How does the atonement free individuals from shame for their sins and heal them in their humanity? Consequently, what might a healthy remorse look like as people seek to turn away from sin and continuously become more Christ-like?

Hebrews 12:2 looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.

Romans 12:2
And be not conformed to this world: but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

I'd add this scripture to be considered when pondering this post.....

2 Chronicles 7:14
If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

Well look at some examples in the Bible like saul who became Paul in the book of acts...before he was a christian he persecuted believers and was a self righteous Pharisee but after his encounter with Jesus he was nothing but kind to them and then went and told more and even welcomed gentiles to be believers. That was a complete turnaround. He was also willing to endure suffering and humiliation to spread the gospel, he was beaten up, put in prison, had to deal with false accusers, all the stuff that he was doing to to others before he came to the Lord.
