before whom there were three of the first horns plucked up by the roots: and, behold, in this horn were eyes like the eyes of man, and a mouth speaking great things.

Revelation 13:11-15
11 And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon.

12 And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed.

13 And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men,

14 And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live.

15 And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed.

What I was taught - The temple in Jerusalem will be rebuilt with the help of the Antichrist. The Jews will not recognize this until the Abomination of Desolation, which is when an Idol will be placed in the temple (Image of the Beast). At that time the Jews should recognize they aren’t supposed to worship idols, or the Antichrist.

Is Luke 21:20-21 referring to the abomination of desolation in Daniel?

Yes, it is better explained in Matthew 24:15 KJV
When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand):

How is it better explained?

Has Jerusalem ever been surrounded by armies?

From the OP:
The Book of Daniel describes something called 'the abomination that maketh desolate':
and
What is it? Has it happened already?
The hackneyed fable goes something like this: 'The Antichrist will break the peace treaty and he and the False Prophet will set up the abomination of desolation...'

The traditional interpretation has become so deeply ingrained that study Bibles routinely offer it in their margin notes. Indeed, few people are aware that it is based on the primary passage used to teach the faulty idea of a 7-year tribulation, and the fictional 7-year treaty. The truth is, there is not one verse in the entire Bible that teaches either concept.

There are two opposing perspectives of this abomination of desolation. When the deceived church sees the resumption of the Jewish sacrifice, they will believe they are about to be “raptured.” They won't believe the event they've just witnessed is the abomination, for they've been taught that won't occur until 3.5 years later with the cessation of the sacrifice.

The true believer will instead recognize the event as the abomination itself. They won't be expecting to be “raptured” because they know that Christ said when "ye shall see the abomination of desolation" it will then be time for them to flee into the mountains -- or quickly activate any contingency plans they've made to be preserved during the immediately ensuing destruction. The individual who inaugurates the resumption of the sacrifice is the Antichrist.

The book of Daniel even tells us that the abomination is NOT the cessation of the sacrifice. At the very end of the book, the angel tells Daniel that "...from the time [that] the daily [sacrifice] shall be taken away, and the abomination that maketh desolate set up, [there shall be] a thousand two hundred and ninety days." (Dan. 12:11).

This verse clearly tells us that the 'setting up' of the abomination and the cessation of the sacrifice are separated by a period of 1,290 days. If you look at it closely, you'll see the verse strongly infers that the resumption of the sacrifice IS the abomination of desolation. It's because the passage approaches the chronological events in reverse that it's somewhat veiled. Again, it reads "from [or between] the time that the daily sacrifice shall be taken away... and the [setting up of the] abomination," there will be a period of just over 3.5 years.

The final aspect of the Beast's revealing will only occur at Christ's second coming.

The truth is, the abomination of desolation is the resumption of animal sacrifices for the sins of mankind when the precious blood of God's only begotten son has already been shed for our desperate sinful condition.

Israel may have been surrounded previously but there has never been the Abomination of Desolation “as spoken by Daniel”

You asked , “ Is Luke 21:20-21 referring to the abomination of desolation in Daniel?”

In Matthew 24, The same exact story being told, Matthew records ‘ When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel“ - More clearly recorded/better explained

Jesus told His audience when they saw Jerusalem surrounded. Wouldn't that have to have been during their lifetime? First century?

I wouldn’t necessarily read it quite that literally, though it may be.

That’s why I said Matthew explains it better. They asked Jesus three different questions when he was telling them the temple would be destroyed. When will the temple be destroyed? When will you return? And, When will the end of the world be? Jesus’ response is to all of those questions (if they meant it as one question in time, it clearly is not)

The temple was destroyed but not the return of Jesus or the end of the world.

“Wherefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: and some of them ye shall kill and crucify; and some of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute them from city to city: that upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel unto the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar. Verily I say unto you, All these things shall come upon this generation. O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not! Behold, your house is left unto you desolate.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭23:34-38‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“For ye, brethren, became followers of the churches of God which in Judæa are in Christ Jesus: for ye also have suffered like things of your own countrymen, even as they have of the Jews: who both killed the Lord Jesus, and their own prophets, and have persecuted us; and they please not God, and are contrary to all men:”
‭‭1 Thessalonians‬ ‭2:14-15‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“But the Jews stirred up the devout and honourable women, and the chief men of the city, and raised persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and expelled them out of their coasts.”
‭‭Acts‬ ‭13:50‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“Whereupon, O king Agrippa, I was not disobedient unto the heavenly vision: but shewed first unto them of Damascus, and at Jerusalem, and throughout all the coasts of Judæa, and then to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, and do works meet for repentance. For these causes the Jews caught me in the temple, and went about to kill me. that Christ should suffer, and that he should be the first that should rise from the dead, and should shew light unto the people, and to the Gentiles.”
‭‭Acts‬ ‭26:19-21,

“And therefore did the Jews persecute Jesus, and sought to slay him, because he had done these things on the sabbath day.”
‭‭John‬ ‭5:16‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“For they have shed the blood of saints and prophets, and thou hast given them blood to drink; for they are worthy.”
‭‭Revelation‬ ‭16:6‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration.”
‭‭Revelation‬ ‭17:6‬ ‭KJV‬‬

johns admiration and wonder for this city should make things clearer why is he admiring when she killed the saints and prophets ?

Modern day idol is the TV/screen with animation and viewers thinking that it's real. But it's not. It's all fake.

Everyone knows that whatever is on film and tv, and now platforms like instagram is worshipped because it's an IMAGE

the medium is the message etc.
Images, especially moving images that speak...fool a great many people. And it seems if you don't watch the news or pay any attention to all the ads etc then you are just deemed ignorant.

It was. 70AD

He was also telling them to flee when it happened.

He is not telling us here now to flee, since we don't even live in Jerusalem. lol

Sure, but there was an ending; an ending of a covenant. How do you understand Matthew 16:28?

Matthew 16:28 KJVS
Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom.

I think it is talking about the resurrection, 40 days Jesus visited them in his glorified form, and the ascension to heaven.

“Kingdom” is defined as Royalty, so this is “coming in his royalty”, or in his glorified form. Which was his resurrected form ,as John points out.

John 7:39 KJVS
(But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified).

Prophecy is difficult, some is very plain other is not. Anyone that thinks they understand it completely, probably don’t. The disciples and apostles didn’t understand the prophecies of Jesus until after the resurrection when Jesus visited with them for 40 days and explained the prophecies concerning him.

The reason I asked is because people speak of the first and second comings of Jesus, but if you do not see His coming in the verse as one of those comings, then there are more than 2 comings. So if there are more than 2, how many are there?

There is no earthly structure/place that God will consider holy, the earthly temple was destroyed, believers are now the temple since His spirit dwells in the believer.
