Ah... so backsliding is a whole new ball game .... :) But this isn't about backsliding, it's about APOSTASY. Plain and simple. (y)
And so you know.. I'm not agreeing with you... just sayin.
Same thing

Definition of apostasy
1 : an act of refusing to continue to follow, obey, or recognize a religious faith
2 : abandonment of a previous loyalty : defection

Not quite! :) Believers can't abandon their loyalty to Jesus Christ. And what true Christian "refuses" to recognize their faith?

Get the bible translation and not mans translation too:

STRONGS NT 646: ἀποστασία

ἀποστασία, ἀποστασιας, ἡ(ἀφισταμαι), a falling away, defection,

646 apostasía (from 868 /aphístēmi, "leave, depart," which is derived from 575 /apó, "away from" and 2476 /histémi, "stand") – properly, departure (implying desertion); apostasy – literally, "a leaving, from a previous standing."

Apostasy means to completely leave and go away from God, thus never receiving salvation, and refusing to acknowledge He is GOD. Thus, never believing. Not the same thing.

Here's Holy Spirit filled Stephen's summation of Israel:

Acts 7:51“You stiff-necked people, uncircumcised in heart and ears, you always resist the Holy Spirit. As your fathers did, so do you. 52Which of the prophets did your fathers not persecute? And they killed those who announced beforehand the coming of the Righteous One, whom you have now betrayed and murdered, 53you who received the law as delivered by angels and did not keep it.”

The OT is mainly about kings and prophets. Israel as a whole is dealt with in direct proportion to the king following the prophets orders and getting rid of other "gods" (these are the high places). Except for David, we read of him inquiring of the Lord directly for himself. Which alone is fascinating. But I believe there's a deeper thing here though because what's happened is the people of Israel didn't mind following the law's regulations, but they didn't want to be lead by God directly. So they killed and persecuted the prophets who spoke for God.

This goes back to our understanding of sin as a whole. Sin is anything not of faith. Sin is not seeking after God. This is why understanding of repentance is pivotal. Or else we could be like the Pharisees when Jesus corrected them here:

John 5:39You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness about me, 40yet you refuse to come to me that you may have life.

Israel refused to come to God. Jesus weeps about it here:

Matt 23:37 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often would I have gathered your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you were not willing!

Please notice the thread here, resisting Holy Spirit, the living God who is with us today to lead us and guide us. Even today we see many who disregard Him preferring their own traditional interpretations of Scripture instead of seeking Him directly.

I believe its truer to say they followed Moses, but not God. They listened to Moses and later when Jesus spoke to them. Who was their focus? Moses.

John 5:45Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father. There is one who accuses you: Moses, on whom you have set your hope.

This goes back to the mountain of Sinai. They sent Moses up instead of coming to God for themselves. And later they asked for a king instead of for God. They wanted an intermediary instead of being lead by Him. They didn't believe in Him.
That makes sense.

And let's break this down even one step further....

"an act of refusing to obey a religious faith"

I guess if u're not feeding the poor, clothing the naked, visiting the widows, and all that other good works we're called to do, then you yourself are not "OBEYING" your religious faith, so that means you have Apostatized and need to get re saved man. I didn't say it, you did. Not that I presume you don't do those things... but, it's what u're saying as to what makes it a false statement. If you go by the definition you posted, then those that do not do those, have apostatized.

Yeah you can. You can go to Church and believe there's a God or a supreme being and then turn away from that... thus Apostatizing. What's so hard about that? People do it all the time. Read Romans chapter 1. They KNOW there is a God, but they completely reject HIM. Thus, apostatizing again.

And nonsense or not, you can't argue the truth. God love you too! I hope you know that.

HAHA, are you reading? Or do you just not understand? Believing in God does not mean you have put your FAITH in Him.. the devil also believes but is he saved? Has he put his trust in Jesus? Has the devil put his faith in Jesus, in whom he believes in? Really, do you read anything?

But it's pretty obvious that all of the Israelites who came out of Egypt did believe the command to put blood of the Passover lamb on their door frames. So to say they didn't have a true, underlying faith is ridiculous because their faith saved their firstborns.
Yep, they belevd and had faith in god so much when they got to the red sea they complained, murmered and yelled at MOSES for leading them to their deaths

Clearly you have no idea what true faith looks like

Don't tell any Jew the Israelites did not believe in Yahweh, you will be in serious trouble.
Lol dont tell anyone they did, you will be seen as a person who does not study. People who have faith dont complain every time it gets bad then demand to go back.

So they worshipped a God they did not believe in. That is stupid.
What world do you live in man, they worshipped the calf, they did not worship god, they did what moses told them to, thats not worship, thats being obedient to a man.

The devil believes and deceives.
Ditto for cults.
Neither are saved.

And u're right, they worshiped things other than God. There might have been some, I would think, because some do it today, that pretended to worship God so they could look as if they were part of the crowd, but never really, in their heart, love God. But mainly they worshiped idols and didn't have belief in God; thus why it says they had 'unbelief' and why they were destroyed.

I just love how they push james 2 down our throats saying it refutes OSAS, yet they will say isreal who hearers of god, but not doers (proven over and over) yet they somehow had saving faith. And not dead faith.

Talk about contradiction
