AN EXAMINATION OF THE WORD-FAITH MOVEMENT by Richard J. Vincent

"You don't have a god in you, you are one."(1)

"Pray to yourself, because I'm in your self and you're in Myself. We are one Spirit, saith the Lord."(2)

"I say this with all respect so that it don't upset you too bad, but I say it anyway. When I read in the Bible where he [Jesus] says, 'I Am,' I just smile and say, 'Yes, I Am, too!'"(3)

What group would say such outrageous things? What group would have the nerve to perpetuate such blasphemous doctrines? Could it be the Jehovah's Witnesses? the Mormons? the Unitarians? the New Agers? Could it be—the Christians?

The Word-Faith Teachers

The Word-Faith Teachers. This is the group that would seek to convince us that Jesus and His disciples were rich, that to be poor is a sin, to be sick is a sin, and that faith is a creative force that we can use to shape our world just like God supposedly created this world and universe that we live in through His "faith"!

Kenneth Hagin, Kenneth Copeland, Paul Crouch, John Avanzini, Robert Tilton, Fred Price, and Benny Hinn (who at the time of this writing has authored the number one best selling Christian book in America, "Good Morning, Holy Spirit") are just a few that spew out this theological vomit.

Satan is a sly little devil. He inserts so many little lies of different types so he can turn what is from God into many different sects. And force the true children of God to expose them, and in doing so causing the world to wonder why Christians can;t get along. And also keeping so many from the true gospel of Christ, and following all the different half gospels of christ (half truth half lie) and making them think they will get to heaven, when in reality they are no more saved than the person who claims to be an athiest.

Sad sad world we live in.

Demons are behind it and enjoy it, God allows it and gets the Glory when we are conformed to the image of Jesus as a result. There are a few I am going to want to drag around a bit behind that white horse Jesus promises to those who overcome in all things. I have one in Jesus' name.
you have what in Jesus' name?

ya ya....BUT
what IF He says NO?
2 Corinthians 1:20

New King James Version (NKJV)

20 For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us.
1 John 5:14-15
New King James Version (NKJV)

14 Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. 15 And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.
John 15:7-8

New King James Version (NKJV)

7 If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will[a] ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. 8 By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.

you're over the top jude.
stop it.
we can dump this whole stew you've got going overboard in one day if needed.
we'll just trace it to it's roots.
A family friend with a large ministry to the Indians in the mountains of Mexico has a saying: "I am not out of my mind, just out of yours". They have seen the dead raised over 300 times and every part of the body healed or recreated. See what I mean? I am quite tame compared to him.

You seem to be acting like a good little Greek.

1 Corinthians 1:21-25

New King James Version (NKJV)

21 For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through wisdom did not know God, it pleased God through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe. 22 For Jews request a sign, and Greeks seek after wisdom; 23 but we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a stumbling block and to the Greeks[a] foolishness, 24 but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. 25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.

2 Corinthians 2:15-17

New King James Version (NKJV)

15 For we are to God the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing. 16 To the one we are the aroma of death leading to death, and to the other the aroma of life leading to life. And who is sufficient for these things? 17 For we are not, as so many,[a] peddling the word of God; but as of sincerity, but as from God, we speak in the sight of God in Christ.

your situation is in the Bible? that's odd....it was finished a long time before you were born, man.
Corinthians 10:13

New King James Version (NKJV)
13 No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.

ok, so God makes it so we can chose to not fall to temptation, but to chose to walk away from it.

what does this have to do with healing and wealth??

The Bible clearly gives the reasons and that healing is promised.

Demon possession/oppression can be a cause of sickness. Jesus cast out many demons and the result was healing. See also 2 Corinthians 7:1 for Christians needing deliverance.

Sin is how sickness came into the world so it follows that if a believer sins and refuses all correction from God then He can chasten with sickness. Repentance brings healing.
The healing of the sickness, not the sickness, is for the glory of God. John 9:1-3

Christians can be ill and stay ill from ignorance of the healing Jesus provided in the atonement.

Everyone gets the measure of faith from God but it is the believers responsibility to grow and exercise that faith (Romans 10:17 and Jude 20). If that responsibility is not met healing can be elusive. God can allow it to send that message of our responsibility if all else fails.

They can stay ill because they do not know what Bible faith is Hebrews 11, or how to put it to work James 2:18-26, Mark 11:24, 1 John 5:14-15 to receive healing. No one gets ANYTHING from God unless they exercise Bible faith praying according to His revealed will not "if it be thy will".

Sickness can simply be a trial to defeat the devil, glorify God, and refine the believer's faithfulness and character (see James 1:2-4, 1 Peter 1:6-7) which is why there is often a period of time between asking and receiving by faith and the manifestation of the healing (Mark 11:24).
Christians get sick and stay sick for abusing their bodies. Praying over ones food is VERY important for obvious reasons. It keeps us safe from all the "stuff" in it.
Disobedience, unforgiveness, the negative things we say about ourselves, wanting to be sick to use it for control, sympathy, a hobby, ect.; involvement in the occult by Christians i.e. horoscope, ouija board, "white" witchcraft, fortunetelling, magic practices, water witching (water divining), Eastern religion like yoga all can and do result in getting sick and staying sick.
There is a culture or climate of unbelief that is in the churches which hinders those who want to trust Jesus for healing by faith from doing so and hinders the work of healing miracles by the Holy Spirit.
Word of Faith Movement History
Brief History of the Word of Faith Movement

".....Listening to Word of Faith movement preachers talk, an uninformed Christian might think they have been missing out on some great secret all their life.

In fact, many Word of Faith (WOF) beliefs bear more resemblance to the New Age bestseller The Secret than to the Bible. It's no stretch to substitute WOF's "positive confession" with The Secret's affirmations, or the Word of Faith idea that humans are "little gods" with the New Age notion that humans are divine.

The Word of Faith movement, commonly known as "name it and claim it," "the prosperity gospel," or the "health and wealth gospel" is preached by several television evangelists. In a nutshell, the prosperity gospel says God wants his people to be healthy, wealthy, and happy all the time.

Word of Faith Movement Founders

Evangelist E.W. Kenyon (1867-1948) is considered by many to be the founder of Word of Faith teaching. He began his career as a Methodist minister but later moved into Pentecostalism. Researchers disagree on whether Kenyon was influenced by Gnosticism and New Thought, a belief system that holds God will grant health and success.

Most scholars agree, however, that Kenyon was an influence on Kenneth Hagin Sr., often called the father or "granddaddy" of the Word of Faith movement. Hagin (1917-2003) believed that it is God's will that believers would always be in good health, financially successful, and happy.

Hagin, in turn, was an influence on Kenneth Copeland, who worked briefly as a co-pilot for TV evangelist Oral Roberts. Roberts' healing ministry promoted "seed faith": "Have a need? Plant a seed." The seeds were cash donations to Roberts' organization. Copeland and his wife Gloria founded Kenneth Copeland Ministries in 1967, based in Fort Worth, Texas...."

Im not an expert on why . But I know people have to do this God's way. The Bible says to 'anoint with oil' . I know how to do this. And I have asked for healing. As far as I was able to tell ; for healing I did not receive totally what I wanted. But maybe I did not try good enough. Other times I have used it. And It dose work against evil spirits and people possessed in Christ name and authority of course . Same with healing it has to be done in Christ name. The oil doesn't do anything but its The Heavenly Father, in Christ name that does it. The oil only shows your obedience to do it His way, and that your aware of how God wants it done.

Because you asked for healing and you did not get totally healed, that doesn't mean nothing happened. And It doesn't mean you shouldn't try again. Because its true what Christ said

"I give you power over all your enemies " . So we can heal and cast out evil spirits , But Christ is the one that dose it in His name. I remember we need to have faith ; without doubting . I would just try again , and don't give up.

I will give you three.
Our daughter had a terminal liver disorder at 11 months.
I have the documentation, still.
The pediatrician called me every day to ask how I was doing. (I was pregnant for our third.)
We prayed,in faith, and many others did, too.
She got married last summer, in perfect health, at age 28.

Our son had an AVM, which ruptured and caused a stroke when he was 19.
We asked the Lord to heal him, as the docs said he'd be paralyzed on his left side as a result.
He is drumming again (with TWO hands), and walking normally, and attending college (though a bit late) now at 24. This is more recent. I have the papers from the hospital, and the words treasured in my heart of the medical folks saying, "Well, we don't like to use the word 'miracle', but...". This bleed happened one mm from his 'logic and reason' center of the frontal lobe.

Our fifth born had the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck three times. In the medical community it's known as 'the hangman's noose'. Our OB 'just happened' to be a fellow believer, and she said we should pray before she ruptured the amniotic sac, and we did. She later said Hannah should never have survived birth, but she did. I consider that miraculous.

I have an autoimmune disease. With that same faith, we have asked the Lord to make me well.
It's been 18 years, and we still ask. I still have that same condition.

What do you make of that? What sin am I committing...how shall I increase my faith, so the Lord will do what I want?
Those are wonderful testimonies of the goodness of God and they are miraculous and real and from Him. There is nothing you can do to increase your faith. If God's walked by and had compassion upon you I am sure that you would be healed because you have never doubted and stopped believing Him for your condition. I would never want to do anything to discourage you from believing God for all things, especially those things that are impossible with and for man. Even with that said there are those that do live in unbelief and limit God, the Holy One of Israel, and do not receive grace or respond by faith to the word that is sent to heal them. They are occupied with other things and when Jesus passes by they miss their divine appointment with the Master and with their divine Healer, the great Physician.

. There are a few I am going to want to drag around a bit behind that white horse Jesus promises to those who overcome in all things. I have one in Jesus' name.
This horse?

Then I saw when the Lamb broke one of the seven seals, and I heard one of the four living creatures saying as with a voice of thunder, “Come[a].” 2 I looked, and behold, a white horse, and he who sat on it had a bow; and a crown was given to him, and he went out conquering and to conquer.

You know most people assume this is the antichrist, right?

nah he's referring to this one:

Revelation 19:14
And the armies in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, followed Him on white horses.

however wanting drag people behind it doesn't sound to Christ like....

In mark 13 Christ gives the 7 identical seals . The first seal is a rider on a white horse, the first warning or sign Christ gives is deception and a false C.
The word ''bow'' used means ''cheap imitation'' in the Greek. And along with the rest of Rev, it backs up that its the anti-C. Just wanted to share.

It was in answer to this statement. Situation meaning what you need from God and ask for. healing for sickness. Read temptation as trial allowed by God for our good and His glory. Read 1 Corinthians 10:1-12 for what temptation refers to.The Israelites refused to ask and believe God and gave in to their carnal desires, fears, etc. Numbers 11:4-5 and Numbers 13:32-33, Numbers 14:1-4
When people give in to fear of physical symptoms they do not wait for God's healing or even Go to God at all for what He promises.

never read of Jesus dragging demons behind white horses either, just thought casting them into an everlasting fire would be enough.

Jude 1:9
Yet Michael the archangel, in contending with the devil, when he disputed about the body of Moses, dared not bring against him a reviling accusation, but said, “The Lord rebuke you!”

Here is how the Bible says faith comes:
Romans 10:17

New King James Version (NKJV)

17 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

And using your prayer language i.e. tongues you received with the Acts 2:4 experience:

Jude 1:20
New King James Version (NKJV)20 But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit,
We use the Bible on tape or CD and played it for our children and ourselves. We put a Bible tape in for them at bedtime and us too.
I prayed for a woman with terminal cancer and gave her about 20 scriptures to read daily from Matthew where Jesus healed all that came to Him. She was healed and cancer free within weeks.
A young boy had very severe asthma and his medicine caused a yeast infection so he could not eat properly. He was skin and bones. We prayed for healing and his mother folded up pieces of paper with healing scriptures on them and put them in a bowl. They "took" them like medicine which Proverbs says they are. Totally healed and still is in his 30's.
We cast out a spirit of infirmity in each case.

I am pretty confident that your prayer is that God be glorified and that shows loud and clear in your testimony. Isn't that what the scripture says the purpose is... that God may be GLORIFIED?
