Hi OrthodoxGirl, I'm happy to meet you :) , just a quick question is it orthodox as of the orthodox denominations (such as Greek Orthodox) or orthodox as an orthodox Christian (affirming the truth of the orthodox creeds etc), not for any particularly reason, I'm just curious ;) and please don't feel like you have to answer this at all, you just stirred my curiosity that's all, so if you don't wish to say anything, that's perfectly fine as well :D .

Anyway, on the main thing, Hi lol, and I do hope you find your time here to be a blessed one, and the fellowship you find on this site to be loving and affirming, one which builds you up in your faith and leads to many true and loving friendships, and leads you into contact with many loving Orthodox Christians :D . And don't worry, you'll be a forum and chat pro in no time short ;,

God bless you, protect and keep you, Welcome :D

You are so kind! God bless you! May the Lord be with you and protect you always! Yes, I am indeed Antiochian Orthodox. My family is orthodox however I wasn't really serious about my faith. I really got serious at 18. However I looked into Catholicism and the Evangelical churches, but ended up coming back to orthodoxy last year. And I've been there ever since. I'm obviously not where I need to be spiritually, but I'm growing closer to God as I'm learning. Feel free to ask me anything! :)

Thanks so much for your response! Peace be with you!

Hi, can you explain orthodox? I always hear these "label" groups for lack of a better term, and I really don't understand the explanations that I find elsewhere. I sort of understand charismatic/pentecostal, to a degree, but even then people's beliefs about what they mean vary, so I get confused.

The church was one until the schism (split) in 1054. The eastern church took the name orthodox (greek 'orthos' means correct, right and 'doxa' means dogma, faith, teaching; orthodox literally means the right teaching) in order to differentiate itself of the western church; the western church took the name 'catholic', which means universal.

In my country, Romania, orthodox is used to designate the church above mentioned (my church) and the christians of that church; yet, it is very possible that people (occidental people) use orthodox also for other christians. Which is why, I always say that I am eastern orthodox christian, so that I don`t create confusion.

This should help explain it...
