Is a child a "gift from God" when concieved out of fornication? Something that is also sinful?

Yes, the child is a gift from God. But the fornication was wrong! When this happens, the child does not say, "Oh, I am going to be born because

someone raped my mother and make life difficult for her.'' That simply would not happen, when people start thinking of children as beings that cost a lot

of money to take care of, then that can only lead downhill to saying, "Well the elderly people in nursing homes are not doing any work for the United

States, therefore their lives should be terminated.'' Should the woman have a choice to abort the child? No (especially if she is a Christian) because it is

murder, when fetuses are killed, blood is shed, that is what the Bible calls murder. Maybe I do understand how women think and feel in this situation, but

abortion should never be an option. The first option that should be discussed before doing something that they will regret, is adoption, foster care, etc.

Then mention all the facts (both those that the popular culture espouses and what they do not) about abortion. That would help. Then they can decide

and hopefully make the right God-honoring choice.

P.S. Sadly, many of the ''liberal'' media take the words of someone they are against out of context and out of order. That is why I look at the sources that are not part of this form of the media and read WORLD magazine to get a balanced view on these issues and the pros and cons of both sides through a Christian worldview and independent thinking.

Blood is also shed when she has a period....and it prevents that particular egg from ever becoming a child- is that not murder as well?

We trim our lawns, living cells- yet that is not considered murder.

We eat meat. We eat plants. Yet not murder..... why?

Blood is also shed when she has a period....
The definition of bloodshed he is using is that of the taking of life, as far as I can tell.

From Webster:
: the shedding of blood
2
: the taking of life : slaughter

There is bloodshed in the sense of shedding of blood during a woman's period, yes.

Also from Webster:
chiefly dialect : to set apart : segregate
2
: to cause to be dispersed without penetrating <duck's plumage sheds water>
3
a : to cause (blood) to flow by cutting or wounding
b : to pour forth in drops <shed tears>
c : to give off or out <sheds some light on the subject>
4
: to give off, discharge, or expel from the body of a plant or animal: as
a : to eject, slough off, or lose as part of the normal processes of life <a caterpillar shedding its skin> <a cat shedding hair> <a deciduous tree sheds its leaves in the fall>
b : to discharge usually gradually especially as part of a pathological process <shed a virus in the feces>
5
: to rid oneself of temporarily or permanently as superfluous or unwanted <shed her inhibitions> <the company shed 100 jobs>
[/quote]

and it prevents that particular egg from ever becoming a child- is that not murder as well?
No, it is not unjustified killing.

We trim our lawns, living cells- yet that is not considered murder.
No it is not, because although the plant cells are killed, it is not unjustified killing.

We eat meat. We eat plants. Yet not murder..... why?
God has said we can eat meat and plants.

Murder is unjustified killing, not all killing is unjustified.

That fact that some are considering the mowing of a lawn as on the same level as abortion, speaks enough about how far respect for human life has fallen.

As a christian (male OR female), my body is not my own to do with as I will, nor is any life God is choosing to create inside of it. I didn't create my body. How can it be mine? Especially since I now belong to Christ, and it has been bought with a very high price and is to be a living sacrifice to God per these scriptures:

Romans 12:1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God--this is your spiritual act of worship.

Philippians 1:20 I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed, but will have sufficient courage so that now as always Christ will be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death.

1 Corinthians 6: Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body

Having said that, Mr. Mourdock's words were among the most foolish I have ever heard from the mouth of a politician. Indiana messed up big time by replacing Sen Lugar with this guy.

One of my older stepsisters was raped and raised the child. The child is now a godly woman raising children of her own in the ways of the Lord. I have also cared for victims of rape and have extreme compassion. But I still don't believe our bodies are our own to do with as we please. Whatever we do in ANY situation with our bodies should first and foremost honor God, regardless of our personal feelings, as we do not and cannot see the big picture.

I also realize that not all walking the face of the earth believe as I do, but God made them too. I don't have the right to tell them what to do, but he does...and has. When a person refuses to accept Truth, it does not negate the Truth.

If the idiot murdock would have said, "A child is a gift from God, & if the rape victim does not want the child, she can give it up for adoption", there would not have been national media coverage, I don't think. He DID win the election because he explained that he didn't mean that rape was an act of God, only that the Child's life was a gift that shouldn't be aborted.
If you don't want the baby, let it be adopted. Have you ever seen pictures of aborted babies?
It sure looks like a human to me. It bleeds red blood.
It has dna. It cries too. I know nurses who cradled a baby that fit inside their hand & tried to comfort a crying abortion.
I have friends who had to wait 10 yrs to adopt.

maybe the mowan doesnt want to wreck her body with the pregnancy i mean...it isnt the kidest on the female form to have a child. Especially one that unwanted...

This is one of the few instances that I could care less what the Scipture says, and totally disagree with it. I do respect everyone's opinions though, that is what make these forums so nice, we get a variety of thoughts on the forums.

thanks for the info. Sorry. I heard he won. he shouldn't have won. He spoke like an idiot.

what would be the foundation of your belief/religion, if it is not the Bible? I don't get it. I don't tell other people what to do either. But as a mother, I spent a whole lot of YEARS putting myself last for the sake of my children. If a woman can't even give 9 months of her time to allow the child to live, then give the baby up for adoption, then whoa.. hard for me to comprehend.God forgives sins. But even if you ARE NOT a Chrstian, you should be able to be inconvienienced for 9 months to allow an innocent child to have it's right to live. I think it's all about selfishness.

What if the woman is not Christian say a Hindu or Muslim must they meet the Christian standard, why? How about if she is an atheist?

btw jimmydiggs I am very offended at that cartoon drawing

the cartoon graphic tells us nothing about Genesis and when a fetus is a human being. You obviously have not thought for two seconds about that verse and what it means. Frankly I am fed up with males telling women what they can and cannot do with their bodies. The doctor patient relationship should be protected from the government at all costs

the cartoon is jimmy smacking himself in the forehead... because he is frustrated by your post regarding genesis.
I tend to agree with Jimmy that God breathing into Adams nostrils while at the begining of creation is a very poor argument. If this line of reason were to stand alone as you used in the post then God would still be forming new people out of dirt and ribs and dropping them off in assorted places in the world. God indeed breathed into Adams nostrils... this was the FIRST man and woman... in creating them he also set in motion the biological reproductive process. Rape is a violent assault upon a woman... the pregnancy is the result of the timing of the reproductive process which is in operation all the time. Politicians who make sweeping statements that "legitimate rape" causes no pregnancy are saying that they believe God suspends the biological process ofa rape victim so she cannot become pregnant... that is just not true.. all intercourse rape or otherwise has a $ chance of resulting in pregnancy. The principal under scrutiny here is WHEN does life begin. I beleive life begins at the moment of conception... regardless of how that conception occurred. Thus i am also offended by the fertility and science industry who make concieve persons in a test-tube and then destroy them for lack of a womb or to harvest stem cells.

The standards of christians should never be their own. That wouldn't be high enough. God has expectations of all of us, whether we are christians or not.

Proverbs 14:12 There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death

Since Jesus had to die for me, I don't like to talk about what is fair. I was deserving of death. Everything I am now or have now is blessing and mercy.

Plain and simple this is a rough subject. I dont think that should ever happen to anyone but i'm not God. I would hope I never ever have to deal with this. I know Abortion is wrong but still I wouldn't want that in my life no way no how.

This is true, however why don't you hold yourselves to Allah's standards? After all, his standards are the highest for Muslims. It's all a perspective. You believe you're right, or else you wouldn't believe that. However, not everyone believes the EXACT same as you.

Which is better? Blue or Green? Vanilla or Chocolate? English or Spanish? You have your own opinions on these matters, however not everyone will agree with you because of what God has told them. Hence why we have different denominations even within our own religion. Which one is right? They can't ALL be right. God' word is interpreted in each denomination a different way, yet we claim "oh, it's ok bc they're all Christians". They can't be right and interpret the Bible and say "You're not allowed to interpret the Bible your way." Hypocrisy.

No one is forcing anyone to Not have an abortion if they want to., that's their decision. We are just pointing out that as Christians, & this is a Christian website, abortion is the murder of a child.( Dna) Hence violation of the 10 commandments & definition by Jesus himself of what people are burning in the Lake of fire=murderers. No one is stopping you, it's just in the Bible. Once you start picking & choosing which verses you like & don't like in the Bible & which ones you will obey, I think you have just created your own religion, cult, spin off, etc. It's not even a misinterpretation or doctrinal difference. But do whatever you want, no one is ever changing the law. I'm not judging or trying to stop anyone.

You quoted my post, but it doesn't seem that you actually read it.

1. I don't know allah
2. Please post where I said I hold myself to God's standards. I made very it clear in MY post that while God has expectations of us ALL, I am relying upon His grace and mercy, as I am incapable of rising to His expectations without Christ, like everyone else. To believe otherwise would, indeed, be hypocrisy.
3. I don't know what provoked your rant re: denominations. I mentioned none, spoke against none and do not personally accept denominations.
4. I have no idea whether I'm right or not, but I know He is.

I think it would be an excellent idea to refrain from future unprovoked personal attacks. They edify no one. :)

Still it seems that Christians are applying their own standards to people of any and all faiths. How is that a fair thing?

Celeste, I appreciate that you are willing to examine the issue further.
Christians are to be in agreement with what God says about any issue, which is why we are to "study to show ourselves approved unto God rightly dividing the word of truth". The purpose for studying isn't so we can argue about theology... it is to learn God's principals for living... and then to conform our lives according to that pattern. Scripture tells us "Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will", as our mind is renewed our decisions, priorities and assorted "works" begin to reflect God principals to the world as a witness. God is not concerned about "offending" someone else's religious ideas, or fairness, he is about holiness and righteousness and so should we. We can "fear" man or "fear" God. Ultimately there is only ONE dividing line regarding what is right and wrong applied to any issue under the sun, that line divides what God says about any subject and what man has contrived for himself. I have said this in another thread, it can be emotionally and intellectually traumatizing in the renewing your mind process... when you come to a place where you discover "x idea" that has been a fundamental basis for many choices in your life is in opposition to the word of God... a struggle between the flesh to reject God and the spirit to agree with God can be difficult. Only by study, prayer and accountable fellowship can a believer grow to maturity.
