Yeah, I understand where you're coming from, but like what I've said before, any self-respecting christian who knows they have an issue with something should be taking action to take care of that problem, part of that is knowing what their triggers are. If they know their going to be triggered by something like that, they can and should look away, or better yet, just avoid. I'm sure an avid museum and art fanatic would know where they should and should not expect to see something that would trigger them. From my own personal point of view, by someone having an issue with lust and pornography that ends up stumbling because of nude art work, it's far to easy to use the reasoning you mentioned for them to put the blame on someone else which is extremely dangerous for them.

That's not to say you're wrong by any means. As christians we should do everything we can to avoid hitting people's triggers, but everyone is affected by something different and it's very likely we won't always avoid that. Reading ijustwantthetruth's posts about her own artwork I think she did a good job of making something she felt she should, while still being mindful of anyone who could be affected by it, hence the reason she made this post.

I apologize if I'm offensive in anyway, I don't mean to be, I'm just trying to explain how your perspective could be dangerous for someone involved.
thank you! :) yeah! it's like how i deal with compulsive overeating. my mom still likes to bake. she won't stop just bc i have issues with food. i always like to blame her for making things that I stuff my face with but it's really all me. if I am tempted. then I have to be the bigger person (or smaller person as the case may be! ;) ) and not eat that which tempts me. i have to leave the kitchen. make strategies. avert my eyes. not think about the cookies. not lust after the cookies. lol.

it might seem like a silly comparison, but to me it's the same. my mom still wants to make cookies. bc SHE likes them.
it's my fault if i eat 21 cookies in one day JUST bc they're there. ya know? i take full responsibility for my problems and i shall deal with them to the best of my ability! lol. :D

My dad does that, too, but eventually I stopped eating what he makes. I want to take care of my body - not run it down. So he ended up eating all of the cookies except one, eating half a cake before he had to throw the rest away, and eating a tub of ice cream he made. lol I barely touched any of them. And I think he's getting the picture now.

Yeah, I think it has more to do with guilt than anything else. Like, if he makes a huge batch of cookies the logical conclusion is that he's not going to eat them all. So I have three choices: 1. watch him waste the food that he's just bought or 2. help him eat it. So maybe that's only two choices. Whatever. But I think that I'd rather he wasted the food than his food wasted my body. lol And that's just what I decided on. He's slowly been making smaller and smaller batches, though.

i love that logic. and i love you. but that's a sidenote. lol at his learning curve.

I think it can be art sometimes...I think old paintings and things depict it more naturally and beautiful..where as now things are all about sex and lust...instead of seeing it as a representation of the human body and how amazing it is it is viewed inappropriately...the nude pictures or paintings themselves can still be art but unfortunately this day in age ppl are drastically different and since sex and everything else is thrown at us constantly we view that type of art differently

very true. it's kinda odd, huh. how sex is made out to be everything. sex can't be everything.

I think it was CS Lewis that did a very nice explanation of society's appetite for sex. Something about how they have the idea that if they suffice it and satisfy it then that will be doing the right thing and kind of quenching the thirst so to speak, but they haven't realized throughout the years with this thinking, things should be more tame than they are, but if anything people are getting even more hungry for it. Or he said something to that extent. If I remember right it was in Mere Christianity, I could be wrong so don't quote me on that.

Pastor made a good point this morning. 'If you want to sell a man something, use a pretty girl to do it.' Men would prolly be more likely to buy something from a pretty girl than another man selling the same thing.

Not to rain on the parade, but I took a college business class once, and actually the opposite is true. On the other hand if it's something like an axe commercial showing them they'll get chicks, then yes. Otherwise it's just guys with too much hormones doing the advertising

Can nudity in art be beautiful, sensual, symbolic etc, without the connotation of sex? I think it can.

a guy is going to be less inclined to buy a product that is used by a woman in an advertisement, and more inclined to buy a product that is shown being used by men. It's kind of logical when you think about it.

men look up to other men. they lust after women. either motive will sell a product. just depends what it is. like zao said.

Yeah, like I said, the axe commercials definitely sell. I know they got me to buy products when I was in high school.
