Hi as many of you probably know, I look after my elderly aunt.
She recently celebrated her 83rd birthday, but it was a struggle getting her through the winter
months and to her next birthday.
She wasn’t off antibiotics for more than 3 weeks at any one time during the winter. At one point
she was in hospital with breathing problems and scoring 9 out of 10 on the sepsis scale and
I had to call out the doctor on average twice a month. She was also ill the Christmas week.
I’m not certain what the next winter holds and I fear she may not cope well with
any more chest infections, coughs, colds, breathing problems.
I was hoping that at least we could have a good summer together free from illnesses.
In that respect things have been more or less ok so far, but she has been getting extremely
confused and this is proving to be very challenging and stressful.
It’s looking likely that it’s a mixture of hypoxia, (she has COPD and is on oxygen 24/7)
tiredness, (she has heart failure too), the heat, not drinking enough.
Maybe a bit if dementia starting, although her memory isn’t that bad.
What l’m really hoping for is that we can have a good summer together, a time
free of any more infections and hospital visits, a time of clarity and that things will
just calm down and this confusion will stop.
Also for me for wisdom.
Thanks guys.
