So I have asked Wal-Mart for the Jewish Sabbath off which they have agreed too; but because of Christmas and lack of workers I will have to work this Saturday I feel I have betrayed God because I will work Saturday (I know Jesus is my real Sabbath) but just want to honor God by giving Him this day. Now because of Christmas and my high occurrences I have to work Saturday I hate myself and loathe Wal-mart. Please pray somehow I have a job and don’t have to work this Saturday. Every other year we had Christmas off plus our normal days but this year in a way they took it away from us. Tired of fighting with this company when they said I can have the Jewish Sabbath off but do everything to prevent it.

Sorry to hear of your sadness related to your job and your religious beliefs. It sounds like you value both your job and beliefs very much. Have you seen the movie, "Chariots of Fire?" But, his was a voluntary race. The Lord said we are excused from doing necessary things out of our control on the Sabbath. If you made effort to get Saturday off, your loyalty to your job is higher than the Sabbath, since it would create hardships for others to obey the religious law that Jesus already fulfilled. But, honoring the Sabbath is still important. I admire you for that. it is honorable. “Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore with lovingkindness I have drawn you” (Jeremiah 31:3) And Paul said to take issues from even an abusive master {now known as an employer] he said it is honorable to take even unreasonable discipline patiently since it sets a good Christian example. I used to be the worst complainer about my jobs, and it is a sign of maybe a need to submit more to God's authority which is a higher authority than Walmart, for sure.

And here's some good advice from the book, "Jesus Calling," by Sarah Young-- for December 16th: "I desire to talk with all of My children, but many are too busy to listen. The "work ethic" has them tied up in knots. they submit wholeheartedly to this taskmaster, wondering why they feel so distant from Me. Living close to Me requires making Me your First Love--your highest priority." She also writes a lot about if we give thanks continually through the day, thanking, praising and loving God, we don't have time to get side-tracked by all the rabbit trails in life. I'm not able to do this very well yet, but, it's a matter of relying on the power of God and not our own. Not trying to rescue you here, but I just thought this would help, since it's from the LORD and not just me alone.

On Sabbath, do you completely keep the Sabbath? Do you avoid all work; cooking; cleaning; long walks?

Why would you hate yourself?
And no point in even loathing Walmart. It's a machine. They care about money, not people. Nothing new. If you quit there are 10 more ready to take your place, so they don't care about you.
And retail doesn't mesh well with weekends off. I'm surprised they hired you to begin with if you requested no Saturdays. So if you stay in that arena expect more of the same.
I worked at two walmarts and everyone with weekend restrictions eventually gets pressured or pushed into working when they say they cant.

I just try to give this day to God; fail miserably. But as for working on the Sabbath when I started I did work it but they agreed I could have it off even have it as unavailable for work but because of Christmas (BAH HUMBUG!) they are allowing themself to change and or violate every bodies availibity. Because I thought they would keep this one agreement I have stay put as in the last 2 months they have bounce me back and forth between 1st and 2nd shift and fresh cap is suppose to be either or but not both. I thought at least I have Saturday off hard to find a job with this plus.
But now I had settled it in my mind to honor God on this day, Roman 14:-5; so like most everything else I have failed my wonderful God.

I'm glad God answered the prayers of his people.

But I think you have a much bigger issue with needing to celebrate the Hewish sabbath, instead of the Lord's Day, the first day of the week, like the NT Christians did.

We honour God but walking with him. Not by slavish devotion to a day of the week, which is never mentioned in the NT. If God had wanted NT Christians to keep the sabbath, he would have said do.

Your posts in this thread resonated with me because I have been thinking these past two days about obedience and besetting sins and repentance. I can relate to the feelings of frustration you share over repeatedly failing the GOD whom you want to please. I feel like you need to hear the following: the LORD's love for you has nothing to do with your performance as a Christian; His love for us is Trustworthy, Faithful, and True, and it does not diminish or increase based on any action or motivation of our hearts. This is as much a word for me as it is for you, because for some reason, after stumbling in an area that I know that I must carefully guard against, I have been plagued by intense feelings of guilt and lack of feeling forgiven even though I have confessed and forsaken, for the moment, the sin that was an is the problem. Here is what I know, but can't feel right now; intense feelings of guilt that cause a feeling of self-loathing are yet another tactic of the enemy! So, we must run to the LORD, our brothers and sisters, and remember that He is always Trustworthy, Faithful, and True. That overwhelming sense of negativity is not from the LORD. Christ died so that we can be free from that. So easy to type those words, so difficult to trust.

On a slightly different note, have you ever considered that perhaps you are called by the LORD to work the days that you are assigned? The Sabbath is for our benefit, and it matters not which day you set apart as devoted to the LORD, it remains beneficial to us and honors GOD whenever you offer up time to Him. So fret not about this keeping of the Sabbath. Many servants of God are called to work on the Sabbath, or holidays. I think of medical professionals and pastors and those in ministry. All of these have been assigned to work these days for the benefit of others. And you too, at Walmart, may just be the tool the LORD wants to use on a Saturday for some person in need. Keep the faith and do not lose heart! Blessings to you.
