huh

blame my nationality on that one (Canadian, ay?)

politics here is a national sport it seems

Yaa! Hey Dare! No problem, brother from the great white north! :)p...I almost feel, that I must insert "disclaimers", in these oh so "politically correct" days. So, to avoid the "holier then thou", and "racially bigoted" deflectings, from those who view themselves, AS such! With their double standarded unstable lifestyles, and corrupted ways, and natures!) The term "G-Man", (least where I learned it from), came from old Jimmy Cagney, Edward G. Robinson, Humphrey Bogart, movies, where they were playing gangsters during the "days of prohibition." Think there was even a movie called "G Man", where Jimmy Cagney signed up to become a federal law enforcement agent. Before it was known as the federal bureau of investigation....Maybe not, though! (they say there's 3 ways to tell when one is getting older! 1 is the loss of memory! I forget the other 2! :p)

"In the first churches after Christ the Jews and Christians met together in the synagogues to worship God"

No doubt the Jews were in the synagogues in Asia and Israel. And at least one Christian....Paul. But Gentile converts to Christ commonly and typically in the synagogues? Not that I know of. Churches gatherings were not synagogues or vice versa. As it is today.
The synagogue was the community center and on the Sabbath they met to pray o God. Jesus went and so did Paul and all Paul's associates as is told of in scripture. Acts 6:9, 13:15, 18:4.

Acts 13:14 14 From Perga they went on to Pisidian Antioch. On the Sabbath they entered the synagogue and sat down.

Paul was a Jewish Pharisee who had graduated tops at the best school. The Lord used his knowledge of the OT, he never renounced either his Jewishness or being a Pharisee as he accepted Christ as the messiah. His letters teach following the ways of teaching he had been taught by Gamaliel in school to become a rabbi.

Oh, he renounced Judaism all right . . .

"Though I might also have confidence in the flesh. If any other man thinketh that he hath whereof he might trust in the flesh, I more: Circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, an Hebrew of the Hebrews; as touching the law, a Pharisee; Concerning zeal, persecuting the church; touching the righteousness which is in the law, blameless. But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ. Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ" (Philippians 3:4-8).

And as to his attitude toward his former religion . . .

"For ye have heard of my conversation in time past in the Jews' religion, how that beyond measure I persecuted the church of God, and wasted it: And profited in the Jews' religion above many my equals in mine own nation, being more exceedingly zealous of the traditions of my fathers" (Galatians 1:13-14).

In Galatians 4:21-30 he shows how Judaism was bondage . . .

"Nevertheless what saith the scripture? Cast out the bondwoman and her son: for the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son of the freewoman" (Galatians 4:30).

God renounced Judaism. We are given the Holy Spirit as a guide to obedience, Judaism used rituals as a guide to obedience.

Paul never once changed his believes, as we should not. Many of us are doing this by mislabeling them Judaism.

I'm afraid they trust in the water of baptism . . . not the blood. Do you have a link to a sermon where a man is saved by simple faith in Jesus Christ (like the thief on the cross?)
I am not a believer of the Church you are addressing. However, I wanted to respond after noticing your comment about the thief on the cross.

I follow Peter's instructions in Acts 2:38 as well. Unfortunately a lot of people miss the fact that most of us who follow the steps outlined do definitely rely first and foremost on the sacrifice of our Lord and Savior. Without the shedding of His blood all of mankind would be lost. But praise God because of His grace we are given a path back to right standing with our maker.

As far as the thief on the cross, his obligation differed from the New Testament Church...

Have you ever wondered how the thief on the cross entered into Paradise without following the New Testament covenantal responsibilities outlined in Acts 2:38? “Repent, and be baptized everyone of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sin, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.”

Even if the thief wanted to be obedient, coming down off of the cross was not an option. How then is it possible that Jesus could tell the thief that he would be with Him that day in Paradise?

In order to be saved, the man beside Jesus would have been responsible to meet God’s Old Testament commands because Jesus had not died and resurrected yet.

The New Testament rebirth requirements began after Jesus’ death, burial, resurrection and ascension into the heavens. We know this because on the day that the church was born, Peter stated that we must repent, be water baptized in Jesus name, and receive the Holy Ghost in order to be saved. The Holy Ghost was not sent until after Jesus ascended back into Heaven and poured His blood upon the mercy seat. (Hebrews 9:11-12) After Jesus entered the Holy of Holies in the Heavenlies, the Holy Ghost (gift of the Holy Ghost) was then poured out upon the people present on the Day of Pentecost. (Acts 2:3-4)

Let’s look at when the New Covenant officially began. We know from scripture that John the Baptist’s ministry was to prepare the way of the Lord. He was referred to as the Baptist, because in addition to proclaiming the coming of the Lord, his ministry was to initiate the concept of water baptism. Water baptism was necessary for the remission of sin. (Acts 2:38) However, sins could not be remitted without the shedding of blood. After Jesus’ blood was shed it had to be poured onto the mercy seat. This had not taken place prior to John’s ministry.

Jesus appeared after His resurrection and fulfilling the mission as our high priest, returned for a period of 40 days and then ascended back into Heaven. After this occurred, individuals who had been baptized by John were commanded to be re-baptized in Jesus name. (Acts 19:2-6) The New Testament church had officially begun.

Keep in mind that a Will and Testament becomes valid only after one’s death. This being said, you may wonder what the thief’s covenantal responsibility would entail. The Old Testament was still in effect at the time of the thief’s death.

Each person, including the thief on the cross, that perished before Jesus entered into the holy place and obtained eternal redemption for mankind, was judged by the Old Testament mandates. The obligation to God was to have faith in the coming Messiah and to be circumcised.

Genesis 17:10 states, “This is my covenant, which ye shall keep, between me and you and thy seed after thee; Every man child among you shall be circumcised... He that is born in thy house, and he that is bought with thy money, must needs be circumcised: and my covenant shall be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant. And the uncircumcised man child whose flesh of his foreskin is not circumcised, that soul shall be cut off from his people; he hath broken my covenant.”

The New Testament parallel of the Old Testament circumcision is found in Colossians Chapter 2: “In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ: Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.”

If you believe that the work, act, or ritual of baptism has any salvific quality or quantity you are grievously mistaken. There is absolutely nothing we do or can do that will qualify us for Gods righteousness, for it is a gift to be received in faith, this faith manifesting itself in obedience.
Which of course includes baptism.

The Word tells us we are to obey the gospel: “But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report? So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” Romans 10:16-17

The gospel, or good news, is stated as the work Jesus accomplished through His death, burial and resurrection as seen in the biblical record: “Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:” (1 Corinthians 15:1-4)

Okay, hold-up. Remember what Paul said, “Not all have obeyed the gospel.” How do we obey the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ? In answer, all must repent (death to self), be water baptized in Jesus name (burial), and receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit (resurrection). This truth is scattered throughout the scriptures. Mark 16:15-16; Matthew 28:18-20; and Acts 2:38 are just a few in the vast arena of scriptures that pertain to this message of salvation.

I believe the Bible to be the inerrant Word of God. I accept the words of the Bible as being literal and having literal meaning. I do not believe the Church has replaced Israel. I look forward to the soon return of our Lord Jesus. Based upon scripture and natural predilection, I look forward to the Lord gathering us to him before His great and righteous wrath.

This is from the Church of Christ, a cult which believes that a person is saved not by trusting in Jesus Christ but by being baptized in water. They replace the Blood of Christ with powerless water. They are not a Christian church . . . they are an unbiblical cult.

Is the Church of Christ a good biblical church?

Is the Church of Christ a good biblical church? Do all the Churches of Christ have the same ‘faith plus works’ salvation theology?
Edited from http://www.gotquestions.org/Church-of-Christ.html Used by permission
Answer: This is a difficult question to answer due to the phrase "Church of Christ" being of such a broad description. There are many churches who refer to themselves as the "Church of Christ." Even within the most widespread "Church of Christ" denomination, there can be significant differences between the churches.

There is no doubt that many in the Church of Christ denomination are genuine believers in Christ who desire to truly worship, follow, and obey Him. At the same time, there are other Church of Christ churches that are borderline cult-like in their preferences, practices, and doctrines.

While we will not with one broad brush condemn all the Churches of Christ or every church that refers to itself as the "Church of Christ", we will nevertheless express some of our concerns about what the Church of Christ traditionally believes and teaches.

One “minor” Church of Christ issue is not allowing musical instruments in worship services. CONTINUED

However, if we stop our Christian growth at the point of simply believing and that is all. We go on to live for ourselves only never giving ourselves over to the Lord's ways, but believing in Him otherwise, we can still have salvation, we are then like babies. We never grow in the Lord to receive His blessings. We are then saved, but it is a dark and terrible way to live.

Phil 3

Look out for the dogs, look out for the evildoers, look out for those who mutilate the flesh. 3For we are the circumcision, who worship by the Spirit of God and glory in Christ Jesus and put no confidence in the flesh— 4though I myself have reason for confidence in the flesh also. If anyone else thinks he has reason for confidence in the flesh, I have more: 5circumcised on the eighth day, of the people of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of Hebrews; as to the law, a Pharisee; 6as to zeal, a persecutor of the church; as to righteousness under the law,c blameless. 7But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. 8Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ 9and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith

I don't think you are right in saying this. I have spent many a day in study of Paul. I find that God used all the knowledge and talents Paul had. I agree with the judge mentioned in Acts who ruled that Paul always agreed with the OT and never taught anything to be against it. In his letters I find he used the outline he learned from the school he attended to learn to be a rabbi (Gamaliel). The Bereans only believed Paul because they found he agreed with scripture.

Christ fulfilled all the OT spoke of Him, so Paul added Christ to his knowledge of God. He did not deny any of what he had learned of God.

This may be true, but there is no doubt that the Law contained in ordinances became obsolete. And Paul did not preach the requirement of keeping the Law to the gentiles.

Colossians 2:12 is not referring to "water baptism".

It says,

"having been buried with Him in the baptism, in which also you were raised with Him through the faith of the working of God, the One having raised Him out from the dead." and in verse 13, "God made you alive with Christ"

https://biblehub.com/text/colossians/2-12.htm

"the baptism" (according to this context as well as what we see in Romans 6:3) refers to His death. Rom6:3 states, "Or are you unaware that as many as have been baptized into Christ Jesus [not into "water"] have been baptized into His death?"

The word baptism (N.T. number 909) used in Colossians 2:12 from the Strong's Numbers and Concordance:

NT: 909 baptismos ; from NT:907; ablution (ceremonial or Christian):
KJV – baptism, washing.

NT:907; a baptizer, as an epithet of Christ’s forerunner (my note: John the Baptist)

The KJV does not include the word "the" before baptism in the scripture:

"Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead." Col 2:12 KJV

The information regarding the associated number and its Greek definition that I posted came directly from the Strong's.
