Isn't is strange how many illnesses are thought to be all in the
mind, then later it's realised it was a genuine ailment after all.

Fibromyalgia Mystery Finally Solved! Researchers Find Main Source of Pain in Blood Vessels |

Researchers have found the main source of pain in
Fibromyalgia patients, and contrary to what many believe,
it does not stem from the brain. The findings mark the end
of a decades-old mystery about the disease, which many
doctors believed was conjured in patients’ imaginations.
The mystery of Fibromyalgia has left millions of sufferers
searching for hope in pain medications. Up until recently,
many physicians thought that the disease was “imaginary”
or psychological, but scientists have now revealed that
the main source of pain stems from a most unlikely
place- excess blood vessels in the hand, legs and foot.

That's weird. It's cool that they are learning more about it though, must be dreadful to be in pain and be told you are imagining it

Hi Miri, This is not new, it's been known for about 4 years now. But it's still good news!

So good to hear Demi. I'm truly happy for you that you don't suffer anymore. :)

I've had it for over 35 years and still I'm weak, tired and in pain. But I have noticed a lessening of symptoms when I eat healthy.

I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis when I was 25 years old. At the time nobody currently living in my family had it, and did not know of any relatives who had it when they were alive. I got treated like a hypochondriac by my husband at the time. It wasn't until years later, that my mother was in contact with an Aunt on her father's side of the family who told her that my great-great (or 3 -greats) grandmother on my mother's side of the family had it, and everybody who knew about it had already died by the time my mother was either born or grown up.

About 2005-2006, I remember sitting in my easy chair, and feeling loads of chest pain. I called my doctor's office, and they said "Get in here, NOW!". I went to the office, and they hooked me up to an EEG machine, and after the doctor looked at the readout, he told me that I didn't have a heart attack, my heart was in good shape. He said "All the arteries, and vessels surrounding your heart, went into spasm, inside your chest, and that's why you had such pain, and felt like you were having a heart attack." All I can say is OUCH!!!!! I had that happen twice.
Then I got diagnosed with Costochondritis (no, not the same as Costochondroitin). I was getting severe pain radiating from my spine in back, down through my ribs to the front, and ending in the bottom portion of my ribs in front. I kept having to sit down in my easy chair and lie back to get relief from it. Well, later I found out that it is a symptom of Fibromyalgia. It is caused by inflammation of the stretchy places in the ribs, that flex when you breathe. The on-call doctor didn't tell me right away what it was, all they did was prescribe anti-inflammants, and muscle relaxants.

The mystery won't be solved until it is cured! That, and all the other autoimmune diseases I have!
