Is hell forever?

Thinking about some things pastors have said and listening to SafetySuit and stuff for the past week, I started thinking that hell can't last forever. It seems so wrong. It's so weird to think that people are going to be dead forever. I don't see how or why God would make hell last forever.

hell is simply where the dead go.

the state of the soul depends on where the person goes at judgment day. those who put their faith in Jesus will receive immortality when He returns and puts death under His feet.
Those who have continually rejected Jesus will not receive immortality, and will suffer the second death.

the belief that all souls, whether saved or not, are immortal does not originate within Christianity. It originates from a 2nd century heresy called Gnosticism.

Okay so if I get it right, when unsaved people die they go to hell and then on judgment day they just stop existing

It's easy if you go back to the beginning. What did God have in mind when he put Adam and Eve here on earth in the first place? What did he tell them to do? How long was it going to take them to "fill the earth and subdue it"? People in the Bible's record did not have children until they had lived a long time. Aging was a slow process closer to the perfection that the first humans once enjoyed. Noah for example, was 500 years old before he had children! They lived much longer than we do now.

The fact is, humans were never designed for death...it wasn't supposed to happen. Once we are here it is impossible for us to comprehend a time when we would not exist. But what was the penalty that God imposed on Adam and his wife for their disobedience? Did God tell them that they would exist in punishment somewhere else? Or did he simply tell them that they would die and go back to the dust from which they were created? If there was a hell for the wicked, then Adam certainly deserved to go there, but that is not what God told him. He simply said he would die and go back where they came from.

Where were you before your parents conceived you? You did not exist. When you die you return to that state, but God promises to remember his faithful ones in the resurrection. He alone can restore the 'soul' or person to life.

Adam was not 'given' a soul but "became" one when God breathed life into him. There is no immortal soul that survives the death of the body. The Bible does not teach this at all. It teaches resurrection...a raising back to life on earth for the majority of mankind. (John 5:28, 29)

Those who are "chosen" to be "kings and priests" with Jesus in heaven (Rev 20:6) are a small number (144,000) compared to those over whom they will rule on earth.

I don't believe that all Christians will go to heaven. Kings need subjects and Priests need sinners to intercede for. These co rulers are the only ones promised immortality like Jesus...which is not to be confused with everlasting life. These are two entirely different things. Do you know how they differ and why the difference is important?

See that part where everyone is forgotten really bothers me. I don't know it just seems wrong.

I keep hearing this concept about the soul being burned up in hell....

I thought this seemed really weird because I was always taught hell was eternal. So I got curious and found this stuff below. I think it is eternal. I think if the soul was burned up it would be too easy. Too much of a copout for unbelievers. They could easily just say "ahhh who cares if I'm wrong about God and he is real then my soul will just get burned up and I won't suffer forever anyway". So I could see that being a weird but logical argument for say an atheist. But No I think it is eternal from what I'm looking at and have been told. It's such a scary thought.

I mean realistically regardless of anything else if we could somehow better understand how long that is then I'm sure people would be way more concerned about there eternal soul, salvation and there Christian walk. I think it's because we can't understand it that people backslide or neglect there walk and stuff like that. But we also live in an age were values and morals have gone out the window. People think it's okay to do anything in life, and if you judge them for it your the bad one for making any judgement calls. Kinda sad what this world is coming to.

The destruction is eternal, not "torment".

The punishment of eternal fire is death.

Black darkness is death.

The devil will probably burn for awhile, but he will be brought to nothing. Eze 28:18,19

For everyone concerned, the above post is a statement of first class deception because of a false understanding about death and eternal damnation. Those that think according to this statement have a false understanding about sin, about the soul, about death and the grave, about angelic beings and especially about the justice of God and what God accomplished through His Son on the cross. The above thinking is very dangerous and should be avoided especially by new believers. This man does not have the same gospel that we have been given in the scriptures and through the Spirit. If there are those that want to ascribe to this false way of thinking, that God hates by the way, then you will be caught in a snare that will be very difficult to be freed from. So do not ascribe in any way to this false way and flee from it as fast as you can. God will deal with this man and those that ascribe to the same false way they adhere to and teach.

Heaven=new earth (where all Christians spend etenity)
Hell=lake of fire (where all unsaved go forever)
Bottomless pit (where satan and his minions go forever)
