May I suggest for a change of background in the Filipino room? I think it gives a poor impression on what the Philippines is like. It is not such a backward, primitive place with mostly farmers. We have very progressive and urbanized cities as well as amazing tourist destinations it's like seeing the world in one country.
Thanks for considering :)

Umm.. but since its a room only for Filipino's, then who is it giving a poor impression to?
Also, the site owner, and man who chose that pic, is also from the Philippines. So i'm guessing he has a fair concept of what they country is like. heh.

Chat room, yes, not in the forums. Top right of the chat rooms has a listing of all available rooms on the site.

I disagree. There were times I went in there and other nationalities went too. So it's not like only Filipinos go there.
Also, there are many other sceneries that portray progress like cities or beauty like our many tourist destinations.
Perhaps it's been a long long time since he's been here :)

Personally i doubt the small handful of people on a Christian chat site that aren't Filipino that may make it itno the Philippino are getting their views of what the Philpines are like based off the background picture of the chat site.
And besides, isn't farming a part of the country? Is it really such a big deal to be that concerned? It is a part of the country, its not a misrepresentation.

My view is mostly based on the fact that I experienced people coming up to me, asking "Are there malls in the Philippines?", "Isnt the Philippines mainly just farmlands and forests?" and "Are there even live band music there?" You are right, agriculture is a big part of the country which is why we export a lot of produce to other countries. By stating my suggestion, my point is that there is more to our country than domestic helpers (which is how a dictionary defines the word Filipino), farmers, poverty, and primitivity and I wanted to get that message across even just through a simple background photo especially to those who may think otherwise. If that picture did not give you such impression, then well and good.

I don't understand why you are so embarrassed about it. Americans are fairly ignorant of the world outside of their own. Don't get all worked up about it.

So, you think farming is the opposite of progress? Why does a nation have to be materialistic to be acceptable?

Like i said, the point of my suggestion is not because I view farming as the opposite of progress or anything negative because in fact, my father who is a retired Doctor is into agriculture, exporting Cavendish bananas. I also do not mean suggesting the use of pictures that imply materialism to replace whats existing. I mentioned the word primitive as that is, again, based on experience, impressions of some about the Philippines and/or Filipinos for that matter.
I know it does not seem to makes sense, why I suggest this no matter how I try to explain -again, without insisting. That is because, unless you are a Filipino who has seen, heard, and experienced such sorts of discrimination and "put downs" in general, you'll never really know and understand what it is like.

Nevertheless, if the background does remain as it is, so be it. I am just suggesting because, after all, I am a Filipino.
I am not embarassed as a basis for suggesting. I hope I have explained enough.
