What are the essential beliefs needed for salvation?
Belief that:

a) You are a sinner that cannot save yourself. You must repent (change your mind) that you can earn your salvation in any way.

b) Jesus paid your sin-debt in full via his death, burial and resurrection.

c) Through the shed blood of Jesus alone you receive salvation by faith as a gift.

Believe Jesus ( His Teachings )
Trust that the Atonement of Jesus ( His sacraficial death on the cross ) pays the penalty for the sins that you do in your life time..

Belief and Trust are the two critical things one must have..

If it is true, and I believe that it is, that Jesus paid the penalty for all of the sins of those he died for, would it not be a fact that those sins are washed as white as snow, and God looks upon you as Holy and without blame, whether you trusted that or not?

No..

One must trust in the Atonement to be covered by the Atonement.. That is linked with believing Jesus.. We trust because we believe Jesus..

What about mentally challenged people who are incapable of grasping the abstract theology of the Gospel?
What about the majority of humanity who have never even heard the Gospel (see Romans 2:10, 14)?

Ah! Good! Someone finally asks the real question. What the real gospel is about: for the rest of the world, that are not the called of God right now. That is the message of the Kingdom of God and that Christ is the hope of the unbelievers. The message presented by most is that they are tormented in flames forever. The God of love must be really sadistic and cruel. o_O

What are the essential beliefs needed for salvation?
Have faith in Christ, and that is it, then it is party time like a big dog, for we can no more be in trouble for our sins, like we could be in trouble for our sins in the world, but can fornicate, and steal, and drink alcohol, and smoke cigarettes, and do drugs, love the world, and enjoy the world like the world enjoys it, with the fleshy pleasures, and the heaping of money, and material things in great abundance, and calling people idiots, and dummies, for not wanting to listen to the truth of the Gospel, and snubbing our noses at them in arrogance for we are saved, and better than their pathetic selves.

Yes it is the good life living for the Lord, for we get the best of both worlds, to enjoy this world like the sinners, and have eternal life to boot.

That is strange that the world is in trouble for their sins, and some believe they cannot abstain from sins, and sin daily, and sin does not affect their relationship with God, but they are not in trouble.

That is what also is strange about those that say they cannot abstain from sin, that there are people that claim Jesus as Lord and Savior, but if they are homosexual they go against them.

But why do they go against them if they cannot abstain from sins, for they testify that they cannot abstain from sins, and then go against people for their sins who claim Jesus as Lord and Savior.

That means who cares if we post rudely, and belittle people on this website, we cannot abstain from sins, so why do they say something about it if we cannot abstain from sins.

If they cannot abstain from sins, and sin does not affect their relationship with God, then God does not care if they sin for they cannot stop it, so why do they go against them for their sins if they say they cannot abstain from sins.

Mat 7:3 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?
Mat 7:4 Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye?
Mat 7:5 Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.

People that say they cannot abstain from sins, and sin daily, have no right to tell anybody that they have to behave right for then they would be a hypocrite for not doing right themselves, but they will always have a beam in their eye for they say they cannot abstain from sins.

1. Believe in a higher power.

2. Believe it is the God of Israel, for not all will know that when they first believe in a higher power, and creation testifies there is a higher power, and it is evolution that is stirring up many people to not believe in a higher power, and the cause of why the world will rebel against God in the future.

3. Believe the word of God.

4. Believe in Christ, and have faith in Christ.

5. Repent of your sins, and turn away from sins.

6. Be water baptized in the name of Jesus, for Jesus is the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, and Jesus said we must be born of water, and the Spirit, and if we are baptized with Christ unto death, we shall rise to newness of life like Him, and baptism does now save us, not the washing away of the filth of the flesh, but a good conscience towards God, what Peter preached in Acts 2:38, for we have to identify with the man Christ Jesus, for He died, was buried, and resurrected, and we die out to sin, are buried, and receive the Holy Spirit.

7. Do not deny the Spirit by holding unto sins, but hate sins, and do not want sins, and receive the Spirit, and some people have a form of godliness, but deny the power thereof, ever learning but never able to come to the knowledge of the truth, and points out their sins.

The Bible says there will be many people claiming Christ that are hypocrites at the end time.

All sin can be forgiven, but admit you wanted to enjoy the sin, but it does affect your relationship with God, instead of lying and say that you are alright with God when you sin, for if they cannot abstain from sin then they always have sin in their life.

For what excuse is there, for when they sin they enjoy the sin, for if they did not enjoy the sin they would not do it, so anything they enjoy they do it on purpose, so how can they do the sin on purpose, and then say they cannot abstain from sin.

Was it an accident they sinned, and could not help it.

I am sorry honey, but I fornicated with the neighbor woman for 3 hours, but you know dear we cannot abstain from sins, as if it was an accident and they could not stop themselves, when it is the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, so they could of chose the good.

Only people that accept the truth of God's word, the Old Testament saints whose blood was covered by animals, and looked forward to the Savior to come, and the New Testament saints can be with God, and Jesus, but that is right now.

Which many more will be saved, for God is a fair God, and the world will be judged by Jesus, and if judged they have a chance at salvation whether they heard the word of God, and about Jesus, or not.

Creation testifies there is a higher power, and of His attributes, which one of them is love, for He provided food, and the means to make clothing, and shelter, so the world is without excuse, and testifies of the 2 greatest laws love God, and love people, which is what a saint abides by the 2 greatest laws.

And their conscience bears witness of what is good and evil, and love works no ill towards their neighbor, therefore love is the fulfilling of the law, and if one has fulfilled the law then they are right with God.

Only the saints can be with God, and Jesus now, and after the millennial reign then the dead will resurrect, and be judged, and some of them can make it to be with God.

If they believed in a higher power, and that He is love, and loves people, and works no ill towards people, which an example is the 6 commandments that have to do with not offending people, and not to do anything else that offends people, and asks God for forgiveness if anything is amiss, for they do not have His word, and have not heard a voice, or image of Him, then they should be saved, and can be with God, and Jesus.

Concerning anybody that is mentally handicapped, God knows to the extent that they are that way, and they are only responsible for what they can grasp, and understand, and if they realize their intentions are bad if they do bad, but mentally handicapped people usually do not commit sins like the world, and to the same extent.

The angels always behold the face of the Father for the little ones, for they do not grasp what is wrong and right yet, so the same would go for people whatever age that are mentally handicapped similar.

You can leave that safely in God's hands. And since the Gospel is NOT abstract theology, perhaps you should go back and read the Gospels and get a proper understanding.

"Then they inquired, “What must we do to perform the works of God?”

Jesus replied, “The work of God is this: to believe in the One He has sent.

"If you declare with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved."

At that time, some of those present told Jesus about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mixed with their sacrifices. To this He replied, “Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans, because they suffered this fate? No, I tell you. But unless you repent, you too will all perish. Or those eighteen who were killed when the tower of Siloam collapsed on them: Do you think that they were more sinful than all the others living in Jerusalem? No, I tell you. But unless you repent, you too will all perish.” - Luke 13:1-5

Nehemiah6: "You can leave that safely in God's hands. And since the Gospel is NOT abstract theology, perhaps you should go back and read the Gospels and get a proper understanding."

Thank you:D, but unlike you, I can read the Gospels in the original Greek and even understand the nuances of the underlying Aramaic.
And yes, the basic premise of vicarious atonement is the ultimate in theological abstraction. For example, you have no clue about how to answer this underlying question: How can anyone's death, even the death of God's Son, possibly atone for my sin? How does it make sense to believe that another man can take responsibility for my guilt? You and I accept by faith that Jesus accomplished precisely that, but don't tell me it is not a theological abstraction!

MattfhrJesus: "Only people that accept the truth of God's word, the Old Testament saints whose blood was covered by animals, and looked forward to the Savior to come, and the New Testament saints can be with God, and Jesus, but that is right now."

The "Old Testament saints" had no clue that Jesus would suffer an atoning death on the cross for us! The Suffering Servant Song of Isaiah 53 was not even applied to the anticipated Messiah until Jesus.

That thief on the cross might not have been the sharpest knife in the drawer either, but He made it in. It's not about a long series of incantations or gesticulations, it's your attitude about Jesus.

And what is your evidence for assuming that this thief understood the basics of the Gospel?

What makes you think I assumed anything? You seem to be the one making all the assumptions.

The answer is very simple. Let's assume you have murdered someone and the judge before whom you are standing has applied the death penalty to you. Along comes your brother and approaches the judge. He tells the judge that you are his brother, and because he loves you very much, he will take your place so that you can go free. And the judge agrees because justice has been served. So you walk away a free man but your brother pays the penalty for your crime. Now, is that a theological abstraction?
