Often one hears about the Pharisees, but Jesus also lumped in the Saduccees with them. He said beware the leaven of the Pharisees and the Saducees.
We know about Pharisees because Paul was one of them...when he was Saul, religious, zealous, legalistic and persecuting those that followed Jesus thinking they were doing God a favour, but what was it about the Saducees that did not like Jesus?

Are there still Saduccee religious types today?
Were there any named Saducees in the Bible?

I recall they denied the resurrection, or any possibilty of it. Would they be like humanists today?

Be on your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees and saducees Matt16:5

Then they understood that he was not telling them to guard against the yeast used in bread, but against the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees. verse12

The yeast of the pharisees is hypocrisy Luke1:12

The phariseres were the main religious party, so most often just they were criticised/mentioned by Christ. But at times saducees were also mentioned. Though not believing in the resurrection was error, I think Jesus main criticism was the legalism of both which led to hypocrisy

Sadducees where religious Jews.. But what defined them as being seperate from Pharisees was their belief that there would be no reasurection of the dead.. There is no other indication in the Bible that they had any other alternative doctrines to the Pharisees

I did some research a bible dictionary says they were aristocratic party of the Jews at the time of Christ. They collaborated with the Romans to maintain their favourable status.

According to Josephus, the Sadducees believed that:
  • There is no fate.
  • God does not commit evil.
  • Man has free will; "man has the free choice of good or evil".
  • The soul is not immortal; there is no afterlife.
  • There are no rewards or penalties after death.
The Sadducees did not believe in resurrection of the dead, but believed in the traditional Jewish concept of Sheol for those who had died.

According to the Christian Acts of the Apostles:
  • The Sadducees did not believe in resurrection, whereas the Pharisees did. In Acts, Paul chose this point of division to gain the protection of the Pharisees.[12]
  • The Sadducees also rejected the notion of spirits or angels, whereas the Pharisees acknowledged them.[13]
    (From Wikipedia)
The above is a description of Sadducees' beliefs. Similar to the Gnostic approach to view God as too high to care much about humans and their fate.

Acts 5:17 vaguely speaks to the above question. Some info on Sadducees, I found interesting.

Mark 12:
18 Then come unto him the Sadducees, which say there is no resurrection; and they asked him, saying,

19 Master, Moses wrote unto us, If a man's brother die, and leave his wife behind him, and leave no children, that his brother should take his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother.

20 Now there were seven brethren: and the first took a wife, and dying left no seed.

21 And the second took her, and died, neither left he any seed: and the third likewise.

22 And the seven had her, and left no seed: last of all the woman died also.

23 In the resurrection therefore, when they shall rise, whose wife shall she be of them? for the seven had her to wife.

24 And Jesus answering said unto them, Do ye not therefore err, because ye know not the scriptures, neither the power of God?

25 For when they shall rise from the dead, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage; but are as the angels which are in heaven.

26 And as touching the dead, that they rise: have ye not read in the book of Moses, how in the bush God spake unto him, saying, I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob?

27 He is not the God of the dead, but the God of the living: ye therefore do greatly err.

Acts 5:17 Then the high priest rose up, and all they that were with him, (which is the sect of the Sadducees,) and were filled with indignation,

When searching Sadducees I found 14 verses, see below. Above, I high lighted the two that stood out most to me
Matt 3:7 But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?

Matt 6:1 The Pharisees also with the Sadducees came, and tempting desired him that he would shew them a sign from heaven.

Matt 16:6 Then Jesus said unto them, Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees.

Matt 16:11 How is it that ye do not understand that I spake it not to you concerning bread, that ye should beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees?

Matt 16:12 Then understood they how that he bade them not beware of the leaven of bread, but of the doctrine of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees.

Matt 22:23 The same day came to him the Sadducees, which say that there is no resurrection, and asked him,

Matt 22:34 But when the Pharisees had heard that he had put the Sadducees to silence, they were gathered together.

Mark 12:18 Then come unto him the Sadducees, which say there is no resurrection; and they asked him, saying,

Luke 20:27 Then came to him certain of the Sadducees, which deny that there is any resurrection; and they asked him,

Acts 4:1 And as they spake unto the people, the priests, and the captain of the temple, and the Sadducees, came upon them,

Acts 5:17 Then the high priest rose up, and all they that were with him, (which is the sect of the Sadducees,) and were filled with indignation,

Acts 23:6 But when Paul perceived that the one part were Sadducees, and the other Pharisees, he cried out in the council, Men and brethren, I am a Pharisee, the son of a Pharisee: of the hope and resurrection of the dead I am called in question.

Acts 23:7 And when he had so said, there arose a dissension between the Pharisees and the Sadducees: and the multitude was divided.

Acts 23:8 For the Sadducees say that there is no resurrection, neither angel, nor spirit: but the Pharisees confess both.

Albert Barnes Commentary on Matt 2:4

The chief priests - By the chief priests here are meant not only the high priest and his deputy, but. also the heads or chiefs of the 24 classes into which David had divided the Twenty-Four Aaronic Priestly Courses, 1 Chronicles 23:6; 24; 2 Chronicles 8:14; Ezra 8:24.

Scribes - By the scribes, in the New Testament, are meant learned men; men skilled in the law, or the lawyers of the nation. They kept the records of the Courts of justice, the registers of the synagogues, wrote articles of contract and sale, bills of divorce, etc.

They were also called lawyers, Matthew 22:35, and doctor‘s of the law, Luke 5:17.

They were called scribes. from the fact of their writing the public records. """"""They were not, however, a religious sect, but might be either Pharisees or Sadducees"""""".

By the chief priests and scribes here mentioned is denoted the Sanhedrin or great council of the nation. This was composed of 72 men, who had the charge of the civil and religious affairs of the Jews. On this occasion Herod, in alarm, called them together, professedly to make inquiry respecting the birth of the Messiah.

No, they were a minority in their day and the Pharisee's not only out numbered them they outstood their ideology. After the destruction of Israel when Jews reformed Judaism from Yavneh they held to the teaching of the Pharisees. The Sadducees faded into obscurity. In short, they faded away after Jesus and Judaism became reformed by the Pharisees at Yavneh, which turned into rabbinical Judaism.

Socially, the Sadducees were more elitist and aristocratic than the Pharisees. Sadducees tended to be wealthy and to hold more powerful positions. The chief priests and high priest were Sadducees, and they held the majority of seats in the Sanhedrin. The Pharisees were more representative of the common working people and had the respect of the masses. The Sadducees’ focus of power was the temple in Jerusalem; the Pharisees controlled the synagogues. The Sadducees were friendlier with Rome and more accommodating to the Roman laws than the Pharisees were. The Pharisees often resisted Hellenization, but the Sadducees welcomed it.

Jesus had more run-ins with the Pharisees than with the Sadducees, probably because of the former’s giving preeminence to oral tradition.

Was the Sanhedrin like the Jewish govt of the time. If there were 72 of them thats kind of like members of parliament. Was it divided into different parties. How did it work?

It seems there were 'chief priests' or 'high priests'and a few were named like annas and Caphais.
If the pharisees instituted rabbinical judaism why is it theres no more Pharisees today or do they just go by a different name. What does the name Pharisee and Saducee mean.

Nicodemus, Saul, and Gamaliel were some named Pharisees in the bible.

The Pharisees transitioned into Rabbinical Judaism. This occurred after the time of Jesus in a town called Yavneh. Political parties ebb and wane and transform themselves.

Like the American Federalist party and the Democratic-Republican party, both transformed. One faded away (federalist) and the other split into our two parties today. The Pharisees main focus was the temple, the Saducees not so much. Which is why the Saducees were more partial to Rome. Once the temple was destroyed and the land made desolate the Pharisees regrouped in Yavneh and transformed Pharisaic Judaism into Rabbinical Judaism.

A Pharisee means one who is 'set apart' or separated, and Sadducee comes from the word zadik, or righteous person.
