Mental illness is a myth. It is a direct spiritual assault! I have suffered in a similar way, and no medications can take it away because it is NOT a physical illness. Read scripture. We are not alone. Demonic attacks are prevalent throughout the Bible.
If mental illness is a myth, then why do the medications work? I run a bipolar group, all are self aware and take their meds, and they are all doing well. I feel I can trust those 35 people more than anyone else. They are honest and open. Some are Christians, some are not.

The meds work, because mental illness is a disease which attacks the brain. Replace the neurotransmitters that are not being produced and the people improve rapidly.

I know someone who suffers from terrible, debilitating depression. He would not take meds for years, because he thought it was all his fault, or the devil, and his life was miserable. He started on meds, and he is happy and functional.

I will agree that there are some of episodes of demonic possession in the Bible. But, that doesn't have to be what afflicts people today. In ancient times, there were very few diseases, compared to today. Today, we have the affects of accumulating sin and its consequences. We have the results of bodies breaking down because of mutations. We are exposed more to a sun that is not filtered, causing all kinds of diseases, especially cancer. There are diseases which have crossed over from others species. Perhaps in the first century AD, demons did cause all the weird possession. But 2000 years later, things are NOT the same. Mental illness is real, and it exists, and it is NOT caused by demons, in the majority of cases.

I feel certain that the isolation and alienation in our society did not exist in Biblical times. i am sure there was hopelessness in the first century. But today, it is even worse.

All you do with these ignorant posts is contribute to the stigma that mental illness is not a real disease, but demonic. And who wants to admit something demonic happened to them? Especially if they are Christians? No one! That is why people do not get medical treatment, because of people like you terrifying people with this nonsense.

Mental illness is real, and it can be helped! You need to stop spreading lies like this, and understand that what people know about the brain is a lot greater than in Jesus' day. And that there is help. Oh, and Jesus knows and understands their suffering. He will never leave them or forsake them.

And Christians cannot be possessed, ever! Because the Holy Spirit lives in our bodies, the temple! He won't live where there are demons!

This is quite simply not a demonic attack. It is a mental illness, if it has lasted so consistently. Have you ever seen a medical doctor? You need medical help.

Yes, God could heal you. But you have bad theology, and you are not self aware as to the true cause of your problem. So work with doctors, and God will be there. I would not have posted in this old thread, but since the OO brought it up, it needs a comment!

PS Whatever you have been doing has not worked. Seven years later, it is time to go with conventional therapies and treatments! I promise you, you will not lose your soul. God is in control, not demons or Satan!

[QUATE] I promise you, you will not lose your soul. God is in control, not demons or Satan!
I only wish you were right, one day I went off to see a priest for help, you should have seen the look of shock on his face, as he told me, that what you've got can destroy you? the priest was right it can destroy me. please pray for me and the brethren.

You do not know God at all. That Catholic priest does not know God at all.

Either God is supreme, sovereign and totally in control, or he is nothing. Being "God" means he is omnipotent, omnipresent, omniscient. He knows everything, he is everywhere, and he has all power.

Any conception of God that puts Satan and his minions as more powerful than God, is not Christianity at all!

You are mentally ill, Karen. I don't know why you started this post in 2011, back in my earliest days, then left for years, then came back a few times. Were you institutionalized? There is no shame in that, but those demons and bad dreams come from your mental illness. The mental illness causes you to think those things are real, not vice versa.

You have been lied to by the Catholic Church, which has little knowledge of God. The mass does not save, the Eucharist is false. What is true is that Jesus died for your sins, and in this world we will have tribulations. BUT, God, in Christ Jesus, has overcome the world.

"I have told you these things so that in me you may have peace. In the world you have trouble and suffering, but take courage—I have conquered the world.” John 16:33

I would tell you to read the Bible, but in this psychotic state, you will just read into it things that are not there. Praying for you to be saved, and for you to get medical treatment for this mental illness you suffer from.

I haven't got a mental illness, and I never been institutionalized, I'm a nobody and that is all as I want to be in the kingdom of heaven, I am protected by God.

the devil has a special hate for me, Jesus said to pray for your enemy so I pray for the demonic forces of evil that attack me, I pray they will go back to God and I pray for Gods mercy for them, i thing about what our Lord said considering these things, all things are possible with God.

an angel told me to have the holy bible and have my soul cleansed and that God is with you. I am truly born again, A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh. when this happened to me, I wept so much for my sins I was exhausted. having a heart of stone stopped me from seeing truth.

I had a weakness I was sexually perverse, the Lord healed me of this sin, I was a liar, thief, arrogant, selfish, rude, greedy for money, lover of money, I conned people out of money, a bully, violent, disobedient, the only person I ever thought about was my self my wants, and so much more sins I use to do but no longer, Jesus healed me of all the about, I'm writing a book of my walk with God, you can read it online for free. my work is to glorify God to the four corners of the earth, and the only things that matters is the relationship I have with God nothing else. I have given up my life for the brethren in whom I love with all my being.

Praise God he has done such a work in your heart! None the less, the symptoms you post above, (sins, for sure!) could be indicative of bipolar disorder, or borderline personality or other things. But you would need a doctor to diagnose you, to know what you have and what medications would help.

But, God has helped you, which is a miracle, for sure! I know the difference God made in my life, when he took me out of sin and despair into his marvelous light! He is a miracle working God.

However, praying for the demons is not appropriate. There is no place in the Bible we are told to pray for demons. But more than that, you have an obsession with demons, and think they are attacking you, and have been for over 7 years, according to this thread. This is the biggest sign of mental illness you display.

So, my suggestion is to talk to a doctor. God does use doctors! God delivered me totally and instantly from alcoholism. But, for other things, I have seen a doctor, and the doctors have helped. God does not want us to suffer needlessly, which I think you are doing.

Again, God is in control. He has the demons under his feet. When you are saved, demons cannot possess you. The fact that you give so much attention to demons, suggests that this comes out of mental illness.

I pray you will see a doctor. You may be one step away from a med that will stop these horrible visions/impressions or whatever of demons. Then, you will be able to walk fully with God. Right now, you are living under oppression. God wants to set you free. And a doctor may be part of that.

God bless!

praying for demons is inappropriate? I agree it's not talked about anywhere in Scripture. but people often pray for all kinds of things the scriptures don't talk about. I figure if you feel led to pray about something, go ahead and pray! if something's wrong with the prayer, God will fix it on his end.

medication or not is always a question. definitely, the right medication can work wonders for a person, really turn their life around. On the other hand, the wrong medication or an unnecessary medication can leave a permanent tremor or other dyskinesia.

I'm not an expert, but my opinion is that if the only part of a person's life that is having significant challenges is the spiritual, then I would be reluctant to try medication. I think I'd stick with prayer or possibly try a psychotherapist, that can't hurt.

But if there are lots of challenges in every aspect of a person's life, like trouble holding jobs or staying in relationships with other people then medication definitely seems worth a try!

Psalm 121: 5. The Lord is your keeper; the Lord is your shade on your right hand. 6. You will not be touched by the sun in the day, or by the moon at night. 7. The Lord will keep you safe from all evil; he will take care of your soul. 8. The Lord will keep watch over your going out and your coming in, from this time and for ever.

I"m not sure whether to believe that description or not, sounds pretty much like trolling for info-- or trying to poke fun at Christian spirituality like many new-ager's or atheists do, but, just in case someone here actually does have a real spiritual issue, which is very common, Freedom in Christ/deliverance ministries can help, such as the book, "The Bondage Breaker," or "Victory Over the Darkness," which describe the difference between psychological and spiritual issues. In the first book, one lady who was called "hopeless," by doctors told Dr. Anderson that snakes came up on her bed. He asked her if she had ever tried to tell them out loud to leave, which seems pretty simple, but-- it's the power behind the words spoken that makes the difference. He describes how a police officer in the street for traffic control-- if they are inexperienced, and don't believe in the authority they have to stop the traffic, the cars may not stop. But, one who believes and knows they have the authority, will take charge and stop the cars. It's the uniform, the God-given authority behind state authority (even those who abuse that authority, temporarily carry it).

So, the lady ordered the snakes, which as it turned out were just a hallucination fueled by human fears, and manipulated by familiar spirits (psychic spirits/spiritism), and they vanished. There was nothing relating to sexuality, only a hallucination of snakes. It's usually psychologists or non-believers who perceive people with mental/emotional/spiritual issues as having sexual hangups.

This reminds me of Bob in the movie, "What About Bob," where he is talking to a group of psychologists about the ink-blot test-- the correct response to that test is that there is nothing whatsoever implied in the images but random ink blots. But, people read into them many different things, which shows how smart psychologists can be-- and how psychology can be an important aid to recovery, as long as a Christian understands that all healing comes from God, as they say in AA groups and other groups like CODA-- "with or without medical help."

Angela, are you a lisenced mental health professional? Would a mental health professional diagnose someone based on Internet posts like this? That does not seem very professional to me. They must have some standards for evaluation that are deeper than that.

In Matthew 4, a wide variety of sick and troubled people were brought to Jesus. The KJV includes those who were 'lunatic'. Another group were the demonized. I cannot say that everyone who has mental illness is demonized. But I cannot say that if someone has mental illness he or she is not demonized. If medications help a mentally ill individual, that does not prove that the individual is not under the influence of demons.

If someone dabbles in the occult, and then right after that senses a demonic presence and various other problems that seem to that individual to be a demonic attack, I am definitely not going to tell them that it is not a demonic attack.

One thing we see in Matthew 4 is that Jesus can heal the mentally ill and cast out devils, So going to someone who is gifted and/or experienced in deliverance ministry and prayer is a good thing.

In Indonesia several months back, someone I knew from work-- outsourced from another company but someone I spent time around, told me about his brother who was mentally ill and institutionalized. He took his brother to a meeting where a certain preacher who was known for casting out demons was ministering. His brother was apparently delivered and was in his right mind after the preacher ministered to him. I wasn't there and I do not know what he said. But seeking spiritual help first is a wise way to go for cases of mental illness, demonization, or both.

Yes, Amen to the link

Galatians 2: 20. I have been crucified with Christ, and it is no longer I that live, but Christ living in me. That life which I now live in the flesh, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself up for me.
