I have a few questions which may seem silly and straightforward, not requiring a thread be made to ask them.

1) Did Jesus die on the cross, and did it happen before He was pierced by the spear?

2) Did Jesus rise from the dead on the third day? (not necessarily three days later)

3) Did Jesus pay for all the sins of mankind on the cross, or was His flogging a part of His payment too (along with anything else He would have endured)?

Or maybe a better question is, what constituted His payment for the sins of all mankind?

Yes, When he was peirced, It proved he was dead. (Water)

2) Did Jesus rise from the dead on the third day? (not necessarily three days later)
Yes, according to scripture and eyewitness accounts.

3) Did Jesus pay for all the sins of mankind on the cross, or was His flogging a part of His payment too (along with anything else He would have endured)?
1. John said he took the sins of the world (the lamb of God
2. Jesus said the offer of salvation was to the whole world (john 3: 16)
3. The atoning sacrifice on the day of atonement showed that all sins prior to that sacrifice was to be redeemed. Jesus made the one sacrifice whihc paid for all.

His spiritual death, Right before he died physically, He said “it is finished” (in the greek, the term was a judical term which meant “pain in full” which means the penalty of sin was paid BEFORE he died physically.

Adam was told he would day the day he ate, But he did not physically die until over 900 years later. What did occure was his spiritual death, That was the penalty of sin, Physical death was just a result of sin.

PS no question is silly

1. The most important thing is that He died on the cross as was prophesied.
Spearing him is written not to inform you the method of His death but it confirms that He died because of the description of water separated from blood that oozed from the spear wound.

2. Jesus spiritually rose from the dead immediately after dying but again for confirmation purposes that the naked eye might believe, He rose physically after three days and three nights just as it was prophesied.

3. Jesus paid for the sins of mankind twofold- The spiritual sin whose payment is eternal death by dying and resurrecting thereby conquering death but also the fleshly punishment He endured for our fleshly manifestation of sin which could lead us to sickness and other forms of fleshly pain.

1. "So the soldiers came, and broke the legs of the first man and of the other who was crucified with Him; but coming to Jesus, when they saw that He was already dead, they did not break His legs. But one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out. " John 19:32-34.
2. He rose three day later from the time he was arrested.
3. "Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed." 1 Peter 2:24. Peter quotes this from Isaiah 53:5, "But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed."

Read the gospel accounts, there are four of them and they outline the crcucifixtion in detail.
Jesus crucifixtion happened over Passover which was significant because at that time all the Jewish people celebrated this feast remembering their exodus from egypt, where they eat unleavened bread and each household needs to roast a lamb. The blood of the lamb was placed over the doorposts so that they wouldnt die of the plague God has sent to the egyptians (he sent them 10 plagues) the angel of death would 'passover' their homes and they would survive. The unleavened bread is eaten because they were to leave egypt the next day and not have time to wait for the bread to rise.

Jesus said to eat and drink to remember him, the bread broken for his body and the wine his blood poiured out for us. JEsus is the lamb of God, which means he was the final sacrifice and its by his blood we are saved. The blood was placed on the mercy seat which is payment for our sins. In the tabernacle there was a mercy seat that the priests had to place the blood of a lamb, bull or goat once a year to atone for everyones sins. They had to do this every year and God would forgive them, but Jesus blood paid for all mankind forever.

If you read Hebrews this explains it.

Hope this helps answer your question if you study the Bible it will become clear.

I think the entire process of the crucifixion from the method, the mocking, the
humiliation, whipping, to the way it was carried out and ultimately death and the resurrection.
All formed part of the penalty and substitution for our selves.

Isaiah 53:5 NKJV
[5] But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities;
The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.

Isaiah 53:7 NKJV
[7] He was oppressed and He was afflicted, Yet He opened not His mouth;
He was led as a lamb to the slaughter, And as a sheep before its shearers is silent,
So He opened not His mouth.

1 Peter 2:24 NKJV
[24] who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having
died to sins, might live for righteousness-by whose stripes you were healed.

1 Corinthians 5:7 NKJV
[7] Therefore purge out the old leaven, that you may be a new lump, since you
truly are unleavened. For indeed Christ, our Passover, was sacrificed for us.

Death was the finished product - Jesus cried out it is finished.
But everything else that happen also had its place. Jesus gave Himself
up to be physically, mentally and physiological tortured. He turned
himself over to the powers of darkness and hell to win our salvation.
Both during His life and during the sacrifice.

Why? Well for this

Hebrews 4:15-16 NKJV
[15] For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses,
but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. [16] Let us therefore come
boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

1. Yes on the cross and before the spear.
2. Yes
3. It was His death that was required for payment of our sins.

Yes to all questions. And it was three days later also called "the third day".

If you do not believe in divine healing being part of the atonement of Christ, the flogging is part of the same payment for sins.

If you do, then the flogging is meant for that and is separated from the blood. The blood shed is meant for the forgiveness of sins, the stripe is for your healing

Yes, according to scripture and eyewitness accounts.

Heb 9:15 "And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance."

The new covenant does not come with a curse of death, but rather it comes with the promise of transformation by having the Lord's law and commandments written upon the faithful's hearts and minds. The blood of the new covenant not only purchases our redemption and forgiveness, but it can also purge our consciences from dead works to serve the living God. (Heb 9:14)

Or maybe a better question is, what constituted His payment for the sins of all mankind?

Jesus being God is an infinite being. When he paid our debt-in-full by the greatest miracle in all of eternity, when he had our sins put upon himself and took our curse upon himself and was cut off from the Father by our sin; he suffered infinitely. Jesus suffered infinitely whether it was for one person or for all of the faithful or for the sins of the whole world; it all equaled the same to him. So one could say that Jesus suffered more for each one of us than all the people in hell will ever suffer put together. So lets say that man being finite cannot suffer infinitely so he has to suffer for infinity to pay the infinite requirement to atone for breaking God's law.

LeeLoving,

I love your question #3! And I hope you'll take it to God in prayer because the answer may be more involved than what gets posted. (I'm going to start praying about it, too.)

Answers on here are interesting and often enlightening, but ultimately God would like to be the answerer to your questions, and he'd really like you to willingly commune with him. He will really open up the details to you if you remain open-hearted.

It really is worth the effort figuring out how prayer works. Remember, he promises "Ask, and ye shall receive" but he doesn't say WHEN you will receive. Please don't retract your prayer before he answers you. It will be worth the wait (even if years). And ask in Jesus name. :) I wish you well.

Love in Jesus,
Kelby

concerning question 4, the flogging was also part of the fulfillment of the prophecy David gave us in Psalm 22(see verse 17).

I've also heard that the only silly questions are those not asked.

Yes Jesus died on the cross before the soilder pierced His body with a spear..

Yes Jesus spend 3 nights and 3 days in the tomb and was raised from the dead.

Jesus paid for the sins of all people who will believe Him and trust that his death on the cross paid for their sins.. The death of Jesus paid the price so all the things that caused the death of Jesus where part of that price..
