Why are there verses in the bible that seem to support both loss of salvation and security?

In fact Paul says in Galatians 1:15-16
[SUP]15 [/SUP]But when God, who set me apart from my mother’s womb and called me by his grace, was pleased[SUP]16 [/SUP]to reveal his Son in me so that I might preach him among the Gentiles, my immediate response was not to consult any human being.

But then he also says
1 Corinthians 9:27 No, I beat my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.

Is paul teaching that He both can and cannot lose salvation?

I mean thread after thread comes up here on CC and I'm willing to wager every other christian board out there...why are there seemingly two messages in the bible on this issue?
Read the expanded translation, and tell me what you think after you read it:

The prize is not salvation in this context, it's winning others for Christ, Paul is talking how he trains for knowing, speaking, reasoning for the Gospel as if he was training for a physical race or boxing match. The more you are equipped with the word and experienced in presenting it, the more God can use you for the advancement of His kingdom. The word is Spirit, a double edge sword that pierces the heart to convict men of their sin and rebellion against the Creator.

I would be suprised if somebody with a true relationship with God would do anything bad enough to lose their salvation HOWEVER I would not be supprised if people that think they are saved are realy not in which case they never had salvation in the first place

Hello,Prodigal5. I am savedsince14. And since that is my name on here, and I will be 51 at the end of March, that is exactly what I believe. You see, salvation is basically Jesus saving us from paying our sin debt in hell, which, by the way , is the ONLY place it can be paid. When we accept Jesus as our saviour, then we are accepting his payment for our sin debt so we won't EVER have to pay it . It is like if you went to a bank and borrowed $1000.00 dollars. oyu would owe that to that bank. If I went to that bank and payed off that $1000.00 dollars for you. you would no longer owe it . The only difference between a bank loan and salvation is you could go and reborrow that money. salvation is a ONE TIME thiong .. The scripture you quoted has the " renew them AGAIN." This means that if a person tries to live after they are saved like they did before they got saved, then they DO NOT get saved all over again, but ask the Lord to forgive them. You see, people who are lost don't care what they do. Saved people have the Holy Spirit inside them convicting them when they do something wrong. Here's something that would have to be true in order for you to lose salvation. God gives salvation, right? Who wants you to sin? Satan, right? So, if God gives salvation and a sin could take it away from you, then Satan would be more powerful than God because he would be able to take away what God gives. One of my favorite verses for once saved-always saved is Galations 2:22 which states" For I DO NOT frustrate the grace of god. for if righteous come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain." put simply, if you could live good enough to get yourself in to heaven. then there was NO reason for Christ to come. A verse that I suggest to everyone and will help you as well is what I believe to be the key verse to the entire Bible. It is 2nd Timothy 2:15 which states," Study to show thyself approved unto God,a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." The key words here are " unto God." Check your belief out with the scripture and if your belief doesn't match, change your belief to match it . Not what grandma believes ,or grandpa, or anyone else but God. Now, God can use other people to help you , but take the final word from God. I have believed in eternal salvation for many, many years because I know it is a Biblical truth . Now your lifestyle after salvation is for two reasons.First, to benefit you at the judgement seat of Christ.Second,to make believers out of other people. We have to physically prove that we are saved by how we live our lives. This does not mean we will never sin again. If that were true, then Paul could't have said ,"If we say we have no sin we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us."For example , if I tell you I have a $1000.00 dollar bill in my pocket, then I am going to have to show it to you to prove I have it. Jesus is not here in the flesh anymore, so He lives in the saved people and we are His representatives. He said himself," I will NEVER leave thee nor forsake thee." If we could lose salvation , then that would mean he would leave us. If you would like to email me, My e-mail address is [email protected] and I will gladly discuss it with you further.I am not ashamed to believe once saved - always saved because I KNOW it is Biblically true.I hope this has been a help to you and everyone else who has a problem believing this.

well, I don't it's God doing the disqualifying here, I think it the ones he's preaching to. If Paul didn't put into practice and train himself for the ministry God commissioned him to do, most of whom Paul preached to would disqualify him as a teacher thus his message would be weak and fall to the ground. What I get out this is, our life here on earth matters and we need to be about equipping ourselves with the Word and the answers/reasons for our faith so that we can be quick in giving these answers/reasons to those who ask about it.

Hey I am in a Theology class right now and we have an assignment called the great debate... one of the topics was security in faith and we were assigned to take sides. My side got that you can use your Salvation.
I am thinking of scripture that would back me up.

its hard now because I am not even really sure what I believe

Hebrews 6:4-6 "[SUP]4 [/SUP]It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit,[SUP]5 [/SUP]who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the coming age[SUP]6 [/SUP]and who have fallen[SUP][a][/SUP] away, to be brought back to repentance. To their loss they are crucifying the Son of God all over again and subjecting him to public disgrace."
Yes Christ is not coming back to do any more sacrifices he did it once
Hebrews 9:26Otherwise Christ would have had to suffer many times since the creation of the world. But he has appeared once for all at the culmination of the ages to do away with sin by the sacrifice of himself.
Hebrews 10:1[ Christ’s Sacrifice Once for All ] The law is only a shadow of the good things that are coming—not the realities themselves. For this reason it can never, by the same sacrifices repeated endlessly year after year, make perfect those who draw near to worship.
Hebrews 10:2Otherwise, would they not have stopped being offered? For the worshipers would have been cleansed once for all, and would no longer have felt guilty for their sins.
Hebrews 10:10And by that will, we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
Jude 1:3[ The Sin and Doom of Ungodly People ] Dear friends, although I was very eager to write to you about the salvation we share, I felt compelled to write and urge you to contend for the faith that was once for all entrusted to God’s holy people.

It is when one finally puts all thier trust in the finished work of God starting at the cross agrreing with Gt God took away all thier sins even if they sin again, then that is when one is freed and has new life in Christ no longer working for it and then no one can snatch that one out of his Hand and nothing can seperate them from the Love of God

Romans 6:10The death he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God.

So let's do the same in the Spirit of our minds die to our carnal minds once and for all and live to God in the Spirit of God, God by your free choice taking over your mortal flesh

Once one sees the truth posted here how can they lose their salvation the only way is to not believe. That is whatt the first scripture that you posted was about after you have tasted, experienced the baptisms, the Holy Ghost and you leave (fall away) there is no further repentance either you believe or you don't. If you believe continue on and Gos will show you all truth if you do not believe then we don't free choice but one will never be free even if they do becomne rich in money and assets of this world. I am free no jhob disabled had surgery, don'tknow how I am going to make don't care for I know somehow and honestly God will see me through, I have learned to not waste energy in and of the flesh I have learned to do justly, love MERCY, and walk HUMBLY by the grace of God from the cross of Jesus

The answer is in the text you posted...

But! if you want to return to the OLD man, God will allow that as well, but then the Truth that you know, is this.... ONCE YOU TASTED SALVATION, AND GO BACK TO SIN IN THE FLESH AGAIN, THERE IS NOT MORE SALVATION. YOU SHALL DIE THE SECOND DEATH... (REVELATIONS 2 and 20)

Hope this helps you a lot.
No Cobus there is no further repentance meaning there is no further forgiveness to be executed from God's part it is done at the cross where Christ died for the whole world taking away thier sins all of them
Either you beleive in the free gift or you don't and until one sees this they will not recieve new life in God by Christ, and stay workoing out their own salvation by the flesh as many are still doing to this very day you included. Jesus the propitiation for all sin is taken out of the way so Father by believe in this can give you new life right here and right now do you believe or do you want to continue to grieve the Holy Ghost in unbelief
Love you very much Cobus I am grieving for you deeply

It's a bad question.
Who's salvation is it to lose?
Who paid the price?
If you are working to earn it, you will most certainly lose it.
Because it was never yours to begin with.

Under the old covenanat, Every year the High Priest entered the Most Holy Place with blood and it was accepted for the forgivenss of the people sins. For God loved them, and because he did he accepted sacrifices so His people could be forgiven. God hates sin, but His great love for his people was shown in His willingness to accept sin offerings for their inevitable sin, for God knew obviously human nature, the people would sin, did sin, but he forgave them. What mattered to God was the heart. And many did love him, and serve him, and follow him, but sacrifices still had to be made for their sin the same as everyone elses. The blood of bulls and goats didn't really satisfy God as a sin offering, but because of His great love, mercy and compassion He accerpted THEM

Now we have a new covenant, where there are no animal sacrifices, for Christ paid a once and for all sacrifice for the sins of those who would come to God through him

BUT according to those who follow STANDINGINTHEGAP God has now changed. He is not such a merciful and loving God, Jesus died to usher in a much harsher covenant. Now all sin must cease before God will accept anyone, and you have to make of yourself a pure heasrt, and you of yourself have to put the old man to death, and if you do sin after you are saved you are in grave risk of the fires of hell. And if you commit a wilfull sin, that's it, you're thrown out only hell awaits
So under the new covenant God is not as tolerant as under the old. Whereas he readily forgave the peoples sins then, now he won't
Now if I had a choice, I'd have prefered to be under the first covenant, than the covenant that follwed(OR PROFESSED TO BE FOLLOWED) BY THOSE WHO FOLLOW STANDINGINTHEGAP

Of course under the old coveannt there were those who gave outwardly a very Godly appearance, and demanded strict observance of the law(sin is transgression of the law) And they continuously stressed that the law must be upheld, and the consequences of not rigidly obeying it, however Christ said this concerning those people:

Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples: [SUP]2 [/SUP]‘The teachers of the law and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat. [SUP]3 [/SUP]So you must be careful to do everything they tell you. But do not do what they do, for they do not practise what they preach. [SUP]4 [/SUP]They tie up heavy, cumbersome loads and put them on other people’s shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to lift a finger to move them.
Very good Marc great observationbut it is not an excuse for any of us to sin, And I know you are doing as just y as possible wanting to and especially loving the Mercy of God, and trying to walk humbly as Goid has said
Micah 6:8He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.
And this was in the and under the Old Covenannt the above verse, now under the new we are forgiven period from the vantage point of God the Father by the son, and since oyu believe do you believe that he took it all at the cross? Is there any sacrifice left? since you know there is no sacrifice left then there is no forgiveness left to be executed right? and you alsoknow there never was any forgiveness without the shedding of blood yes? So whydon't we just agree wiuth God and say thank you it is over and I will quit trying to fight my flesh and trust you Father that my old flesh is dead back at the cross by you Father and now I am raised back to life in you living one day at a time in you being focused on you Father thanking you you for this miraculous salvation no longer conscious of sinful flesh for yuo took it away at the cross all of it whether I sin or not, and so Father teach me what my mind is to be focused on, for as a man thinks whether he wants to do waht he thinks or not that he shall do
Love you Marc , living one day at a time brother thanking God for the mystery of the Gospel that Paul described it is all
God and none of us, only our belief in God that he did it all for us, it is a free gift to us that will recieve it and you have brother just live it day by day by Faith having your conscience purged from ever thinking about sin, and be thankful that if we do we have an advocate Jesus that has covered taken away all sin and learn to think on whatever is Good, perfect, righteous and correct this is God and you won't fill the desires of the flesh for your thoughts are not on the flesh this is what renewing ones mind is all about

Yes a person can loose his salvation if he forsake the Lord and be a worshiper of satan. That means he had never been saved.
But the predestined are those who God will never let them loose their salvation because the are pleasing to Him and they love God with all their hearts.
You said they were never saved thereofore there was no salvation to lose, so you posted incorrectly or what?

Yes you can loose your secure position, no such thing as OSAS there should be no debate as many lives are at stake here, but Hebrews ch 6 as you quoted it referring to those who are actually saved, through real repentance and faith, not the popular sinners prayer salvation being sold as truth today.

So those in the lukewarm church have no problem sinning every day against God,, and most are wallowing in sin and rebellion, so they trample the one time sacrifice of Christ's blood every day! Heba 9-14.

They have never repented are in great danger of the judgment!

Without repentance(wilful sin stopped) there is no remission of sins!

Ezekiel explains it well: Take heed:Eze 18:26 When a righteous one turns away from his righteousness and commits iniquity and dies in them; for his iniquity that he has done, he shall die.
Eze 18:27 Again, when the wicked turns away from his wickedness that he has committed and does that which is lawful and righteous, he shall save his soul alive.
Eze 18:28 Because he looks carefully, and turns away from all his sins that he has committed, he shall surely live; he shall not die.
Eze 18:29 Yet says the house of Israel: The way of Jehovah is not fair. O house of Israel, are not My ways fair? Are not your ways unfair?
Eze 18:30 So I will judge you, O house of Israel, each one of you according to his ways, says the Lord Jehovah. Turn and be made to turn from all your sins; and iniquity shall not be your stumbling-block.
Eze 18:31 Cast away from you all your sins by which you have sinned; and make you a new heart and a new spirit; for why will you die, O house of Israel?
Eze 18:32 For I have no delight in the death of him who dies, says the Lord Jehovah. Therefore turn and live.
Tommy we are today under a new Covenant not Old and you used all Old Covenant scripture to proove your point we today are not under Law butunder the Grace of God from the cross where all sins are forgiven n and of the Old Testament through to this very day, now Iam in total appreciation for this mystery revealed today by Paul
Romans 3:19Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be silenced and the whole world held accountable to God.
Okay been here and have agreed with the above
Romans 6:14For sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace.
Today I am here because of
Romans 6:15[ Slaves to Righteousness ] What then? Shall we sin because we are not under the law but under grace? By no means!
For it is the grace of God not being under law that we do not sin any longer but if we do we have an advocate
1 John 2:1My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One.
The believer Tommy is totally covered by God it is a free gift and Tommy if you have to work for it is no longer free
Romans 4:4Now to the one who works, wages are not credited as a gift but as an obligation
Romans 5:15But the gift is not like the trespass. For if the many died by the trespass of the one man, how much more did God’s grace and the gift that came by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, overflow to the many!
Romans 5:16Nor can the gift of God be compared with the result of one man’s sin: The judgment followed one sin and brought condemnation, but the gift followed many trespasses and brought justification.
Romans 5:17For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God’s abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ!
Romans 6:23For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
It is a gift Tommy please seek from God to recieve it please no one can evn it
Romans 11:29for God’s gifts and his call are irrevocable.
Ephesians 2:8For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—
Ephesians 3:7I became a servant of this gospel by the gift of God’s grace given me through the working of his power.
James 1:17Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.
Revelation 22:17The Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let the one who hears say, “Come!” Let the one who is thirsty come; and let the one who wishes take the free gift of the water of life.
Tommy it is through the life-giving Spirit CHRIST that we get life from CHRIST all it takes is belief without doubt
In Love to you

Paul is preaching truth to people about believing that God took away all their sins at the cross and he would be talking about the flesh and its depravity, therfore his mind getting focused on the flesh can and does produces fleshly results. Just think about sin and after awhile because of the thought of whether you want to do it or not you will do it. Have not everyone here experienced this over and over again? Therefore as you quoted
1 Corinthians 9:27 No, I beat my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.
Romans 13:14Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh.
Do not even think about the flesh at all ask God to purge your conscience from Sin from Flesh

Excuse me im just an ole boy. But, could you please explain how you can lose your salvation if you never been saved. Thanks
It is clearly explain in Hebrew 6 vs 4-6 that this person cannot renew to repentance again because he is crucifying again the son of God.
His salvation that he obtained was a permissive salvation. He lost it when he sinned against the Holy Spirit and can never be forgiven.
But the elected are those whose who God predestined before the foundation of the world and they can never sin against the Holy Spirit.

Consider the true story of the ministers son, a member in good standing with the church, graduates H.S. and enrolls at Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, Ark. His plan is to get his bachelors degree and start his own ministry. After being exposed to the wisdom of man, this young fellow learns that all he has been taught by the church and his father was false. He learns that the Bible is full of contradictions, and because science proves the scriptures are false, he renounces Christianity and is now, and has been sense his enlightenment in 1974, an atheist.

This fellow, like the prodigal son, is a lost child of the father. He is dead in his sin. Thanks to the grace of God, if and when he does return, with a contrite heart, in full repentance, and submit himself as a servant to the Father, all will be restored to this fellow. Just like the father of the prodigal son, our Father will say, "For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry."Luke 15:24

Crosspreacher I see it this way they had not yet really repented they were playing Church and was in the sessions and decided to walk away. I do not thinkthat they ever truly repented repent is to me as Iuinderstand it is one either believes or they don't. these people tasted were on milk and in need of maturity. And crucifying the Lord afresh is asking for more forgiveness and the only reason someone willdo thisis that htey do not believe that God through Son did not take away all their sins, because they can't stop and do not understand what is keeping them sin and it is themselves thinking about having to stop therefore they gratify the flesh and flesh sins. They do not understand that they need by Faith go to the cross of Chrsit and die with Christ in the Spirit of their mind and ask for the resurrection from the operation of God the Father to raise them back to life a resurrected one here and nowas Father did Christ on the third day
[h=3]Hebrews 10:10[/h]New International Version (NIV)

[SUP]10 [/SUP]And by that will, we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
Now aslong as one believes this what God said God did then I doubt that htat one will sin again or a lot less as they grow in understanding this truth, so therefore we have in case we sin an advocate:
1 John 2:1
My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One.
And the above is not for any further forgiveness it is so one can:
Hebrews 4:16Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
This our time of need is to learn grow in grace learning how to trust in God and have no thoughts take hold that areof the flesh so you won't sin
Hope you get it or already understand this thanks

Hey Homeward Bound,
I am not sure what you are saying to Mark54 here at the beginning of your response to him, but I have gotten to know him on CC, and he does not hold the belief that we are excused to sin. Mark is walking close to God and preaching the wonderful news of grace.

Sorry to hear this about this person, David the enemy is continuously out to get one to not believe and there are a lot of errors over the centuries that have infiltrated the Ecclesia, Isay Ecclesia because the word Church was never mentioned in the original greek text of the New Testament and I know the enemy will use anything the enemy can use and pass blame to whomever and use great swelling words, inplace of plain simple truth the GOD just LOVED us at the cross. And man has built so many ways from the foundation the Paul made us all aware of and told us to be careful how we build, but God is Faithful and the Holy Ghost is chasing pleading and telling this person the truth about God, I am praying he is listening
