I think the illustration makes more sense when the Father symbolizes our heavenly Father. Some people don't know their earthly father and we don't need to return to our earthly father when we're grown. We All need be reconciled to our heavenly Father, no matter what age.

Works are required, but it's not the works that saves us. It's God's grace that saves us. To gain God's grace we must show we believe by our works. Because saying we believe is not as powerful as acting like we believe.

I say pick your battles. Calvanists shouldn't be your main target just because their beliefs may be a little off just as some of yours may be. They believe in God and the important things.
