An American man was killed on an island inhabited by a tribe known to resist outside contact in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. And, his body still lies there. The American was identified as 27-year-old John Allen Chau, who sources said was a Christian missionary who wanted to convert the Sentinelese tribe that inhabits the island where he was killed. Chau was killed by members of this tribe, which is protected under Indian law, a senior police officer told India Today TV. He knew the risk and he thought it worth it.

it's an isolated tribe who have made it clear that they do not want outside interference and it's my understanding that there are even laws in place preventing Outsiders from going there.
They even fired a warning shot and he was foolish enough to go back a second time so is kind of hard for me to feel sorry for him

I don't feel sorry for him. Without the zeal that he had, you and I would not have received the Gospel of Christ. The missionary doesn't want to die. But his zeal to bring the Gospel is greater than his fear of dying.

It doesn't matter how many times he was warned. In this arena, we obey the commands of God, not man. Everywhere missionaries have gone, there is always a price to pay.

That is just the way it is.

Read the story of Jim Elliot, who was killed by the Auca Indians in Ecuador in 1956, along with 4 others. Many came to Christ after. Plus, Shell Oil was planning on killing all 600 members of the tribe, because they were stopping exploration, and that was stopped because the missionaries protected them!

I have been on a few sites and read the comments concerning this missionary. They are for the most part, cruel and taunting. Hah! He got what he deserved! Served him right! Stupid idiot! Purely disgusting statements by disgusting people.

He was a graduate of Oral Roberts University, so I doubt that I would agree with much of his teachings--but it would appear that he only wanted to do one thing--to share the gospel.

Sixty-five years ago a similar event occurred which God used in a mighty way.

Thirteen years before the martyrdom of Jim Elliot and his friends by Auca Indians in Ecuador, five members of New Tribes Mission laid down their while trying to reach the Ayore tribe of Bolivia with the Gospel of Christ. These men were Cecil Dye, Bob Dye, Dave Bacon, George Hosback, and Eldon Hunter.

"Wherein I suffer trouble, as an evil doer, even unto bonds; but the word of God is not bound" (II Timothy 2:9).

Perhaps one of the things they Indians will find in Chau's effects will be a copy of the Word of God in their language and a key will turn in yet another door thus far closed and locked to the Gospel.

"Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God!"

I don't know anything about John Allen Chau, so I have no way to comment on his particular actions.

But as others have pointed out above, many sincere missionaries, even in modern times, have given their lives to reach remote people groups who later came to Christ. It is a simple fact, throughout history, that the church of Christ grows by the blood of the martyrs.

This man is not a martyr. He trespassed illegally after the natives had made it abundantly clear that they wanted to be left alone.
you wouldn't appreciate someone trying to come into your home and convert you to another religion after you had told them repeatedly you don't want them there

The guy was killed after they twice shot at him - third time unlucky.

Paul knew when to back out of a bad situation.

Acts 9:24 but their plot became known to Saul. They were also watching the gates day and night so that they might put him to death;

Acts 9:25 but his disciples took him by night and let him down through an opening in the wall, lowering him in a large basket.

this is supposed to be a Christian site yet when something like this happens the first thing that we do is rush to judgement.
Even myself. my first thought was, play stupid games win stupid prizes. But as I sat here thinking about it, meditating on it, pondering to myself. I realized something we are in God's hands to do with as he pleases and all that matters is when you stand before Christ he says well done my good and faithful servant. If this man was doing the will of the father then he suffered no loss he has gained Glory
