I was thinking the other day, that we talk a lot about God and Jesus but mostly when
the Holy Spirit is mentioned on here. It’s in relation to tongues, which then becomes a massive debate.

How well do we actually know the third person of the trinity?
Should we talk about Him more.
  1. He convicts us of sin (John 16:8).
  2. He permanently indwells us (John 14:16-17).
  3. He seals us (Eph. 1:13).
  4. He teaches us (John 14:26).
  5. He guides us into all truth (John 16:13).
  6. He reminds us (John 14:26).
  7. He bears fruit through us (Gal. 5:22-23).
  8. He comforts us (John 16:7).
  9. He equips us with spiritual gifts (1 Cor. 12:4-7).
  10. He fills us (Eph. 5:18).
  11. He empowers us (Acts 1:8).

I'm a oneness pentecostal, so I'm not even touching the trinity part. I'm not here to start arguments.

But I am reminded of a line from a Sara Groves song.
"Do I really want a God
That I can understand?"

If I did understand God... if I really were able to comprehend all that God is... would I want a god like that? I don't think I would.

Miri, this is a very good question and one that all should contemplate...

we should all keep in mind that The Spirit is Holy and The Origin is of God -
so we should constantly strive to bear the 'fruits' of The Holy Spirit,
that is, we should walk in Holiness...

Interesting that those who claim to have the Holy Spirit gifts are the one who seem to know the least about the Holy Spirit.

One cannot be saved apart from the Holy Spirit. One cannot walk in paths of righteousness apart from the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit in us keeps us from temptation. The Holy Spirit in us is our witness that we are the children of God. The Holy Spirit in us is how we declare Abba Father. The absolute necessity of the Holy Spirit in our life every second of every day cannot be understated.

For the cause of Christ

I didn’t even know the Holy Spirit was a person until I was shown this in a dream
some years ago.

I had a dream that I was reading a book but instead of looking down at two
open pages, I was looking at three pages.

Each page had the head and shoulders of a person in profile with a description
under each person. I looked at the pictures and read the description then I woke
up. As I was waking up in that half and half state, I realised I was looking at
God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.

Once fully awake I couldn't remember the pictures or the description and was just
left with the interpretation of the dream. I even tried to go back to sleep to have the
dream again but of course you can’t do that!

I was thinking that if we knew the Holy Spirit better, then maybe this would
fill in the gaps people might feel they have in their walk with God.

I need to get to know the Holy Spirit better too, sometimes I have known Him better
other times not.

It helps very much if one actually has the indwelling Holy Spirit as opposed to spurious claims that
all "believers" receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit when they believe … a gospel of their choice.

That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.
1Corinthians 2:5
For the kingdom of God is not in word, but in power.
1Corinthians 4:20
But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.
2Corinthians 4:7
For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
2Timothy 1:7
But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit,
Jude 1:20
18 For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.
19 Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints, and of the household of God;
Ephesians 2:
14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry,
Abba, Father.
16 The Spirit itself bears witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
Romans 8:

Thanks for the verses, waggles. I love the catchy children's song by Steve green on The fruit of the Spirit. But even tho i could sing that all day, is it true that i have all the fruit in my life: love, joy, peace, patience kindness goodness... How i need to pray that i walk and keep in step with the Spirit, and also don the full armor of God everyday, parts of which i often forget to put on, esp the Breastplate of righteousness=(. May we truly bear fruit through us, and equip us with spiritual things.

The Holy Spirit is what make God God. It is His omnipresence, omnipotence and omniscience. You can't separate the HS from Jesus or the Father. We will never understand the HS while we have our carnal minds. We can say God is everywhere at once, but can we understand that? When conversing with God the HS is our portal.

We can say God has always existed, but can we really fathom having no beginning? He created and sustains everything. How does he do that? I can't imagine. We can look forward to God sharing these things when we are face to face and not looking through glass darkly.

1 Cor. 13:12
"For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known."

And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
John 14:16
Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.
John 14:23 [abode = residence]
But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things
to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
John 14:26
But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceeds from the Father, he shall testify of me:
John 15:26

The Holy Spirit has been my constant companion for 56 years.
He came into my life the moment I was saved.

As you said "truly" saved - please define: please reveal to us all who is truly saved.
You must be referring to Roman Catholics, but then again we all know that JWs have the monopoly
on salvation.
I could be wrong but maybe it is the Eastern Orthodox faith who can trace their heritage back to the Roman
Empire days.
Or did Luther obtain it solely for Protestants?

God the Holy Spirit was WITH the disciples before the Cross, and on the Day of Pentecost and afterwards, He Who was with them, entered them. John 14v17, Acts 2v4, 8v14-17.

Eph. 2:8-10, John 3:16
Not talking about Catholics, JW, Eastern Orthodox, Luther, Protestants, The Revival Fellowship, or Baptist.
All who have by faith believed are saved and Baptized in the Holy Spirit at that moment.
The Holy Spirit does not come at some later date and "speaking in tongues" is not required evidence of the Holy Spirits presents.
Even though you will not admit it, It is evident by your many post that you believe that only those who "speak in tongues" are truly saved.

Why do we say "THE" Holy Spirit when we don't say THE G-d, or The Jesus?
A friend of mine always refers to Holy Spirit in just this way, Holy Spirit, not THE Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit is the Power/Arm of the One and only Spirit...

EPH. 4:5-6.

One Lord, one faith, one baptism,

One God and Father of all, Who is above all, and through all, and in you all.
AMEN...
