Get this straight iog and PS,
we will never give up our right to protect ourselves from tyrants.
Can you get that through your heads?
You two dictatorship affirmatives still haven't answered the question :
Why did Jesus tell his disciples to buy swords shortly before His death?
I posted about this earlier as well and made a comment about Iran and Syria to the effect that he who lives by the sword dies by the sword which is perfectly true as we can see.

All I can say is that if you want to be numbered among the dead you are going the right way about it.

Yes, I know.
Why was He quoting that passage from the old testament?
It was in fulfilment of prophesy. Jesus was pointing out that he was the promised Messiah and prophesy and its fulfilment was proof of that.

PS....i have a question for you....
do you hold to the dispensational view of eschatology?

i.e: that there is to be a 1,000 year earthly kingdom?

if you do, you are contributing to the sword that is crossing the world at this time.
if not, great. we are in agreement.

THE SEVEN DISPENSATIONS
C I Scofield

7. Man under the personal reign of Christ
After the purifying judgments which attend the personal return of Christ to the earth, He will reign over restored Israel and over the earth for one thousand years. This is the period commonly called the millennium. The seat of His power will be Jerusalem, and the saints, including the saved of the dispensation of grace, namely the church, will be associated with Him in His glory. (See Isa. 2:1-4; Isa. 11; Acts 15:14-17; Rev. 19:11-21; Rev. 20:1-6.

But when Satan is "loosed a little season," he finds the natural heart as prone to evil as ever, and easily gathers the nations to battle against the Lord and His saints, and this last dispensation closes, like all the others, in judgment. The great white throne is set, the wicked dead are raised and finally judged, and then come the "new heaven and a new earth." Eternity is begun. (See Rev. 20:3,7-15; Rev. 21 and 22.)

like i said...because of these beliefs, there is a carnal sword crossing the earth carving out a carnal kingdom.
so your cries of pacifism etc are hollow and anyone adhering to the above dispensational program has already spiritually contributed to all that killing.

if you need help with that, let me know.

It tells you at the top, it is a percentage of the population.

I'm not sure about the logic there, zero gun deaths would be best in my opinion.

I'm sorry I didn't notice the top.

Zero gun deaths would be ideal and wonderful yes. But unfortunatly we don't live in that world. As i've stated I don't own a gun. But if you are a law abiding citizen and you feel you need one for protection, then I feel you have the right to own one.

I may never own a guy. But if I ever do want one I will get trained and get it legally. Recently a paper in the US thought in light of what had happened in Conneticut it would be in the best interest of the people living in the Westchester area of NY that they should know who owns a gun. So they posted names and addresses of every legal law abiding citizen that owns a gun. One person was a woman who had moved because she was being stalked. She bought a gun for her protection. Well guess what the stalker is now stalking her again, because he found her. Another person who's name was printed, is a 70 year old man, he was robbed and guess what they took, his guns.

I'm not saying you are for the printing of citizens who own guns. This is just an example of what a gun owner has had to deal with in some parts of the USA. The people who printed the names were comparing these people with a mentally disturbed young man who played violent video games and killed babies and innocent people. You can lump everyone in the same group.

There are laws, should there be more, I guess. But if anyone out there wants to leagally purchase a gun to protect themselves and their families, you will get no flack from me.

That is a good link to Schofield, I wish I had known about it when I was writing my article.

If it is going to happen then it will, I don't know what we can do regarding what is predetermined, after all you are a Calvinist aren't you and believe in predestination. (Hint hint :) )

Well said.
As another fulfillment of prophecy that He stated on the cross - "My God, My God, why hast thou forsaken me?" - Psalms 22
Notice He did this at a certain time and place?(on the cross) To show that he was the fulfillment of the scripture(the suffering Lamb).
"Worthy is the Lamb who was slain".
Now, why do you think He siad what He did to the disciples at the time and place He said it? (In fulfillment of prophecy)
Because He was going away, and could not physically protect them any more from highway robbers and thieves with His miraculous power.
(Don't you think they met up with plenty of them on the road to Jericho?)
Widely accepted as a haunt trafficked by robbers. Full of crags and hiding places.
It was on this road that the one who was injured was helped by the good Samaritan.
Jesus gave a command to His followers shortly before His death, to arm themselves because He wouldn't be around anymore-
(physically on this earth), to miraculously save them.
This is the context of the fulfillment of this prophecy and this is the reason why He told them when He did.
And throughout history it has been true that the followers of God have had to defend themselves against evildoers.
Read up on the Muslim hoards that invaded europe. It was because of Christians that the Faith is alive today.
It is because of christians that your wife doesn't wear a burkah, it is because of christians that there is even a Bible.
(it never even could have been printed without Christian men standing against the Islamic assault.)
Read history.
Charles Martel(732AD), Jan Sobieski(1683), and others fought for the right to worship the God of the Bible in Spirit and in Truth.
There is a reason Jesus told His disciples to buy swords when He did.
It was fulfillment of prophecy, in that you are correct.

You are a sincere person and I respect your views but you see this latest massacre was committed by someone who stole the gun and my view is that if his mother hadn't had a gun those children may still be alive today. Neither has having a gun stopped the lady from being stalked. Anyway, I wish you all the best. x

OK. Two swords among 11 men in a country occupied by Roman soldiers and robbers of all descriptions and those 11 men who were to go their separate ways was no defence at all. If they were short (I forget what they are called but some are no longer than a knife) they may have used them in their work as fishermen?

Confessional Lutheran.

Initially Luther was well received among the chiliasts, who saw him as the harbinger of a new era and defender of the "new age," the age of the Spirit and of peace. However, Luther's reformation did not seek to transform society in preparation for the millennium, so he proved a disappointment to many of the more militant reformers such as Thomas Müntzer. Indeed, Luther rejected all endeavors to establish a kingdom of God on earth.

and for the calvin-haters:)

"But a little later there followed the chiliasts, who limited the reign of Christ to a thousand years. Now their fiction is too childish either to need or to be worth a refutation" (3.25.5). The number "one thousand" in Revelation 2:4 applied only to "various disturbances that awaited the church, while still toiling on earth" (3.25.5). Calvin chastised millennialists for casting reproach upon Christ and his Kingdom, and dismissed the doctrine as "stupid nonsense."

As I said, God helps.
Two short swords would be enough.
God used a fog embankment to help George Washington's ragtag army cross the Delaware river. They were surrounded by redcoats.
Without divine intervention the whole continental army would have had to surrender.
Do what you can, God does the rest.

"For the correct understanding of the Bible, and especially end-time prophecies, Israel and the church should be clearly distinguished from one another. The prophetic future of Israel as a people is fundamentally different to that of the church. Israel are restored to their land in unbelief where they will conclude a covenant with the false messiah and pass through the time of Jacob’s trouble under his reign. This will be a worldwide time of tribulation and divine judgements upon all unbelievers. A remnant of Israel will be saved from the seven-year distress when they see the true Messiah set foot on the Mount of Olives. After that, they will be the leading nation in the Messiah’s thousand-year reign of peace on earth."
