What was the subject of the most recent sermon you heard?

For me, it was entitled, "Keep Yourselves from Idols." It was the last in a series of sermons on John's 1st letter.

    Saved by faith alone?

I came across this comment concerning eis (sometimes translated "for") in my bible software concordance: ""For" (as used in Ac 2:38 "for the forgiveness … ") could have two meanings. If you saw a poster saying "Jesse James wanted for robbery," "for" could mean Jesse is wanted so he can commit a...

How do we Love God with all thy Heart, Soul, Mind & Strength?

How do we do that? Very imperfectly. Can any one of us honestly say that we perfectly love God with all our soul, mind and strength? I believe that Jesus's summary of the Commandments shows the impossibility in this life of sinless perfection.

Why we can't save most of the people of the world...

I would say that the title of the thread (Why We Can't Save Most of the People of the World) gives the wrong impression. We don't (and can't) save anybody. Only Jesus Christ does that: “"Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we...

Did God plan for man to fall to prove something to Satan and his angels?

But the verse in the bible that uses the word "foreordained" is this one: “He indeed was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you” (1Pe 1:20 NKJV) That means far more than God the Father merely knowing in advance that He would send His only...

If someone knowingly chooses to believe false doctrine,

Thanks. Yes, I thought we agreed, and it seems we do. Thanks for confirming that.

The problem of the statement of “never saved to begin with”

I wonder how we can measure faith in terms of percentages. Are you saying that to be saved, we need faith which is a greater than 50% trust in Christ's trustworthiness? How would you know if your faith was 49% (unsaved) or 51% (saved)? Do you have any bible passages that give even the...

    Presuming on the Blood

Not so, because Jesus said: “My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, My servants would fight, so that I should not be delivered to the Jews; but now My kingdom is not from here."” (Joh 18:36 NKJV) Being born again is a "must." When Jesus told Nicodemus about the...

If someone knowingly chooses to believe false doctrine,

Yes, I agree with that. My question concerned the word "knowingly." I don't see how somebody can really know that a doctrine is false, and yet continue to believe it.

GOD WANTS EVERYONE TO BE SAVED

As I said, it's not everybody. It's "whoever believes in Him."

If someone knowingly chooses to believe false doctrine,

Surely if you believe false doctrine, whether knowingly or unknowingly, then you are a believer in false doctrine.

If someone knowingly chooses to believe false doctrine,

You have repeated many times those words, "knowingly believes/choose to believe false doctrine." I have yet to meet anybody who says, "Well, I know this doctrine is false, but I am going to believe it anyway!" There are plenty who believe false doctrines, bur they do so believing those...

GOD WANTS EVERYONE TO BE SAVED

Gosh, I never said that it applies only to me. I said " The verse also says that it is "whoever believes in Him" who does not perish but has everlasting life. " (I also referred to not having memorised the verse in childhood, but that I have since becoming a Christian). I am sorry if you took...

If someone knowingly chooses to believe false doctrine,

Sorry, but I don't understand your answer. The question was "What do you understand 1 Cor. 15:19 to be saying?" I don't see how repeating the Thread title plus the original post answers that, unless you really mean that you believe 1 Corinthians 15:19 means, "If someone knowingly chooses to...

    Presuming on the Blood

Peter addresses his first letter: “Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, To the pilgrims of the Dispersion in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in sanctification of the Spirit, for obedience and sprinkling of the blood of...
