I was not raised in a religious home, no church, no prayers at meals or bedtime, no talk of God - no opposition to God or Christianity, it was just absent from the house. I began reading the Bible, as well as the Bhagavad Gita, the Koran, esoteric poetry, etc, when I was 17 - I wasn't searching for truth and troubled in any way, I just thought it was all very interesting. I soon fixed my attention of the Bible and dropped everything else - other religious texts seemed to me to be men trying to explain the lights in the sky or why one man's crops fail while another enjoys plenty, the Bible read like an account by eyewitnesses of historic events.

Not even realizing I was praying, but simply asking God to help me understand, passages suddenly seemed to open-up to me, it all seemed very clear and desirable to me. I told my then hippie girlfriend that I was now a believer and we entered into our Christian life together. We are now at over 5 years later with 6 kids and currently hovering at 17 grandkids . . . and I love that girl today more than ever.
