The God I see in the Bible and the world seems cruel. I don't think God is good when I look at the world. I do not understand Him.

In a way I'd like to confirm what you are saying:

See now that I am He; there is no God besides Me. I bring death and I give life; I wound and I heal, and there is no one who can deliver from My hand. Deut 32:39

I wouldn't advise making a lot of effort to come to a "humanistic" God. The Fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom and I can't see how it's possible to understand the cross without knowing that God is totally "inhumane".

God is a righteous judge, a God who displays his wrath every day. Psalm 7:11

Although He was a Son, He learned obedience from what He suffered. Hebrews 5:8

It would seem that "cruel" God even allowed His Son to suffer so that His Son can learn obedience. It seems obedience is more important to Him than understanding.

Nobody fully understands God. He IS a good God. He allows cruelty and evil, for reasons that He alone knows.

Seek out an Eternal perspective..

Life in this world is short. each individual only have to experience a limited time here.. And we experience both good times and bad times, joys and sufferings.. But eternity shall be perfect for those who love the truth of God..

Hard for me not to get angry at this post. Sorry.

God sent His ONLY Son to be mocked, scorned, tortured and put to death in the cruelest fashion man could devise, all so to pay for the sins WE commit, and give us eternal life.

And HE is the cruel One!?

Your just the kind of person, that God could use. Your honestly is like the perfume, Honesty. The bible verse from 1 Corinthians :13 verse 12 says this, " For now we see through a glass darkly, but one day, we shall see him face to face, and understand the hidden mystery. Try reading this scripture in different versions, God bless you.

We are to b the lights in the world. The devil knows his time is short so is going about seeking those he can devour. It's up to us believers to portray the truth and love of God by the power of the shed blood of Jesus and through the wisdom and fruit of the Holy Spirit. 'The Lord is good and His mercy endures forever', which means He is for us and not against us! In fact He is far better than we can ever think He is.

satan hit me this past spring, hard. Long long story short, one lesson learned is that God can only know if we truly and freely love Him by giving us the ability to hate Him.

Umzza, I can understand that life can be challenging and look so unfair but one thing I can say is that God is not cruel. People will be mean and cruel to us because they choose to do so by will. Bad thing happens to good people too. Sometimes God allow certain things into our life for a purpose but at the end all thing will work out for those who love the Lord. God loves you and has good plans for you. You may never understand God’s ways. Whatever it is keep trusting and talking to God. These are some bible verse that I read for encouragement.
Matthew 11
28
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

1 Corinthians 2:9 But as it is written: “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.”
John 14:27 Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

Interesting enough expectations have devastated this life but God sees it fit that I open my eyes each day. Then I stand up. My life is good because I can see what I have instead of what has been lost. Have you ever read the story of Jonah and the way God saved tens of thousands of people in the city?

Jesus did come to a terribly CRUEL world. It sought to destroy Him. Praise His precious name, we have eternal life and HOPE in the darkness today. It doesn't always seem clear, i.e. the message of the bible, but God is so much love and peace. It's painful to NOT see that when you come to UNDERSTAND that you don't see it. Seek a theologian. I like Rick Renner...he interprets the Greek writings of the bible. Tim Gilligan...he's a comforting minister who speaks softly and carries a deep message. Charles Stanley is a good one too. The world will become more cruel as it gets closer to Jesus' return. I pray your eyes open to the beauty of the Lord and the joy He offers to us all. Blessings. -student

We see the effects of sin. We see, and experience a sin infected, broken world, and attribute the brokenness to GOD. An unkind GOD would have left us to drown in our own muck, which it often feels like we are doing. But, GOD didn't leave us alone to drown! He has thrown us a life-line, JESUS. As we all know, the problem of evil is real and present, which is why we all need a Savior. JESUS bought us back so that in the end, evil will not exist anymore and we can be 100% healed.

  • Hey J I just joined adn saw your post, you’ve already got good answers to your question but a little while ago was having a bit of a struggle with the same questions and so thought I’d share with you what helped me at that time.

  • I read a verse in Isaiah 45:7 that says ‘I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things.”

  • So I noticed that the two parts of the verse were used to explain each other; God created darkness by allowing there to be an absence of light and in the same way God created evil by allowing there to be an absence of good. ‘Darkness’ doesn’t exist unless you take the light way, and evil doesn’t exist unless you take the good away. This helped me to realize that God did not create evil in the sense that He wanted it to exist, he created evil in the sense that he wanted choice, autonomy, individualism and true goodness to exist. He made goodness a precious gift that has to be chosen; He wanted us to be able to be a complete eternal person , able to choose good or evil, accept eternal life or reject eternal life.

  • I realized that is actually showed the passion God has for us and the love He showed, in creating us with the ability to choose whether we would love Him and follow Him or whether we would reject Him and follow evil. The choice to sin always has and always will result in cruelty, evil and heartache for innocent people as well as the ones who are choosing evil, but I just continue to try to remember that this life is just a little drop in the ocean compared to the eternity that God’s prepared for us! And I realized that if i had the choice between being a complete eternal person with evil in the world, or a choice-less robot human living a world that was regulated ‘good’, would prefer the former! If people couldn’t chose goodness over evil, then I think a lot of the deep human emotions and feelings wouldn’t exist anyway and amazing acts of humanity wouldn’t grow us and unite us and bless us like they do.

  • I don’t know what it is that you’re going through at the moment, you probably may have experienced a lot more heartache then I have, but I know God is the same God for all of us so thought I’d share with you and god might use itJ. God bless!

To sum up the New Testament, only God can express his love by giving the gift of his Holy Spirit
