Hebrews Chapter 10: by Chris Dobson

Today I want to share with you about the Gospel of Christ.
At the moment I’m going through the book of Hebrews in my personal study time and I considered this Chapter to be a good one to have a look at.
But before we start I would like to Pray.
Thank You Father for allowing us to have access to your Word the Bible. Thank you for your Son Jesus and your message of eternal life. Please help me today faithfully go through this Chapter so people can get to know you better and what you want from us.
In Jesus name.
Amen.
Put your hand up if you want to be with Christ in heaven forever! My hand is the first to go up.
According to the Bible God is his great wisdom has set out a plan for us to be with him in Heaven forever. This life we live in is here today and gone tomorrow so there is something much better waiting for us.
So the question is how does it all work?
Let’s use a beach as an example. Must I say first that a beach compared to the reality isn’t a worthy example but we will use it.
What’s the longest beach on the planet? According to our friend Google, Brazil has the longest beach at 150 miles (Praia do Cassino Beach, Brazil).
Imagine how many grains of sand would be on it!!?
So let’s take out just 1 grain of sand and we will call it time. That one grain of sand represents all of time throughout all of the ages from when God first created the universe and something came from nothing and until God winds it up like a scroll and creates Eternal life.
The rest of the sand is eternal life but with a beach of sand that never ends!
In that one grain of sand God created the heavens and the earth. God created mankind, we rebelled, he sent Jesus and the message of the Gospel, left us his Holy Spirit and will return one day to offer eternal life to those who lived according his purposes and trusted in Jesus.
From Gods perspective he has created a bride for himself which is his Church, redeemed it of its sin through Jesus and offers it an immortal body to reign with him forever.
So what’s the catch? What does God expect of us to offer us something like that?
The message of the Gospel is simple. Implementing it to our lives is hard however God has made it possible for us by being empowered by his Spirit and his saving grace and finished work of the cross.
The start of the Chapter of the book of Hebrews talks about the Law. God's law was first given to us through one of his prophets Moses. Back in the day the law, sacrifices for sin and a high priest was used to help God's people live a Holy Life and connect God's people to himself.
The problem was Gods people were sinners and could not become Holy through the methods God had granted though God would use this method to save them.
So then according to Paul who wrote to the Hebrew Church the Law was only a shadow of a better way coming to God's People through Christ Jesus.
There is no doubt in my mind that God enjoys being sacrificed to.
What sort of sacrifices does he enjoy?
Other than his Son being sacrificed for us and we accepting it there is no greater sacrifice he enjoys.
However God wants us to always be seeking to sacrifice things on our behalf to him in playing our part in the relationship.
We are to sacrifice our time, our money towards God and his kingdom and helping him grow it. We are to hand over our sinful lives and repent of our sins.
When we love and forgive others we sacrifice our selfish ambitions. When we look for the lost and broken soul we sacrifice our own needs for others.
These kinds of sacrifices are pleasing to God however it doesn’t matter how many, none will compare to God coming into the world as God the Son and giving his life for us, making a way for us into eternity with him.
So in the Old Testament God set out a way for us to abide by his laws and sacrifices. In the new Covenant God wants us to accept his Son Jesus Christ as the sacrifice for our sins. We then live Holy lives that are pleasing to him which show him we appreciate his sacrifice for us through the life, death, and resurrection message of the cross.
God out of his great love and mercy has given us the Holy Spirit who also witnesses this to us through the scriptures and lives in us guiding us and protecting us.
The Holy Spirit not only witnesses this to us but now lives in us, explaining, teaching and helping us grow into new creations that race towards eternal life for those who are truly Christs and do his will and honour him.
This my friends is the simple message of the Gospel. This is what we all are really yearning for that belong to Christ.
In saying this, this Gospel of Christs cannot be taken lightly. Nor his death and resurrection. For what God has offered to us in light of eternity and the death of his Son for our sakes is more than enough for us to choose to follow him and love him.
If we reject it and his message then do we deserve Eternity with him? If God has chosen to create us and offer us Eternity with a loving Holy God and we reject him for a grain of sand then we are no better than Judas who betrayed Jesus for a few coins. What’s a few coins to the God of Eternity?
For those of us that hear this good news and shrink back from it will be destroyed in an eternal Hell according to the Bible inspired by the Holy Spirit and Jesus Christ.
The message of the cross is simple. Accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and saviour. Repent of your sins and the things you know you do that are wrong in his sight. By that we read Gods word the Bible and put it in our hearts and minds so we know what is right and wrong. We align our mind with his and bring other people to the cross of Christ and the way of forgiveness he has shown us through it.
We are to stay away from evil and do good works. Don’t run after false prophets and false teachers that steer you away from this message.
In a dying and broken world many will come looking for gain and use Jesus for that gain. However our Lord will have the final say on the day of our resurrection when he comes in power and might and destroys death and all evil.
So what does Jesus expect from us?
We are to look after the broken hearted, the lost, the sinners, the persecuted Church and the poor.
We are to bring people to this great good news of the Gospel for something better is coming that no one has even imagined or conceived.
Do you look after the homeless person, do you look after the poor and the stranger. How many people have you spoken to about Jesus this week and this great news of his? Does your life and those you encourage represent the life he lived?
Why do you think God cares so much about these things? Yes God is a God of pure love however he has other characteristics that are far beyond our imagination. Our eyes will only be completely opened when sin is removed, death is removed and we reign with him in an eternal kingdom.
In this life we are like a caterpillar learning to live and grow in Christ. Then we go into a cocoon of death and await our resurrection from the Lord Jesus. It’s here we are transformed into an Eternal Spiritual being with an Eternal Spiritual Body. This is the message of the Gospel friends. We are awaiting to leave our cocoons and become eternal butterflies.
Every moment of every minute, hour and day is recorded by Jesus Christ. On that day of resurrection he rewards us for the good and evil we have done then we go into eternity.
So friends don’t bank everything on the caterpillar….but on the butterfly!!
This life goes to quick friends. Trust in Jesus today, repent of your sins, and get planted in a Church of committed Christians. Learn the ways of Jesus Christ.
Live as he lived…God's perspective is Eternal…..the days of the grain of sand are winding down.
Whether you are a Muslim, a Hindu, and Catholic or Christian…whether you come from any other religion or have rejected this good news God still loves you.
In his great wisdom he sent his Son Jesus Christ to give you this message of eternal life. Trust he made a way for you by believing in his sacrifice for your sins on the Cross, believe he conquered death and rose again on the third day. That he ascended into heaven in front of many witnesses and sits at Gods right hand ministering on our behalf for us. That he will come again and judge the living and the dead and bring with him into eternal life those who love him and live like him.
All Glory belongs to you alone Jesus. Thank You Father for sending Jesus Christ into the world from heaven and leaving us your Holy Spirit that guides us into all truth and understanding.
Help us reach many and save many. Give us the strength to walk away from sinful lives and proclaim your divine message of eternal life to the world. Protect us from the devil and give us the strength to stand firm in the good and bad times.
May we be found worthy on that great day?
Thankyou Father, Thank you Jesus and thankyou Holy Spirit. You are Eternal.
There is only one God and you alone are him.
In Jesus name. Amen

Isn't there some mention in the bible about long prayers?
The Pharisees also made their prayers excessively long, a practice picked up from the pagans.

As for your study, Hebrews 10 affirms the superiority of Christ and the assuance of His sacrifice as competely suffiicient to ensure salvation for His people.
