I'm still interested in all this applying to kids. We decide based on our experience and knowledge and personal likes. How do we go around with the children? Do we impose on them the habit of Harry Potter? Do we let them decide by themselves what they want to read or watch? Do we decide for them?

As a parent, you decide for them. If you think Harry Potter is something they shouldn't read then as much as it's in your power you don't let them read it and you explain to them why. You explain to your children as much as possible and when they're adults then they get to decide for themselves. Parents are the gatekeepers.

I think it's very difficult, being a parent. But you've summed it up, at the end, once they are adults, they decide for themselves. When they're adults they can have the discussions we're having right now

if i was a parent, I wouldn't let my kid see it. Does that make harry Potter wrong? Well, there are some movies i might watch that i wouldn't want my kids watching, but that does not mean that those are wrong( like i dunno certain horror movies).

I think Harry Potter can be impressionable on little minds, but also I think it's a parents respnsibility to teach their kids first and foremost the difference between right and wrong so they won't take certain aspects of fiction too seriously.

I mean gosh i thought that was common sense( I'm addressing people on here in general, not you torotoro ^_^). It's the difference between kids who play fighting games and go around punching kids in the face and kids who play fighting games and don't do that kidna thing, because they know it's wrong OR they know their parents will whoop them if they punch someone in the face.

I definitely agree that it's hard being a parent, especially in these days. I don't have kids yet so I can't say I have first-hand knowledge. You pray and you trust in Jesus and His word. That's the most important.

I just skimmed through this and what I watch/read/listen to etc., has been on my mind lately. We could go on and on about why it's bad or isn't bad to read Harry Potter books. Without going into all that you should think to yourself all the forms of childhood entertainment that involve magic and/or fantasy. Do you think these are wrong? I'm not implying anything either way, I'm just mentioning that if you're going to make such statements that imply that any Christian who does____(Insert form of entertainment/media/anything that can be consumed in anyway) is either not really a Christian or isn't a "good" Christian, you should examine yourself and what you do first. I think you'll find that there's a lot that you need to examine before you make such brash judgments.

When I discuss with people my thoughts (that I've had very recently actually) about listening to certain types of music and being involved in things of the world I don't make a judgment or say "well if you listen to that song you're a HEATHEN, be gone!." The idea of these discussions is find out how we can be the most Christlike and glorify God in this fallen world recognizing our weaknesses. When we discuss with others it should be not to condemn, not to judge, but to HELP them. When we judge and/or condemn people, it tends to be out of weakness and insecurity and most of us, if not all, are guilty of it. It's one thing to point out sin that is explicit in the Bible, or even if we're pretty sure that one's behavior isn't Christilike. That said, correction out of love is a lot different than judgment. Who are you to tell someone they're not a good enough Christian?

With all the above said, I have read the Harry Potter books and I simply saw them as fantasy. Nonetheless, I can see the argument for not reading them.

Matthew 7:1
Joh 14:15If ye love me, keep my commandments.
Joh 15:8Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.Joh 15:9As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love.Joh 15:10If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love.Joh 15:11These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.Joh 15:12This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.

Do we love people by letting them do harmful things or do we warn them that they could get hurt, A famous preacher Veron Mcgee once said that we are not to be judges but we can be fruit inspectors. so if one is producing the wrong kind of Fruit and this is sought which is right and wrong from scriptures not a personal opinion, then we should warn them, I grew up with the land of oz, but I was told it was wrong, we are not telling the kids what is right and wrong any more, we are letting them be their own Judge , but with this the problem is They do not have the Word of God in them., when a big brother or big sister tells their little siblings yeah go ahead I read it there is nothing wrong with it , then your sibling falls into it so deep they never come out of it, it becomes their religion, Then you'll, oh please God I don't want I sibling to burn in hell, please deliver them from this witchcraft stuff, if they never turn to God and away from it, then you do we blame for it, GOD????

Thaddeus, that's what I said. I said judging people is different Thaddeus. Explaining to someone their sin out of love is right, but as I've seen in this thread that hasn't been the case. Judging someone and condemning someone, especially with the big log in your own eye, is a big difference. I don't think we see things differently here Thaddeus.

How old is your daughter? It doesn;t matter. You act like it is a joke that you let her watch that satanic garbage, you ought to be ashamed of it.

Note to self. ignore any of SamIam's opinions on christianity.

It's a work of fiction meant to be intertaining. It's not real. Don't worry. If a child reads V for Vandetta or Watchmen I doubt they would suddenly adopt the beleifs illustrated into them and begin waving knives at police officers or pushing people of buildings.

Seems there's a very evil spirit on this board. So many jokes? It's as if Satan's minions try to destroy anything worthwhile being said. Answering scripture with mockery is ok? I read where some have used scripture to put forth their point. Others however, have used jokes. As a reader, I am now convinced to stay away from witchcraft entertainment. I just don't understand how those on here that love it so much, that they portray themselves as mockers of someone who sticks to the scriptures with bitterness. Yea, even attempting to validate their veiws without the Word.

Mitke: I'm sorry you've been so offended by some of the light comments on this discussion. I don't think anyone meant to offend, I think the guys who are joking around are just having fun. We serve a God who likes laughter :) I don't think that it means that there is an evil spirit on the board. Its just that sometimes being serious one hundred percent of the time can be a bit of a downer, so its ok to make light of situations once in awhile. And i think this is the perfect opportunity to do so- as its not attacking anyone personally, but were only discussing an issue.

Also, I wasn't trying to disregard scripture by not quoting it as Soldier did, I was just on the run and didn't have my bible next to me in order to quote like that. I'm sorry if it upset you.

But anyway, I hope you realize no one was trying to be irreverant.
God bless :)

Theres a time and place for everything, it just seemed bitter to me. Hardly the laughter you would expect God to be amused with. They've convinced me to stay away from that stuff that you find pleasure in.

I aslo wanted to make sure that you knew that I wasnt offended, so theres no need to appologize. I read the warnings posted backed by scripture and I read the opinions and jokes. I've made my decision to beleive the posts backed by scripture. Thanks to those with the informative posts. Keep up the good work guys.
