As a Believer - some like to use the term Christian - the Scriptures are my reason for believing to begin with. Therefore, it stands to reason that they should play a prominent role in my life. I should look to them for counsel and wisdom on how to believe and how to behave. Is this not so? Well, when I look to the Scriptures I notice verses like Proverbs 6:16-19, and must ask myself, Does God mean this? Verse 16 says, “These six things the Lord hates, Yes, seven are an abomination to Him. In verses 17 and 18 he begins the list of things and concludes in verse 19 with, “A false witness who speaks lies, And one who sows discord among brethren.” (NKJV) Again, does God mean this? Philippians 2:1-2 says, “Therefore if there is any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and mercy, fulfill my joy by being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.” (NKJV) So, if any of this Scripture stuff is true, should we be striving to bring unity or disunity? Harmony or disharmony? What say YOU? In His Grace.

We should be about God's idea of unity not man's idea......man says we should all just get along and if you believe such and such it's ok....so long as we don't rock each other's boat.....I don't believe God has the same definition ;)

I think he means unity amongst Christians, not unity with the world... in which case, yeah, God wants us to be striving towards unity

Do you mean "really" as in "Am I really American" or "really" as in "Do you really disagree with me?"

In answer: Yes, you are really American, and no, I don't really disagree with you... or do I?

Give an example of sowing discord among the brethren so that people can understand what you are driving at. Then give an example of unity (being of one accord) and the application of that unity in the body of Christ. There are several places in the book of Acts that demonstrates, 'being of one accord'.

The first thing to remember is that ALL are MEMEBERS of one BODY, that being Christ's.
Secondly, no, it is not wrong for Christians to disagree. Disagreements will always happend because of satan sending a spirit of deception to cause unbelief, confusion, and religiosity. Therefore, DEBATE is what ensues. Without debate, those that are being affected by an oppression of confusion, disbelief, misunderstanding, or even lack of knowledge will remain in the muck and mire of that condition. Debate can bring teaching and understanding. But it should be always done with love towards a brother or sister and, ideally, prayer for it to be received. If a humble, teachable heart is doing the debate or 'teaching' and can be proven that what they have said is not Biblically correct, then that person can and should go to the cross, confess the incorrect teaching as sin, accept forgiveness and move on. The evidence of a teachable heart is that when a person receives correction on a discussion group format, they publicly concede, and are greatful for the new revelation.

I would believe the unity job is on the Father to do as Jesus was making this prayer to the Father.

John 17:11And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are. 12While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled. 13And now come I to thee; and these things I speak in the world, that they might have my joy fulfilled in themselves. 14I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. 15I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil. 16They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. 17Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. 18As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world. 19And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth. 20Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; 21That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. 22And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one: 23I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me. 24Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world.

If we are likeminded in Christ, then keeping the faith will insure that unity.
