When I was in college in the mid-90s, I had a few professors that really encouraged full expression and exploration of one's belief system. I wrote a paper for a class called Intellectual Heritage, and though I can't recall all the specific points I was making, the focus was comparing Freud, Christianity, and Communism. I always hate saying this because it sounds hokey, but when I was writing the Christian portion of the paper, I felt inspired to write this poem. I say inspired because while I have always enjoyed writing from time to time, poetry is definitely not my thing. Aside from the occasional cheesy romantic poem for a girlfriend, that is. It's about how our awareness of Satan's presence is key in overcoming temptation. Hope you like it, and thanks for reading.
Satan's Demise
"Sin is a demon lurking...but you may be its master" - Genesis 4:7
Earth's resident demon, confined not by the night
His purpose neither thrill, nor startle, nor fright
He stealthily deceives, distorting your sight
Turning hope to despair and making wrong appear right
But it ends not there....
Vigilance is victory! I appeal to you all
To open your eyes and wake from your fall!
Tear down his curtain and invisible wall
A demon exposed is no demon at all!
