Back to the original topic, I had to do Life Drawing for my Graphic Design course. I had just come out of high school and was still fairly sheltered. I found the experience embarrassing but never lusted over the people. They tended to get people who looked like they experimented with drugs (sorry, not trying to judge but they didn't look the least bit healthy). Also, for better or worse, you view the people as objects to draw. I think there's value in learning to draw true anatomy but it's not for me.
SAME. graphic design major. had to draw nudes for art. extremely sheltered. embarassed and awkward about the experience. haha. back then? i didnt even complete the nude males. i literally shaded in his crotch area and left it at that. hahahhaa. great kid i was. hahahahaha. ex drugees eh? we got a beautiful female nude model but the man was like 60. haha. looking at him freaked me out.
but yeah. i would find it more valuable at this stage of my life. not that i am gonna draw much. but i do love to paint. anyways. i hear ya. and i agree.

I have seen nudity in art that impacted me in a way that was "sensual". It came thru in the work. It provoked what the scripture calls lasciviousness or evil concupiscence. Then I've seen work that contained nudity that did not provoke these passions. I believe this is determined by the spirit that inspired the artist. The nude statue of David did not come across to me as amorous. The nudes in Micheal Angelo's work do not strike me as provocative of such passions either.

For some with susceptibility in the areas of lust, the inspiration of the artist may not matter, they would still need to avoid it. I have to discipline myself to look at these works of art in the right way to avoid allowing my mind to go where it shouldn't, regardless. My experience with some European artist from the 1600 thru 1800's is that they were painting to capture & convey a sensuality & even an unapologetic (though subtle) lewdness in there work, of course this would appeal to many.
The "lust of the eyes" isn't just about our sexuality, it can be any overemphasis on allowing our hearts to be overtaken with beauty of any kind. God has dealt with my heart about complimenting females of all ages on there good looks. It may seem innocent, but I learned I was deceiving myself. A large percentage of men are to easily taken captive by a pretty face. Women are not altogether affected either.
good points. my motive in my piece was to view my body as a piece of art, and to love myself at my current size (which was like 13 pounds overweight- which i happen to be at again-lol)
i am not sure what shows in the piece, (not literally shows. i mean intent-wise) but i know some have said it is sensual. and some have simply loved it. so. i dunno. i personally really love it. and there's something freeing about putting it out there and being unashamed of my body, though it is silhouetted in darkness.

but there. that was my motive.

The human body is God's greatest art form. We were created naked and ran around that way for God knows how long. We never thought it odd to be so until we ate that waldorf salad.

<waldorf salad> rolly eyes... were reading the alice in wonderland version of the bible???

This is a really weird topic.

I mean, if anyone sits down and thinks about it, it really poses some dilemmas.
Is there any reason a silhouette should be such a big deal?
On the other hand, as Christians, where do things genuinely cross the line?

I'll just speak for myself.
If you set a completely "artistic" image of an attractive naked female in front of me... I pretty much just instantly stopped having pure thoughts.
Now, is that your fault or my fault?
Well, that's a completely different discussion.
: )
