After all these years, one major focus that I finally came to understand about the "Jesus Only" doctrine is that most people who call themselves Christians agree as one that Christ Jesus (is) definitely absolutely the "Son" of God", those who adhere to the "Jesus Only" doctrine are very cleverly saying, He is definitely absolutely "Not"!

Even John the Baptist got to a point in his life where he needed reassurance that the man he publicly pointed to and said was the Son of God, was the Christ. Christians today are no different, and it is still a show of faith in God to ask for it.
