A Hillsong worship leader says he's no longer a Christian. My sister shared this link. I'm not sure who the writer is but he nailed it IMO. Give it a read and let me know if you agree.

https://cogentchristianity.com/2019...3k0QCbHoKXK1pKpHeT_5AhuhhEh9BJ-y5r8RTWkKGac9w

apparently written by John Cooper of 'skillet'

saw them on a clip some time back

I had to push my bottom jaw up to meet the top

check them out on youtube

while the article reads a certain way, I can't match their antics with worship

I'm liking so called Christian music less and less...that includes pretty much all of it

Wow.

Excellent article.

The man is a deep thinker and a very good communicator.

I don't know anything about his group.
But the article is spot on.

(excerpt)

“Ok I’m saying it. Because it’s too important not to. What is happening in Christianity? More and more of our outspoken leaders or influencers who were once “faces” of the faith are falling away. And at the same time they are being very vocal and bold about it. Shockingly they still want to influence others (for what purpose?)as they announce that they are leaving the faith. I’ll state my conclusion, then I’ll state some rebuttals to statements I’ve read by some of them. Firstly, I never judge people outside of my faith. Even if they hate religion or Christianity. That is not my place and I have many friends who disagree with my religion and that is 100% fine with me. However, when it comes to people within my faith, there must be a measure of loyalty and friendship and accountability to each other and the Word of God.

Matthew, Chapter 24:

8 All these are the beginning of sorrows.

9 Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake.

10 And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another.

11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.

12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.

13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.

(just saying)

Know zip about the group or the one that wrote the article. Guess I should have checked that first. Just nailed the truth in the article.

Skillet is quite good Hillsong on the other hand has falling out of my line of liking months ago. Light on theology heavy on the feelings with no questions willing to be asked. Watched a video on them by some gentlemen a few months ago I'm usually weary about this kind of ripping apart other Christian's on youtube as its usually unfounded and unwarranted but the proof was rather undeniable. It's your typical mega church nonsense they just got into music.

I myself like many songs by both Skillet and Hillsong. I usually do a morning jog to 'WAKE' by Hillsong. Peace out:)

I am just wondering who is left dangling because of this decision on the part of the singer/songwriter who has been part of the team since he was 16

not to mention others who have been in the limelight are now using said light, to say they are no longer Christians

what does that do, exactly, to those who follow these people and think they are such wonderful examples?

how does that feel to now read that hey ho...leaving for other pursuits and Christianity does not suit me anymore

“Thirdly, there is a common thread running through these leaders/influencers that basically says that “no one else is talking about the REAL stuff.” This is just flatly false. I just read today in a renown worship leader’s statement, “How could a God of love send people to hell? No one talks about it.” As if he is the first person to ask this? Brother, you are not that unique. The church has wrestled with this for 1500 years. Literally. Everybody talks about it. Children talk about it in Sunday school. There’s like a billion books written on the topic. Just because you don’t get the answer you want doesn’t mean that we are unwilling to wrestle with it. We wrestle with scripture until we are transformed by the renewing of our minds."

I made this same point on a similar thread about this guy...

Ive literally asked every question (and still do somethings) on every topic he said "No one talks about" within the first year of being Christian. I find it incredibly odd that someone whos been in it for 20 years never addressed there concern. As you said there are countless books and websites for these questions. More than enough good answers.

I think many people do not understand what might be happening...the start of it (not referring to anyone in the thread here...just speaking generally)

do you see the 'Christian' concerts packed with thousands?

when the adoration involves people who 'loose their faith' and brag about it, what kind of effect is going to ripple throughout those who get their theology from music?

they will not 'feel' like God is there after all perhaps?

I am not surprised at all to hear this happened. I suspected Hillsong was fake years ago when I accidentally ran into their event on YouTube, they all came out onto the stage with a lot of glitz and idol vibe, it felt like watching one of those idol shows where people are there to display their talents and have people swoon over them, not like a worship session. It's really not that hard to spot that "mememe it's all about me" vibe! It's saddening and maddening on the same level as those teleevangelists when you see people follow them and shower conmen with money...

That was a well written article... putting emotion at center stage, being whipped into a frenzy by repetitious lyrics that go on and on, supposedly getting "into the spirit".... I've always seen that as false "worship". It's not worship at all, it's simply emotional manipulation.

If our faith is not based on what we have heard from Jesus, then there is no bedrock to our faith.

Feel good glitter churches like Hillsong are more for entertainment and humanistic values push , more so than that of actual teaching and leading unto Christianity.

Sometimes it appears as if it is a set up with the Christian leaders going against the grain, and some leaving, for it is the end time, and the Bible says many will depart from the faith, and follow the new age movement interpretation of the Bible based on evolution, and people can still evolve, and the time will come they will not endure the truth of the Bible but want to hear it according to the new age movement.

But if it is a worldly church then it is not rooted in the Spirit so many might leave.

There have been many people that claimed Christianity and have not been saved from the start because of their lack of understanding repentance, for they did not really give up their sins, nor did they want to but repented of their past sins, and then repented as they went along sinning, or sinning and not repenting thinking they are covered.

2Ti 3:4 lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
2Ti 3:5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
2Ti 3:6 For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,
2Ti 3:7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

Some have never been saved from the start for they did not walk through the door of truth, but came short of that and never received the Spirit so worldliness will continue with them, and doubt.

And it is terrible today with the worldliness among many that claim Christ, and hypocrisy, and many will end up going back to the world, and following the world as they go to the New Age Christ's kingdom.

The tragic truth.....we have an entire book of inspired, "Christian" music in the bible and very few put it to music and sing it in a way of worship.

Most so called Christian music is a joke and is so vague it could be identified as worldly, mushy, love songs.......

The article sets forth a good grasp of what is happening and also shows he knows some truth for sure!
