Rocky Heart
(By Byron Gene Mace based on 1 Peter 1.8 [AMP] draft 5 August 13, 2013)
Long--through the rocks in my heart--
long moments--days and weeks and sad months of self-pity
And the Lord breaks through
the rocks I placed in His way;
Because He is the Way, and saves me
Each day
I faithfully praise and raise my heart in joyful voice
to the Lord, my Savior, my Salvation--
the rocky way is smoothed to make way
to triumphant joy
Greater Is God by Byron Gene Mace [Draft 23 August 28, 2013]
It goes without saying
That God is greater than I—but He is come in flesh—
And yet He dwells in me, His vessel;
He is my Potter—but if I dwell on me—
I do not give Him His reverence due
To He-Who is greater than I,
And He (must) then fell my rebelling pride—
And fills me, wholly, with His All—
And must-be-All-in-All
And fell my soulish man and fill me
To overflow and this OVERCOMES
All of me-that-seeks-to-do-my-will.
NOT my will, O Lord, but only
Yours will fulfill.
My heart of stone needs Your tender art to hammer off stone
And fashion Your heart of flesh.
O, Holy Jesus, take out the heart of MINE-
That seeks to be its own and make me wholly THINE
And whole and grown into the Image of You, God’s Own Son.
